2 person flying mount question

When riding passenger on a flying mount over an area that has no land below, how does the game handles it if the person driving the chocobo gets disconnected?

Does the game let you fall to your death to resurrect at your respawn Aetheryte? Does the game crash? Do you fall and get stuck? Are you automatically placed on a flying mount? Are you instantly teleported to an Aetheryte without death?

I'm curious what happens since the game normally prevents you from going out of bounds unless flying and prevents you from dismounting unless on solid ground

You won't fall, but you won't stay there either. This happened to me once and if I remember right I was returned to my home point (because as you pointed out, you might very well be flying over impassable terrain)

I see, thanks for the info. Definitely a relief to hear it won't cause a crash or my character to get stuck there. Was riding passenger with a friend while looking for hunts and she kept getting the dc icon which had me worried thus why I made this inquiry.

If I recall, you'll be teleported to the closest Aetheryte. It won't crash your game or anything, so nothing to worry about on that end. :)

Yep, if for any reason the mount gets dropped while in the air (be it due to disconnection, entering duty, etc) the passenger will be immediately and automatically transfererred to the closest aetheryte.

Now I want to test this for...well...science.

Done it before. Riding as passenger, duty, come back to aetheryte on far side of zone.

Friend and I were talking over PS chat about this...what about if you aren't attuned to an aetheryte on that map? We will be testing it sometime soon for science....even if someone already knows the answer because science!

Attunement doesn't matter, it places you there no matter what.

You don't even need a duty or disconnect, the rider can just teleport, if you were high enough it will send you to the aetheryte.

What if the first person has all the aetherite currents, but the passenger doesn't. Can both fly?

Yes. You can take your friends or just someone who needs them to all the currents. Fun fact: in Yanxia you can fly THROUGH the barrier with someone who hasn't completed that part of the story yet and get them all the points on the other side.

That's how I got most of them in SB.

I take FC members around all the time to "discover" new maps. Yes you can be passenger no matter your level. You just have to be in a party with the driver.

All aether currents are located in the southern part of Yanxia though. You can unlock flying during your first visit there. Getting carried through the barrier only lets you access the aetheryte on that side earlier.

Isn't there one current that is locked behind story you need to do in the north end?

Erm, ya sure? As far as I know anyway, the aetheryte is locked behind MSQ, not by being able to access the area.

I want to try this in the Dravanian Hinterlands, since it technically has no Aetheryte.

Dravania Hinterlands drops you at to gobling outpost just south of town.
