Leveling Discussion

I thought this topic was interesting but the last thread is far off topic so I started my own.

At 62 my warrior is getting around 540k per PoTD run. I am getting 1.2 million for Siren's dungeon and about 485k for a Stone Vigil squadron run. Finally, I get 118k for a common 60'sh fate.

Now needing around 5 million for a level PotD is going to take about 10 runs and usually runs about 20 minutes. You need just over dungeons and about 30 minutes each, and 12 squadron runs at 15-18 minutes each.

PotD will take about three hours for a level.
Highest Dungeon two and a half hours per level for a tank/healer including around 5 minutes per queue, three to four hours for dps including 20-40 minutes per queue.
Squadrons will take you about 3 hours if you're a tank/healer and 3 and a half hours if you are not. (assuming ala mihgo earring)

IMO all these times are pretty good for an expansion level in an mmo. My numbers are estimates from my own times and without rested or fc buffs. Dungeons can still be viable for dps because you can fill in those times you are waiting on a queue with these fates solo or leves. Squadrons are the most laid back of the three but they cost a lot of seals even if you loot the chest. PotD will give you the hordes and potshards and 2000gil per run as well.

From my own experience, I start PotD at 15-40, Squads from 41-60 with dungeons tossed in if I tank/heal and at 61+, I do dungeons all the way and fill in wait times with fates in Fringes then Yanxia. I do my fates solo but very often people will see you doing these fates and it starts a chain people joining in till my queue pops. :)

It's never been a secret that dungeons are the fastest exp.
It's just for dps queues you don't get in them often.

There's always Kojin Tribe quests to kill time while waiting for duty. I totally prefer that and sometimes a FATE with Exp bonus than doing PotD. Frontline Roulette and Alliance Roulette gives a lot of experience too (don't know in numbers but those are the methods I use to lvl up from 60 to 61, or if I feel like lazy leveling, to 65 and then spam the last 3 dungeons). Even in the case PotD would give good experience, is just a big no for me ;(

You know what I found amusing that the other thread did not mention?

If you wipe a floor in Potd, all that time you spent on it is automatically wasted. At least in dgns, you get your exp.

When I'm leveling a class(currently put that on hold since I only have 4 DoW/DoM - WAR, MCH, SCH/SMN, and MNK - left to level), every Tuesday I start with Expert->50/60->Leveling->Trial->Main Scenario(I know, people hate this, but it's decent quick EXP and a newbie bonus most of the time)->Alliance. Usually by the end of my runs on Tuesday I have the 3 duty roulette dungeon and Commendation bonus EXP from challenge log taken care of. Then I just run 1 or 2 dungeons to finish off the 5 dungeons challenge. I've passed on doing the Kojin lately, since I want to get all my crafters to 50 ASAP(only 5 more to go...and doing all 12 Ixal quests daily) so that I can use the allowances on the new beast tribe when it gets released and keep leveling the crafters decently.

PotD until lv31ish then squads until 51 then PotD/Dungeon until lv60 then PvP/Dungeon to Lv70.

PotD also drops off after 60. It doesn't scale up, so at 69 you need like over 100 runs whereas Alliance Roulette will give you 2 million XP by itself.

The dps leveling experience is pretty bad though. You spend more time at or below 60 for exp, or in pvp, that its not really an expansion till you get to 70. You don't upgrade gear as much cause its mostly level synced anyways, and you don't get a lot of practice on your new abilities.

In order to get a good idea on how much experience points i can get by running the content i run on a daily basis, i kept track of all the experience points mentioned within the chat log as i was running the content. This is what came out of today's runs:

Alliance roulette
Wait time: 10 min.
Total XP gained: 2.571.260 experience points (for a level 50 Raid in the Alliance Roulette on a Level 65 Samurai)

Basically in a little over 2 hours of playtime (including the queue times), i've managed to collect 9.140.170 experience points by running the Alliance Roulette, Leveling roulette, Bardam's Mettle as well working on the Beastmen Daily Quests.

I do not have this Alliance Roulette and now I want it! I also did not know Kojin gave so much experience, I'll have to start including those. Thanks for the tip. :)

I do have to add that i'm maxed out on the Reputation for the Blue Kojin, so if you are just starting with the Daily quests, the experience points you get from it will be a bit lower. From the top of my head, the lowest amount of experience points i got from the Blue Kojin Daily Quests was just over 215.000 experience points per quest (which is still pretty good, considering that you can complete those 3 quests in roughly 10 to 15 minutes and get 645.000 or more experience points from it).

To add a bit more perspective to what Aldora said above me, at level 60, with the Kojin maxed, you can get 246,915exp per quest

Once my SMN and my WHM hit 70, I've been leveling my jobs with lvling roulette, beast tribe quests and fates. It's not super fast but it goes along nicely. I rarely bother with potd. It's just a fun thing I do on the side. Same with pvp (which gives nice exp also). It's meant to be easy enough to solo so I really don't think it should have super high exp added. There are other ways to lvl.
Also, OP, as a tank you can just do dungeon after dungeon with insta-pop queues and get from 62 to 70 by tomorrow, if you want to put a little effort in.

The nice thing here is options. Back in 2.0 your leveling options were fate zerging or fate zerging. Now I got multiple things I can do depending on what I feel like doing. I tend to go for the least boring option rather than the most optimal.

Another tip, particularly for anyone waiting in queue: do the daily Hunt bills.

In Stormblood, you get a minimum of ~110k XP per bounty. At level 65-66, you should be able to complete all of them (save the occassional single one in Lochs). At level 69, completing all three daily bills nets you about 2 million worth of XP.

(Similarly, you can do the Heavensward bills between 51-60. Plus the Centurio seals and 17,5k gil - if you do them all - are always handy).

Alliance roulette gives the best xp. Especially for dps because its a relatively fast queue.

But other than that if you are a tank or healer, daily leveling roulette along with alliance roulette is a good way to get easy xp.

My inner completionist demands I get all my "unused" DoW/M classes from ~30 to 40 for no real reason other than it looking nicer (and being the next step in getting them all to 50 eventually where more options open up) and freeing up some retainer space.
I'm looking at mostly DPS, the one healer I can't quite wrap my head around (AST) and two tanks I refuse to play in dungeons.

I suppose I'll get AST done through dungeons so that leaves DPS with 15-30 minutes queues and the tanks where I'll skip dungeons alltogether, I'm done being hurried along by DF DPS when I already feel insecure about setting the pace.
So, to get to the point, what's the fastest way to get those from 30 to 40, squads?

I'm the same with regards to PotD. I only run it every now and then when friends want to do something mind numbingly easy. Or when we all decide we want to try for floor 200(which none of us have done yet, and none of us have agreed on a time to go for it).

PVP is fun every now and then, I mostly do it for the mounts/minions you can get from it(still a ways off from most of them sadly).

The problem though is that, well, things like hunts and alliance really suck if you've been playing a bit. Neither have changed much from the start of HW. Alliance roulette is stupid because the rewards are useless and you've done them over and over for the whole two years of the HW expansion. None of the raid gear is dyable yet, so its limited for glamor, and you're still bidding against the entire alliance for crafted stuff, minions, and cards. Single hunts are BORING-the mobs repeat far too much with no variation, and most of your time is spent in transit between them. Kojin is still the same old beast tribe stuff, just double the exp and overall easier.

I'm waiting for the new POTD to level the 4 remain classes i need to, just because the leveling path is so tedious now. They needed to make new things, when all they did is just make the same old same old a little more lucrative.
