Satisfying community (New player)

Hi everyone! :o
Former WoW player here who enjoy playing as TANK role and just started FF14 and wow must i say the community feels GREAT!

I am also a fan of FF series and FF14 offered me the feeling of FF Dissidia where players from different realm meet in Dungeons and fight as a team (i know its the same in WoW) but everyone is so friendly (both NA & Japanese)

The differences between WoW in dungeon are:
1. Most players generally are more patience and wait for new players (me) to watch the scenarios/ cut scene:rolleyes:

2. Since i am a tank, most players HARDLY pull mobs before i do, they wait for the tank (leader) to commence pull. And my god EVEN at elevators most players let me initiate it. I am mind blown of how considerate and mature these players are and at the same time making me feel like i am the leader of the team.:cool:

3. At the start of dungeon, most players GREETS! Even i dont do it myself sometimes because i forget (but il try to remember) These are called manners. Wonderful start for a dungeon. It just makes so much difference when people greet which puts a smile on my face to want to do a better job at protecting my precious party member and not let them down.

4. Likewise end of dungeon, MOST players will say their farewells. It literally makes my heart melt every time these players does it and it makes me miss them. Also no matter how slow the progression and how much we failed the boss, MOST players stayed positive at the very end of the run encouraging and congratulating together. That is what makes the game so satisfying to play. Did i also mention the victory fanfare of the team is freaking amazing i can NEVER skip that cutscene even if i wanted to.

It just so satisfying to see myself and my most patience and forgiving party members celebrating victory together! Also, a FF dissidia vibe where everyone goes back to their realm and hoping one day we will see each other again.:p

In conclusion, all those that i mentioned earlier that players do really makes a huge difference to my dungeon experience and i wanted to sincerely thank you all for it. i REALLY enjoyed my time in FF14 and will not see myself going anywhere for a while. Looking forward to meeting more new, friendly people in this awesome community and game.;)

Hello! We're on the same data centre so we might end up in a dungeon together sometime!

And yes I love the victory fanfare - I kind of wish it was unskippable because I like to watch it (plus it can be the only time you actually get a proper look at your team mates, and I like to see people's character designs!), but it seems like everyone else skips over it and then they're waiting for me to roll for loot.

It's great that you enjoy your experience here and don't worry about this 100500 pages "venting" thread you got a link to earlier - things that you can read there almost never happen on Japanese realms ( I play on J Data Center too), rather what you described in your first post is normal!

Thanks for the welcome PandaMonium! Yes i do get mix of english and japanese players all very friendly in this data center as you mentioned :)
We will get some of "those experience" but im positive its much better than WoW's hahaha

Honestly, I think we should put in a request to have the victory cutscenes as another option. I really miss those - hate that it's included with 'skip previously viewed cutscenes'. Watching at an inn doesn't help, because, say, at the end of Wanderer's Palace HM, it doesn't feel quite as amazing/funny when you don't see another party member horrified at what they see in that cutscene.

I left WoW for FFXIV mostly becuase of WOW's Call of Duty style community of immature kids and tryhards. welcome to a more mature (mostly) place!

I'm new to the game (well, I played a while back up to level 28 but I'm trying to get back into it now) and when I first did a Dungeon (Sastasha?) it came as a bit of a shock to me because I wasn't used to playing as a team and members having 'roles'. Needless to say, I got nailed by the team for pulling agro but I literally didn't know any better :(
Trying to focus on learning my place in the team, because I'm hoping to keep this up as a social game, so it's good to hear from a Tank's POV.

As a former WoW player I gotta say this is 100% what FFXIV is a better game. I was surprised how people would stop and offer some help (or terebinth if your gear has bad dyes) and want nothing in return. The simple "hellos" and "goodbyes" as well as the jokes and conversations in group content. It's nice to see a community that actually acts like a community.

Welcome to the game, OP! I'm pleased you're finding it enjoyable thus far. I haven't played super long myself, but in the last few months since I've started I've found the game to be pretty enjoyable. Yes, there can be frustrating moments at times, but overall it's been fun for me so far and it's worth it for the runs when you get a fun, positive group. I hope you continue to enjoy things for as long as you play!

FFXIV is what an mmo should be and I'm glad I found it, the community talks to each other, helps each other but that's only possible because the devs understand that creating rules and systems to make people want/need each other's help is really really really important in mmos.

Other mmo devs
A lot of mmo devs leave it up to us to be nice to each other and defend it by saying not being nice to each other makes pvp good but that's a lie, it just decreases the community and makes everyone not want to be involved in the community. But yes ffxiv is beautiful and the devs really care about us experience the great times together with each other's help.

Welcome and I hope you bring anyone you know to Eorzea also, ffxiv is the best mmo and I'm glad more people see it. Also great to see another tank that appreciates the role of protecting and leading the fights.

I'm glad you're enjoying the community. I hope you continue enjoying it as long as possible. I know the forums paint a darker scene but like you, I actually like the community also. Yes we have our problem children but we also have alot of good apples here too. Kind of makes me wish we had "Tales of the community" thread that was just as ongoing as the Tales of DF thread but unfortunately, its not good news that keep things rolling lol.

But really I do hope you keep having fun. The community has a lot of wonderful people and you know, there's some regulars on the forums who love to help others when asked for it. Don't be shy and seek them out.

Some of you are right, we will get some horrible experience now and then but knowing there are also many of you guys around who will make everyone else's time including myself in the game having a great time

i know right it really does make me feel appreciated and welcomed at the start and end of dungeon. such small gestures make such huge differences. thank you for doing them im sure myself and everyone really appreciates them even when we dont say it ;)

As someone else who came from WoW straight to this game I can appreciate and echo your sentiments. Nothing is perfect, but it is much better than my experience in WoW was at that time (the end of Pandaria or so) and still continues to be. Hope you continue to enjoy yourself.
