So I just hit level 60 and I've been running around in augmented ironworks gear. I've been looking at the wiki for gearing help but I'm unsure if I'm going the right path. From what I understand augmented shire armor and accessories are what I should be working on, but what about the weapon? I've started working on the anima weapon quest but it's pretty long and I'm afraid if the wiki's information is outdated I'm wasting my time by doing it. Can anyone give me some advice? (I should also mention that I'm pretty much a complete noob at this game still. I'm trying to rush to catch up to my friends who already play so I really haven't experienced much content besides the main quest the duties that come with it.)

I wouldn't bother with the 60 relic from a gearing perspective.
There is a shire weapon (and an augmented version as well). If you've got no problem farming poetics, get that. Hunts are a good way to get poetics and you can even use centurio gear for whatever you're missing. I'd recommend joining a hunt Linkshell if you haven't already.
I wore my augmented ironworks gear until I could get (augmented) shire, which I then wore all the way up until 70 for verity/creation, unless a dungeon happened to give an upgrade.
The game does throw gear at you as you level ,but you can just sell those and stay on the augmented gear. Never had trouble with it. -

At lv60, going for Augmented Shire gear is definitely the way to go. While you're saving Poetics up, I'd recommend maybe getting some of the lv60 gear from the Ishgard shops if you have some gil saved up. I believe that gear's at about ilvl 255, and should hold up better than the Ironworks gear for any lv60 content. I wouldn't go overboard with spending gil on it, since you'll be updating it pretty quickly, but a few pieces to fill the gaps probably wouldn't hurt. Once you have a set of Augmented Shire gear, you'll be in good shape up until you hit the lv65 MSQ dungeon. Beyond that point, any Shire gear will get more and more impractical as you go towards lv70. From that point you'll want to keep grabbing dungeon gear until you can get to the endgame and collect Creation (and eventually Mendacity when 4.2 gets here) tomestones.
As for saving up Poetics, like others have said hunts are supposed to be pretty helpful (I've not tried it myself tbh). You can do the 50/60 Roulettes for a good portion a day, though a lot of people don't bother with this roulette and it may take longer to queue. Trial Roulettes offer some, and if you're a glutton for punishment then the Main Scenario Roulette offers a nice amount of them. I'd also suggest trying out some older raids and such, as especially with the first time bonuses these can roll in the Poetics. You can use Party Finder to let people know you're doing these for the first time, and many will probably join up for the bonus and lend a hand. You can do them synced if you'd like a challenge, but you may want to run unsynced to make things a bit quicker (Click the gear icon in Duty Finder and select "undersized party". Find out which methods work best for you, and good luck! -

I recommend not buying any shire armor(left side) at all. Use your tomes on a shire weapon and shire right side pieces ie the jewelry. You get a box of free left side gear which is 200ilvl including a belt by finishing the 60 class quest. The reason is that you will replace your entire left side by running just five dungeons. You are given one piece of visible armor per run and this piece isn't a duplicate of anything you have. Starting at 61 in Siren's this will be ilvl 260.(?)
As a white mage, you will want to hit your level's dungeon a couple of times to keep your level in line with your main story quest so this all works itself out. -

I went from 50-70 with only MSQ, mostly necessary dungeons and doing roulettes maybe once a week and didn't have any leveling issues until 68, at which point doing 1 roulette was enough to level (and then again for 69 and 70).Quote:

You auto get 1 left side piece of gear in every levelling dungeon so right sides are the most important if you want to stay competetive. Unless you have the time to run a bunch of stuff for augmented shire gear. Or you really like it for glam. Personally, I wouldn't delay anything and get moving to 70....where you also get a box full of level appropriate gear when you do your class quests. The main stat on a piece of gear will be maxed without melds, so put things like determination and crit on instead. Main stat materia will only go on accessories, and even then, the main stat proper will be maxed already and none of the others main stats do anything for that gear's job, except in the cases of a tank adding strength to fending accessories or a non-tank raider adding vitality for survivability in new raid content.Quote:

I still feel trying to get a suit of 270 gear at 60 is overkill. Between your class quest and Heavensward story rewards, you will have more than enough power to enter Stormblood story and first dungeon. I would just start filling in the gaps with shire gear as you naturally accumulate tomes doing fun stuff. Do get that weapon, however!
I was wrong about receiving only left side gear for completing a Stormblood dungeon. I think I accumulated right side accessories so quickly from the chest so I didn't notice. I do not consider doing a dungeon just a couple of times grinding though. -

How can ilv270 be overkill at lv 60? It's almost the best gear before SB expansion, and to have it so easily now, it's almost like taking it for granted.
The lvl 60 class gears (ilv 200) is a good intermediate choice, until the end of HW, entering SB with this is hard time.
I think there are so many options to give depending on his situation because it's not clearly stated, just fresh lvl 60
1. The easiest will be stick to MSQ free gears, this guarantee survival for sure, the best? of course not
2. Running a certain dungeon to get wanted gear is waste of time at that lv, better off with option 1
3. If you have saved up poetics, can easily buy Shire at Idyllshire
4. Don't have enough poetics? Use the lv 60 class gear first, and back to option 1 or start to save up poetic -
