Should Relic be released the first Patch after Expansion?

I'm finding a lot of non-extreme, non-unending folks really losing interest in the game throughout all of the 4.1 patch.

Rabanastre was really fun, don't get me wrong. But after the first three weeks or so, it gets stale. The high-end folks stop after 4 or 5 weeks, and the remaining teams tend to either be good or really, really, REALLY bad.

Even if the developers weren't ready to push for the content yet, there's still opportunity to make a "coin" or "token" that's collected throughout the expansion and first patch (this is 3-6 months) of collecting items to prepare for the relic. This could get more players psyched up for one or more than one token to prepare. I think 3 months after an expansion, people ask, "what now?" and give up. This could be that linking incentive.

Honestly Relic should be released sooner in my opinion. People complain that raids would be affected as well do to more interest in relics. When you think about it unless it involves the story line it really should not matter and for the most part they have been optional. Then again we are in the cupcake generation and things get over exaggerated.

I am definetly feeling the loss of not having a current Lvl 70 relic weapon to grind for. Funnily enough, this means I'm still grinding out my remaining Zodiac and Anima weapons and prioritize any roulette that gives me Poetics. Verity tomestones at least should have another use as Poetics are worth more then they are (Alexandrite, Umbrite, Penumbrite, etc.). Once I cap out on Creation and get my Rabanaster drop I don't have a real reason to do Lvl 70 content (I don't have time to raid/do trials) so I just level up combat jobs and farm more Poetics. Actually, I'm kinda not looking forward to having all combat jobs at Lvl 70 as that cuts the amount of Poetics I can get down...

It should be released upon expansion release, or 2-3 weeks after the same time the "raid" comes out. Just my opinion.

Following the example set by both the Zodiac and Anima weapons, releasing the relic weapon later is about the most hazardous thing they can do to the system, imo. The whole point was that it gains in levels and is competitive if not bis all throughout the expansion, but now what are they going to do? We've already several weapon tiers in, will they force us to rush through a lot of redundant stages, as people sneeze and they have enough Verity for a weapon? Or will they cut down those stages, in the process potentially affecting the storyline planned and at the very least, heavily reducing how much of a time sink the relic will be?
If nothing else, delaying the relic made me play other games more, and I know I'm not the only one, so that was really a big mistake on their part.

It should have definitely been released in 4.1. I’m in total agreeement there. However,

Can’t release it that soon without risking invalidating both Savage and Tomestone weapons, depending on the relic ilvl.

That being said, 4.1 should have included the first relic step. I’m extremely frustrated with the lack of relics, and I’m a raider. There’s nothing for me to do after farming primals/Savage and I would love a relic or two to work on. I’m actually doing old relics to keep myself preoccupied. >.>

They were likely planning to have it in 4.1 or 4.15, but had already said that it'd be heavily involved with Eureka, in interviews prior to the release of Stormblood.

Unfortunately, the delay of Eureka also meant no relic weapon in 4.1(5).

I honestly feel like they should have maybe separated the first step from Eureka to just give the playerbase something—make it something like the first steps of the Zodiac and Anima where you FATE farm (not the best but something), and then do the dungeons. Then they could segue into Eureka. Just really wish they’d given us something.

The problem with saying that Eureka was planned to be released in 4.15 and was delayed is that now SE is saying that Eureka is planned to be released in 4.25. What if it gets delayed again? They also aren't saying much about it except that the Relic Weapon/Armor is built in it and that it has some type of progression system that only works in Eureka. The other thing they've said about it is that it can be played both solo and with other people and that it involves killing special monsters. A lot of the playerbase is starting to think that Eureka will be nothing more then a glorified Diadem (with relic weapons/armor given as incentives to play it) and that it'll be delayed again until the 4.3 patch cycle comes around. Until SE manages to give concrete information that distances Eureka from Diadem-like content (and PotD-like content come to think of it) and gives us a solid release date, I don't see any reason to actually get excited about the SB relics.

'Cause seriously, if I had to do Diadem to get a relic weapon... I honestly would wait until the next expansion so I could at least get exp out of it for my classes. ARR and HW relics are mainly tomestone farms and I can do that on any class that can get the correct tomestones and a whole lot of other beneficial stuff (Exp, drops, etc.) In fact, that's what I did. I leveled several jobs from Lvl 50 - 60 by grinding out relics for other jobs. Now, maybe that'll look different when I've got all the combat classes up to Lvl 70, but it seems like a really bad idea for SE to make players not be able to do that.

Long story short, I think SE has really screwed up with the non-raiding crowd by delaying the relic weapon this long. Currently, all the BiS gear is locked behind raiding or farming capped tomestones. So once the capped tomestone grind is done for the week, what else are the non-raiders supposed to do?

It was delayed once. Yoshi had even stated that the plans to add Eureka to the game had been pushed back to the Patch 4.2 cycle, not the initial 4.2 patch.

They're also not saying much yet because we've only just had the first live letter for 4.2, with another one happening before the release. And even then, it's slated for 4.25 anyway.

I think relics should be right there to start the moment you finish the MSQ in a fresh expansion. Either that, or it should progress in parallel to the normal difficulty raid. I don't think it should be BiS at any given time, though. Serious raiders should get their best gear from raiding, not from content specifically designed for people who are looking for a grind.

Take this current iteration where non-Savage players had to wait 7 weeks to get a 330 weapon or challenge Shinryu EX for a 335. Since Shinryu EX is the hardest trial before Ultimate, non-Savage casuals probably are positioned at Susano EX, which is 320, conforming to the normal Omega raid armor item level and Lakshmi accessories.

My proposal would be that right at this stage, non-Savage players grinding on the relic should get a 330. If you can beat Shinryu EX and get the 345 weapon, then basically you should be a Savage level raider anyway. So the non-Savage raider either farm O4N for 7 weeks and spend 1k Creation or put in the hours and grind the relic. Most people in this group will probably choose to grind the relic and spend the creation on armor and accessories.
