NA Feedback:Add East Coast Server.

After doing my research & checking census Final Fantasy XIV did double is active sub in NA especially with success of Stormblood. New Players keep continue coming to this game.

For further growth of this game SE please, when dealing with your current ISP for next contract in NA can you consider to add east coast server so we can even out with west coast in terms of performance on this game.I know it looks like greedy request & gonna get criticized but logically is next step for health & continuity growth of this game esp for NA.North America ain't small like Japan or Europe in terms of landscape it might need a little more help but it worth it in terms $$$.There no way this year for sure but late 2018 or before new expansion will be a good opportunity to do it IF you do it.

Which servers get moved to east coast? How will housing/FC's/linkshells be dealt with? Will you get to choose if your server moves?

Would you give everything up to transfer if the servers you weren't on moved?

From what I can tell, the server design relies heavily on data centers, rather than individual servers. An East coast server that's tied into the NA data center wouldn't get you anything as soon as you enter something like a roulette, because you'd be paired up with people on the West coast data center, necessitating that one of them be the one running that particular instance (or having both data centers be in constant contact and relaying everything).

You'd need an entirely new data center, which would be disconnected from the existing NA data center and thus wouldn't have the playerbase to really work that well.

Well in fairness, NA has 2 datacentres. Aether and Primal. So one could be east coast, the other west coast. It's not EU which only has one datacentre (Chaos). So I wouldn't say you'd need a new datacentre for that. Now, if we were to get an eastern european server for example, that'd require a new datacentre since there's only 1 EU datacentre.

I'm not thrilled with needing a VPN to play ever since the servers moved, and an east coast server would certainly benefit me personally, but it's just not going to happen. It's simply too expensive to operate the game out of a 4th location given that it would not bring in enough new subs to justify the expense. MMOs are all about wringing out profits and minimizing expenses. It would've been nice if they could've just picked a central NA location in the first place.

It SE will decide for server i feel it going be Primal if not then time to create alt on Aether.for housing will be same anyway they gonna add something in 4.2 for everyone get fair chance im guessing they gonna add house seller thing so if you transfer there chance a house might be selling.But they need to check housing system first it hella broken with alts & stuffs. FC/LS i know alot raiders who move to gilgamesh back in gordias days to clear content for performance they do the same it player who decide where to go.

The na data centers used to be east coast(ish) and for many years the west coast players had to put up with what we on the east coast have to deal with now. Splitting up the na servers to east and west coast would be a horrible idea. If they were to make any move at all (which I doubt) the smart move would be to move the servers to somewhere in the middle.

I'm on Primal and I live on the east coast and I'd rather they stayed where they are than split into two. I have many friends that I would lose if an east coast west coast split happened. I think the majority of people would rather keep their friends/fcs/statics/ than have a slightly lower ping.

Also, OP you are not the NA spokesperson, stop making threads every month because you want the data center back in your hometown.

Those that want to deal with higher ping like the previous center still have the choice too and vice versa. The issue is some on the east coast have such vastly worse ping where connecting to EU servers is better, and thats not right. While a center location wouldve been ideal, they choose not too. so why not split the two. That's just my two cents. Carry on.

Again, we on the east coast are now playing with what the west coast had to deal with all along until the server move. A central location would be way better than splitting up the data centers. The server move affected me too as I live on the east coast. In fact you can't get any more east coast than my state. I still don't want to give up my friends/fc/ls.

I don’t understand why they can’t just have something in the middle so no one ends up with really high ping. I’m on the east coast and am normally between 88-90ms, which isn’t too awful, but some days I don’t know what happens and I end up way up at 200ms. Anyway, neither coast should have to be at a disadvantage, there is no reason they can’t either do one west and one east or do both somewhere in the middle.

What's sad is a lot of people on the east coast ( mainly my FC mates around NYC ) have slighty lower ping on EU servers. I stand by the west coast servers being a massive mistake. :rolleyes:

I dont know why they couldn't have moved to Houston or Chicago. I always thought they should have split where the clusters were located, but forget commonsense!!!! What do we think this is? Blizzard? ( granted they have WAY more data centers than FFXIV but they have data centers located east, west and midwest ) I think the terrible servers and their mind boggling location is here to stay.

Looks like the new standard is FFXIV Sub + Mudfish Sub if you want to raid on the east coast.... or you know play Ninja well.

I'm not American and SE moving the servers forced me to use a VPN to get my ping back, due of extremely bad routing. I'm from Argentina, I used to have 175ms, now I'm at 280ms with an insane amont of packet loss. Back to normal by using WTFast. WHY?!

In any case, I don't think that splitting the servers would be a nice idea at this point. I'd believe Yoshi-p will want to unify both Aether and Primal at some point. If they don't want to, may as well divide them between West Coast and East Coast... or just move the whole cluster to a middle point like Houston.

One of these days I'm going to record what it looks like to use a rescue on someone on NA servers with these pings (east). Its absolutely hilarious, especially if the person you use it on has anything above a hundred as well.

I don't think the solution is to split us all up but rather to centralize. They moved the server to its current location for ease of access, that much is obvious. Mid east and east coast customers were probably not even considered for this move.

Ease of access probably had little to do with it actually. More to do with contracts and their intended provider.

The people onsite at corporate offices usually have very little to do with the servers themselves, especially branch offices.

Physical location of the servers isn't the issue. Its the horrible quality of the internet infrastructure in the US setup by ISP's due to the amount of area they have to cover and much of it having minimal to no competition for service. Regardless of location someone is going to have latency issues. The US hasn't even made a full conversion to chip authentication with credit cards yet while its been a thing in many areas outside the US for years. This is because American businesses prefer to procrastinate or avoid expenditures to upgrade or improve hardware until it is absolutely necessary. Your connection to the server is only as good as its weakest link.

Would vote for Primal to move back to Montreal!

What about Hawaii and Alaska? My ping still sucks, but it sucks less now. it's almost better to play on the JP servers. Almost.

Square-Enix is likely locked into a contract with their current datacenter host. Possibly for years. NTT has two datacenters in the US. One on the East Coast. One on the West Coast. There is no US Central datacenter, and barely any nodes because it's not exactly built up.

Outside of general ISPs being shitty, there shouldn't be any issues with people connecting from the east coast to get to the NA datacenter. There are issues with connections outside of the USA/Canada. Europeans have to cross the Atlantic and then all of continental USA. (One might advise they play content on their datacenter to alleviate connection issues.) Last I heard, parts of Central and South America were being routed to the EU, then to NA, which has greatly impacted their connections. (Which is why VPNs/WTFast fixes a lot of this.)

How about SE just move the NA data centers to Chicago, Dallas, or potentially even Denver? You know, places near the center of North America? That's where they should have relocated to in the first place. I agree that splitting the data centers would work best, but locating it properly would be better than nothing. SE screwed up with the move; let's hold them responsible for fixing it.

My internet woes lately have been of the variety that moving the datacenter wouldn't resolve - if SE itself isn't getting DDoSed, then my local internet is getting chewed up and spit out. (FU, Charter.)

I'm shocked I stayed stable tonight considering that Atlanta unexpectedly turned into a snowy frozen hellscape today. I guess Irma blew down a lot of the dead wood that normally would have iced everything over by now.

Long story short, while an east coast data center would be nice, I think there are other infrastructure upgrades that are more important. Moving one of the data centers across the country would be prohibitively expensive. A better option would be to leverage a service like AWS and have a virtual data center that is still managed on the west coast, but located in an AWS center in someplace like VA. That way they wouldn't have to physically rent a space, just rent a dozen dedicated server racks from Amazon.
