4.2 - the densest patch yet

There is -----too much----- in the patch. So what games are you all gonna miss out on while you struggle to complete content in servers servers bursting with players?

I mean, just look at what we've gotten in this patch. Two dungeons??? Insane! Literally double the amount of content. Maybe next patch we'll get three dungeons? I don't know because the patches are so unpredictable and you never know when they'll throw a crazy curve ball, I literally cannot predict what could be in 4.3... can you?

In my last thread I stated that I would post a positive thread if they put dailies involving snake waifus in the game. I am glad to report that the developers listened. Unfortunately due to budget constraints they must have been forced to scan a baby doll head into the game and slap it on a shrunken down adult Ananta. Then they shipped the update before they animated any facial expressions for it. Ssshe looks like a horrendousss abomination that I'd beat to death with a ssshovel without hessssitation, and tosss in the compossst heap with all the red belliesss that have been coming into my back yard this sssummer.

But since I like their music I'll give them a thumbs up.

Patches are rather predictable. I'd say densest patch was the one where we got titan/ifrit/garuda/ ex plus dungeons plus crystal tower.

I'm still waiting to see what content we get each patch that is "Brand new" and the reason we lost TWO dungeons now per patch. All I see is glamour, QOL, mounts etc. No actual new battle content (i dont include the dungeons, same ol 4 raids etc) Eureka isn't out so...

And technically speaking when they deprived us of one dungeon (In HW days) they said we'd get something new..and now we are missing two dungeons, so we should be getting two brand new content each patch.

And before anyone suggests the glamour closet thing and the saddle bag is brand new, etc..that is not replacement for dungeons and actual battle content..so, no lol.

Most of the boss fights are pretty great and fun, the dungeons are alright, the new PVP gear is great

Normal Raid drops and dungeon drops continue to be an awful joke and the glam toilet is like

Dense as in dunno how to balance Tanks yeah they be pretty dense.

To be honest, the tank balance patch notes pushed me away from this game for now, and i am playing D&D neverwinter for now.

You know next patch comes in 3 or 4 months ? They need ppl to do something lol

So far i've enjoyed it a lot.

- Mostly because of my childhood nostalgic for FF6 in Sigmascape.
- MSQ i havn't progressed very far
- Enjoyed Byakko (liked the sudle hint at FF11 with Tenzen in the story)
- New Expert dungeons are fun (But why can't we speedrun SE??? Sad caster here) And why wouldn't you include Skalla?
- New crafting <3

Now I wished you had released Eureka from the get go in this patch than have us wait another month*

* Most likely get postponed again

Supposedly they will show off Eureka next weekend on a LL. I really hope they show off gameplay and i'll bring popcorn. But frankly i htink they are scared to show it from Diadem fiasco (twice they fucked it up)

I feel like you people expect the developers to be machines dishing content in insanely short time while juggling concepts for fresh new things and likely already working on next expansion.

I loved Byakko a lot, yet to try the extreme version! Loving the story about it.
I enjoyed what MSQ had to offer, got me excited about what is next!
Hell's lid was fun, music and visuals! Yet to try Fractal.
Sigmascape is fun though I'm not a fan of the dissidia feel to it, it's still fun and nostalgic. Phantom train was <3
New glam system is disappointment but the old one is still working so... -shrug-
PvP is not my thing but the new gear seems lovely!
Yet to dive into the crafting!

I guess I'm not one of those players who runs out of things to do on week 1 of patch release.

You better go and get it out of your system now then, they'll be adding NMs as Fates in Eureka. Possibly more Odin style then the normal version, but Fates regardless.

I agree with this soooo much, she really looks wrong. Ananta in general are cool, but her? Meh.
On my end, I've ran all the way to get RDM to 67 to do the unlock quests (yes I have a 70, no I don't like wasting xp) and in the end I don't even like them. A bit because I dislike the area, a bit because I dislike the npcs, I dunno. I enjoy doing Kojin ones, so I had a lot of hope in these but..nope nope, unless I'm desperate for xp.

I'd guess Skalla is in 70 and not expert because it has low-ish requirement and the same item ilvl drops as the other 70 roulette dungeons. I think it's cool that the newest dungeons have their own roulette, separate from that whole group.

