Additional housing slots per character

This isn't a troll post. I'm just bored. I hope there's a difference?

Anyways, the question. What do people feel if Square-Enix allowed player to purchase additional housing unlocks through the mog station.

For example, you can have 2 retainers, but if you want a third--you pay extra dollars per month.

(Assuming) Housing isn't severely limited. How would people feel about Square-Enix charging extra for extra housing unlocks per account?

For example, you get 1 house per server. But maybe you pay 5 bucks extra per month and you get an additional house slot per character/server.

That way people who want multiple houses per account can get one, and Square-Enix can't use the cop-out that it's too resource intensive, because they can funnel that money back into the servers. Isn't that kind of the philosophy behind extra retainers?

Here is my problem with this.

If you pay $5, you expect to be guaranteed a second house. That means the server has to offer that space (no matter how stretched its resource might be).

In this case, what happens to the other players who do not yet have their one free house because the free plots are all taken?

I believe this is similar to the Balmung population lock issue. You can not create a character there but a paid transfer was always allowed (for a long time).

That's why I stated (Assuming) that housing isn't severely limited anymore.

But perhaps, maybe if Square-Enix had more resources being pooled into their servers they could justify adding more houses. Not just for the first free one, but also to provide for anyone who would want one.

If SE has enough resources, I much rather they fix the entire system from ground up - meaning, instanced housing.

If you truly are bored, I suggest you go back to housing threads from 2017 July onwards about 4.1 Shirogane housing release. This proposal of "popping up unlimited wards" was one of the heavily discussed topics.

Main issue: stress on server, causing instability, yes you may be paying for it, but players will simply leave the house empty (like they already are), and I don't think a few bucks can cover server cost over long term.

You mentioned instanced housing. Would you by chance be in favor of Non-instanced FC housing wards, but instanced personal wards?

To be specific, I am in favour of non-instanced FC housing wards, and instanced personal houses.

This was given example by someone else (sorry I forgot who to credit to): basically, the ward remains a ward. A few houses (small/med/large) is chosen, so that these locations become "instanced personal" areas where upon entry, players enters an instanced housing perimeter. Much similar to apartment, but instead of a small block of space, you get a full on house and garden. May have a "dummy" ward background instead of black emptiness, of course.

Some suggested that the personal instanced housing become upgradable - more versatile depending on the individual's finance situations.
^They might do this for apartments in the future though, as mentioned in the LL announcing 4.2 late last year.

This way, you ensure that the ward is used to its full capacity while satisfying the housing needs of many without supply issues. :D

I would rather see something like a 10-15$ one time fee for an instanced house accessible by alts and shareable with friends. Like a mansion on a floating rock in the sea of clouds.

This idea was also mentioned back in 4.1 housing debate (sorry if you were the originator lol). Your suggestions, sir, sounds brilliant, but of course, again, needs SE to redesign housing from ground up. Some one suggested housing should be on clouds, and can you can even decide where to "park" the cloud, whether it be sea of clouds or atop Kugane.

Alt-sharing should definitely be added - however, this is mainly a measure to counter against gil-botters/sellers, since that means they can transfer immense amounts of gil between characters (even though they are already doing this via shell FCs). Interestingly I have yet to seen anyone to offer this as an explanation for why there is no alt-sharing on FFXIV (can't even add as friends).

I would be ok with a one-time fee, but since they don't do one-time fees with retainers I thought it was more logical to follow Square-Enix's example.

I'd have all 8 retainers if I could pay a one-time fee.

No wasn't me! I started in October with a friend. We chose FFXIV because of glamour and housing. Then came the disappointment. At this point I would sell your grandparents for a house! :( Apartments don't cut it as my GF and I like to share a home and deco it together. But that's all a bit off topic.

After reading Jack's post about retainers I suppose my answer is yeah I would shell out a few extra bucks.

I'm not into housing being paid for with cash at all. It would give the execs every reason to halt further housing opening up to subscribers. I'm all for getting rid of wards altogether and going instanced housing that's upgradable, because sticking personal or fc with wards is just leaving one side with a slim ability to upgrade/choose their desired location. Wards with this design are too limiting for an mmo.

Why would you want to reward SE with real money on a broken, ill thought out, fail housing system? Would sure be a pay2win for them.

Why draw the line at this and get upset and not at retainers costing extra money? You could almost argue that's pay to win, as having extra retainers means you can sell more items on the market board as well as having extra ventures. It's basically trading dollars in for perks.

Yes you certainly could and p2win should be illegal. I never get upset, I have a med house in the beds. Feel bad for people that have none though.

I think if they were to do this, and they insist on sticking to the awful ward system, it should be a combination.

You pay one time, something like $20 to unlock access to a house on another character (assuming one of your characters has a house already). Upon actually buying a house on that second character (since, you're still going to have to fight for it, you assume the risk), your sub fee goes up by $1 for as long as you keep that second personal house. This way, people that want an extra house can get it, while also funneling in more money to ideally help pay for more wards to open, or for ff14 to be able to fund a way to fix the system as a whole.

I would suggest SE should provide enough wards or instanced housing, problem solved.

If you think Square-Enix should provide enough houses for all of your alts then why can't I get 8 retainers on all of my characters for free?

I would most likely pay for it but consider SE claims its a limitation in the infrastructure i doubt we'll see it any time soon.

A valid question, that was already discussed in many other threads (my opinion: they should be free of charge). But I don't see the relevance for this topic.

I think that is a very bad idea.
Renting extra retainers is bad enough, no need to compound on that mistake.

As long as this game remains subscription-only there shouldn't be any actually useful things purchasable through the mogstation - only purely cosmetic items.

I don't disagree that they should fix the problem, but since they have just been doing one bandaid fix after another, it seems pretty hopeless. It doesn't hurt to look at all options, and I think this one isn't the worst. At the very least, it is something that has a direct impact. It sort of shows SE how much housing is valued, literally having people put their money where their mouth is. If someone wants a house that badly for their alt, they'll buy it, no different than buying a retainer, or a glamour item/character boost of the store.

I agree paying real money is a no go. There is a false equivalency when comparing to Retainers. Houses are active content where as Retainers are storage. SE's argument is storage costs too much so people who need extra should pay for it. Charging for a house would be more along the lines of saying if you want side quests like Hildibrand you have to pay an additional fee.

If SE would step up and create an instanced housing system there would be plenty of housing for everybody. Going to instanced housing would save them system resources, make it easier to manage system load and allow for removal of restrictions like the 20 item maximum for exteriors. They could even run it in parallel with the wards for those who are willing to live with its restrictions. The only thing missing is SE's willingness to really do something about the problem.

For most players allowing alts to share the house would negate their need for a second one. Some who RP might wish to keep the alternate personas but many others have stated the only reason they have more than one house is the inability to share. We shouldn't have to pay for what is basic content in many MMO's.

I already pay extra to have more than one character, why do I have to pay more to have standard features available to my main character for all of my characters? I already worked hard to get what I have why should I have to pay more on top of that? Just scrap the wards entirely and give me instanced housing with a massive gil sink of size upgrades pls.

Upon logging in I read the new notice, it said TEMPORARY MEASURES. So it's possible they may lift this 'one personal' thing sometime. But it's more likely that they never will, because I'm pretty sure the temporary thing is FC only.
