Here is a lofty idea... se what I did there, XD

Not sure if this was mentioned before but here goes...

So... someone was very creative on Siren and made a Loft. i'm sure plenty of people on other servers did similar things, but I thought it was pretty cool. I'll see if I can get a screenshot, but for those on Siren it should be Ward 13 Plot 8/38; don't remember if its a subdivision or not. The main issue with what they did though was it used A LOT of housing items to achieve. great effect but at the cost of a fully furnished house.

Anyways, this got a lot of us thinking maybe SE can add actual housing items to make a loft. Wall hanging flooring, pillars, and stairways; they could even make ones for outside too, but that might cause issue compared to inside.

So what does everyone think, does this sound like a cool idea? It would basically double your space in certain areas, XD

While I really love what she did here. I think it's definitely worth noting to people that she used all 200 slots in her small house to create this look on just her top floor. (She has a bathroom in the stairwell that blocks the use of the stairs and the basement.) That definitely is not meant to take away from how amazing this is or how you could do something similar and just not have so much here so that you could have the loft plus stuff in the basement.

It would never pass inspection either....needs rails.

That's so cute! What did you use for the loft flooring? I made mine with the zabuton cushions, I've heard about the box shelves, but that looks like one of the stages? I wasn't aware those could be floated!

It's the Troupe Stage, which is what was used in the screenshot Settiesama posted. They are much more difficult to float, but you do end up using a lot less item slots. These can only be placed above permanent house fixtures.

It's a very hard to accomplish glitch, it involves placing items from storage in your house. It was much easier before they patched the UI glitch in 4.2. Basically you have to "place" the stage on the top of a window, door, or railing. You need to be in first person. I'll try to find a link to the post and edit this with that unless someone else posts it before I find it.

Is it still worth it though? Doesn't it only do about half of the item's size so you essentially have less to work with than it did in the screenshots posted by the owner of https://imgur.com/a/u7kXp ? Or am I looking too critically at it? For that matter, how do you clip beds and stuff onto it /now/? Don't you still have to clip it through the wall or is there something there that I'm missing? How do you clip a backdrop to it that's separate from the lower "floor"? I saw that some suggested clipping blank partitions up to those locations to do a separate backdrop, but we kind of come to the same issue, do we not..?

Alice actually used the same glitch there, but used multiple stages to make the loft quite large. (she also did it when it was a lot easier to do) The bed and wardrobe appears to have been placed with the same glitch; the rest of the items are tabletop. Some pieces of furniture (like partitions) don't divide as severely as the stages do, the stage is just really large. The glitch works by the placement of the center marking above the window; for the stage, it causes it to clip out, but for something small the effect is not noticeable.

We never had full access to items like the stages with this glitch before, it's more or less the exact same functionally.

are we still as free to place things atop the stage? or... are we limited to placing them above the point where the stage was placed in?

Only tabletop items can go on the stage since it's technically considered a table. So yes you are limited to glitching.

But there's some itens that you can improvise to look like something that they arent if you are creative enough. Like, you can use shelfs to make a "table", cushions to use as 'chair'. Though it will not be a 'new floor', you can still do a lot with that, just need some creativity!

Everything in my loft is a tabletop item, and you should still be able to do everything in Alice's loft. The bed, I think, is a Riviera Canopy Bed? glitched into the same place the loft is. But because it sits a bit higher, it clips through the floor. So, all of these are still doable :)

I don't get the how, though... you still end up losing half the bed in this way.

I'd like to clarify a little thing with this part: If you try to glitch a bed normally it will not even pop up through the stage. The reason my bed managed to peek through the stage is because it's resting on top of a doorway. There is an invisible FC door under where I glitched the bed and you can use that as a point to do the new loft glitch on.

Yes, that's the unfortunate nature of the loft glitch. Resting the center point of the furniture on top of a window's small flat surface will cause it to place there. But in the process the other half of the furniture sunk into the wall will be lost.

The canopy bed is double-wide, so it looks like a normal single bed with the glitch :)

The loft glitch can actually work in other places other than windows, ledges, and doorways. I put mine in a back corner where there is no initial window.

At the moment I can't even put it above windows half the time so I was wondering if the pillars in the house are blocking my ability to mount :( How did you get this up and was it after they patched the original glitch in 4.2?

From what I've done the pillars don't cause any problems, but certain window styles are a lot easier. I was helping someone with a Shiro castle wall last night and couldn't get it up after an hour. They swapped to the Merchant's walls (the wall I was using when I found it out) and I got it on the first try. I've been able to do it on Merchant, Glade, and Mist windows. I've heard it works for Goblet.

I have no idea why the Shiro ones were giving me trouble so maybe those just don't work? idk

Ooooooo... so I may have to switch out and then craft new walls -.- If I switch back to Shiro after mounting, will I lose the loft that's been placed though? I've had about 5 people through the house trying to get this sorted and it's just a no-go, hahahaha *sadface*

You won't! I had them switch back to Shiro after to check and it stuck. The Merchant's walls are generally really cheap on the MB too (like a few thousand gil lol).

This is also how people get things onto the porches of some houses.

Yes! It will appear in your inventory after you confirm the change. You can test it yourself on the interior fixtures to see what it looks like, it is the same way.

I was able to get it to work on my Shiro house without swapping out windows. It took a little work because I hadn't done it before, all I did was follow Alice's video so nothing special in the way instructions for it. I think its all camera angles, which can be a pita sometimes.

Yeah... the one you have in that SS is the one I got up fairly easily. That one and the matching at the other end. It was the long wall that was super struggle and after having a looooot of people come through trying, I switched to merchant walls and had the other two up in minutes. It was crazy how different the difficulty level was >.<

The Shiro castle windows are different from the normal Shiro windows, which is the one I was having trouble with. They have a really wide ledge so I thought it would be easy but nope.

I was able to make it work in the Shiro castle walls (took forever!) but I couldn't ever get it on the non-windows walls like someone said they could. Still, I consider it a success, and being able to do this instead of using 50 zabutons means we could have a downstairs garden, yay!