I am not either, i started doing stuff for the patch on friday, I generally do MSQ and other patch related stuff with my SO and she's a uni student aka don't have as much time to play as me.

It's the expectations we get. And I can't blame people, people who been playing this for 3-4 years and maxed out anything and yet love this game so much they just want more stuff to do. A relic would fixed this.

In a sense it also SE fault for providing us lot of stuff in 2.x (at least the way i want to remember it) but like you said, they using the same staff for both maintain current content and working on 5.0. XIV is obviously a big title for SE and brings in a lot of revenue but they won't hire more staff to work on current content and have the vets do next expansion?

Seems a bit odd to me but i'm novice in game dev so maybe i'm completely wrong but in my field of work we often take in temp people to handle short projects (IT dev) and rest of us seniors do the long term projects.

I imagine in 2.x they had to keep and increase the players at any cost, it was a matter of proving that the rebuilt game was and is profitable in order to secure a future. And I'm not saying the developers let breath out and got all, "ok we got the players and subs we can reduce quality now." but we did hear how 3.x nearly killed the the team with the amount of content they had to do, I'd think they deemed this course of action will burn out the team on the long run. Another thing is, as you've said it's been a game for 3-4 years now, new employees may need time to get a feel of the game. It's a vast MMO with lots of history. But yeah, I'm not arguing that old vets have nothing to do, I'm just tossing my two cents on the topic. :)

But even if there would be a learning period for new dev employed that might be good in the long run. We'll see if there be any improvements on that side with 5.0 when it get released in 2019.

Yes i can see that, the problem is we going to be stuck with 2 dungeons for 3+ months for Expert roulettes. 2 dungeons is really meh but having 3 in the roulette at least there is some difference.

I don't know how long you've been playing but we had same problem when 4.0 was released and most of us got sick of getting Ala Mhigo every day.

No. No. It went to weird marketing ads like Mrs Freshly or whatever in NA market.

I just log in to do dailies for tomes and beast tribe and then I play MHW. Nothing has really grasped my attention here for awhile now.

As a DRK I dont really know how to take this patch. But for me I guess I will be a filthy casual until 4.3

You referring to the pre 4.0 "stormblood has triple the budget" rumor that went around that was never verified as having been said by SE? I remember digging for the source of that "quote" myself and came up empty-handed.

This patch is actually not overly bad at all except for the so called "changes" on some jobs
I like the new raid and dungeons and the Beast Tribe thus far i enjoy as well.
That primal fight is pretty awesome.

Next patch is where we finally get Eureka is it not? And the oh so late should i bother Relic

QoL changes use up the same resources that would of made those extra dungeons. You might think Squadrons, Inventory increase, increasing Housing limit and Glamour Log don't use those resources, but they do.

They need active people looking for ways to manage in-game resources and make sure when content is added the servers can handle it.

I used to run Ampador Keep (with some rarer WP) every day multiple times a day, when there was no roulette and the only tomes were from the dungeon itself. So I know something about repetition. Personally I don't mind, I like getting the mechanics perfectly. And with all these roulettes now it's not just always the same dungeon, that roulette has 2 but still there's all the others as well. So from my point of view it's still a good diversity.

I completely agree with you.

There's not even that much QoL, either. As far as I can tell, server checks/delays are still very long, a 3 digit ping still hurts your dps and ability to dodge, macros are still unusable, the cross server linkshell feature isn't here yet, and you still can't send tells in instances.

But we have a chocobo saddle since we couldn't get actual expanded inventory so now there's yet ANOTHER menu/window to clutter the screen, and we got some clunky glamour dresser that doesn't even work well... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I assure you that I did not err when finalizing my review score. I took not only the amount of content in the patch but also its quality relative to previous patches. Although I do not think that the story is as interesting as Heavensward's it is at least presented with the same level of quality, and some of the MSQ battles are quite enjoyable as far as those go, with a lot more AI scripting for the events. Since the raids, primals and dungeon are all meeting a consistent level of quality I cannot fault the game on that front. However, given that the content roll is exactly the same as it was in Heavenward despite being promised more, I cannot give the patch a score above a 5/10 which by my metric denotes an average game. A couple highs here and there will never raise it above that score if I am doing the exact same things to advance my character that I was doing 4 years ago, no matter how well polished it is now.

Where did that extra point come from? Snake waifus.
