FFXIV Population Grows

Not sure how this will be received here because forums are usually the worst place to post positive info, but SE just reported that the population for this game is growing.

I just have to say, from personal experience, that I just re-subbed to the game a few days ago and am once again having a blast. I don't think I'll cancel again. In fact, I cancelled my WoW account to come back here after the Allied Race debacle.

I was only a level 41 BLM when I took a break and am now 47. Looking forward to starting HW content! I'm certainly taking my sweet time to max level. :D

Edit: For those that don't want to actually drill down through a financial report, here's an article about the numbers.

I gotta say even on the forums I've noticed a lot of new people. Good to hear. I wonder how many are people coming back and how many are actual newbies.

May I, uh... not be surprised? They are comparing the period in which they released an expansion to one where an expansion has already run its course for a year or more. I'd be looking at it more positively if this was the end of 2018 report and the periods were actually comparable.

I have been seeing a LOT of new players running around in my server. I be like “Aaaawww, look at all the new sprouts!” X3 I remember when I was a freshman :’)

It’s good to hear that the game has been getting a lot of recognition. Despite the harsh criticism that this game receives, it’s still doing good.

I have actually seen larger groups of people in Limsa these days... doing absolutely nothing. Some of the other hubs are pretty much empty (Idylshire, Revenants Toll). But I only log in a couple of times a week and not for very long at this point in the downward spiral to indifference.

I can't say I've ever seen a farmer with a "proper" name, but I have seen advertisers with them. It's really as simple as using the random name generator, but I suppose a farm bot wouldn't care to bother with that. Imagine if they did though...

If they do have proper names, one way to determine if they're a bot is by how they respond to tells; if they don't respond, then that's a red flag right there.

One sure sign of a bot is that they'l have a normal name, but with a random letter at the end. Rodrickn Blackthorneb, for example.

But, I've seen an increase of sprouts as well, our FC is full of em and growing.

I think much of it is from the glowing reviews Stormblood got coupled with the multitudes of newbie friendly systems to help them rapidly progress.

In each case, I had a blast with XIV for awhile - usually months to a year. Also, I'd venture to say that most people on the forums do, actually, welcome positive information. Most people on the forums that I come across are incredibly passionate about FFXIV, and wish it nothing but success. Many do, however, worry about the long-term health of the game given SE's embarrassingly shoddy development practices. Speaking for myself, as an example, I'm not just ripping apart things like the Glamour Dresser for the hell of it; I'm also ripping it apart because I routinely encounter friends debating a return to FF, and when they ask if some of the game's problems have been resolved, I have to either lie or answer in the negative. That's frustrating to me personally, and it's worrisome for the game's long-term health.

Just my two cents, anyway.

This may be true but there are also normal players that may ignore tells too, so yeah raising a flag is probably all you'd get out of that as to fully ensure someone is a bot you'd need to use additional methods to verify it.

If they get spammed with tells, eventually the player that ignores tells will eventually give in and either tell that player to "#@$% OFF!!" or set their status to busy so they won't get the tells. From what I've seen, bots hardly ever set their status on busy.

I know right. I'm so glad to see more players and to have seen this positive thread! I'm a v1.0 /legacymark returner! And I'm soo happy to have returned. Even though it's been like 2 months now. XD newbies and returners the more the merrier!

Unless said player filters tells out of their current tab.

I'm also a returning 1.0'er and after taking an extended break during 3.3 for over a year I returned late last year and have a renewed appreciation for the game. It's nice to see the starting nations alive and well with new and returning players, I was actually surprised with how alive the game still was after reading a lot of negative opinions of SB online.

No game or expansion is perfect, but I've honestly read only positive things about SB. I tend to take everything on an MMO's official forums with a HUGE grain of salt because they are usually overwhelmingly negative, regardless of the game. At least in NA.

I guess it's kind of similar to real life, in a way. When you visit a city you see how wonderful it is. When you live in a city you see its problems.

I tried getting a few friends interested in the game recently, and sadly this was the factor the hated they most. Knowing how many story quests there are and how boring some of the starting ones can be, I completely understand though.

But instead of just being included with the price of purchase, you have to do a rep grind to unlock them. It's like something EA would do. Sound like they're giving people something to do in the time between the expansion release. 6+ months? It's not like after 12 years a faction rep grind is a shocking revelation.

Back when I played on Ultros, I turned off alert sound and moved tells to a spam tab. Used linkshell I made for private conversations.
