I want to be able to queue for Trials (that have primals) as the boss!
Let's see how well these warriors of light do when it's not an AI controlling everything!

Even though it won't happen...it could be pretty fun. Though I would love to be Titan - just waiting for a BLM or WHM to longcast something, then boom! Hit them with a landslide. It'll give me an excuse to be a jerk for once :D I would try it for the sole purpose of making players rage quit out of my trial lol.
Non-sequential attacks means unpredictable incoming damage.... Which means less of an ability to plan ahead for CD/oGCD usage....
Guys did this post just solve the "we want content where healers and tanks need to heal and tank more!" debate that keeps popping up?
You played as monster in open world zones. What mobs and levels was zone restricted. There was a whole progression system involved for unlocking new monsters and abilities.

I want this so bad
I saw this thread title and I was like "what is this nonsense?" and then I read the idea and realized it's the best idea ever. I would love this so much.
This is kind of the way PvP worked in LotRO (though it was called PvMP for obvious reasons). There was only one zone, the Ettenmoors, but it was drop-in/drop-out play that really worked well: https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Monster_Play
I really love this idea. It would be like kumasylum from Tera which I outlined in my thread about lighthearted PVP instances.
WoW actually had a quest where you had to play as Illidan as a raid boss and a group of NPCs who were basically a raid party would attack you. they also kept asking each other about which loot they wanted.
I could see it working as long as there was no loot involved, otherwise it would be abused to the point of no return. Group A goes in to get their gear, player controlling said Primal is their friend/FC member, sits there and doesn't do anything. Also you would have to add timers all that to flesh out the being able to use. I could just imagine tho as a joke Titan jumping off the cliff and people just looking confused as hell, it would be a riot but I doubt it'll ever come to play.
I'm for it definitely sounds fun. We could be the Primal of light fighting the evil malicious warriors of dark.
I would like to beat up my FC as a primal. So yes please!
Primal PvP. At long last, a real, serious reason for me to try the Feast.
Well it doesn't have to be.
The one from FFXI sounds cool, but it didn't sound exactly the same. I don't want to just be a mob, I want to be a primal!
It could be in some awesome new pvp map. (Heck, could be unlocked by reaching pvp rank 50, since it's kind of pointless now and it gives an incentive for newer players to try pvp, but that's just a thought...)
Or if they do the actual trial, it keeps track of the boss DPS so if someone is trying to let the others "win", it just goes "Turning on AI mode. Not enough damage from player".
I believe that the WoL is actually a primal.....
Certain mechanics would have to be implemented so you don't just wipe the trial. As an example, you'd easily win just beelining the healers, or cleaving the group, so if a tank uses an agro combo or ability, you won't be able to attack anyone other than the tank.
I think it would be fun if they could do something like this though!
Well, all you need to do is kill the healer and the game ends there.
It was mostly a joke thread, but if the suggestion is taken seriously, that's circumvented by not giving the player full control. Aggro would still be in place and would affect which targets are selectable. (except for special attacks that allow picking any random player), and by making it so that for attacks that are too powerful, the healer cannot be chosen at all. Cooldowns and other timers would also exist to keep power in check.
I spend so much time doing hunts that I've started feel a little sorry for the monsters in question. Getting to be a hunt mark would be the best thing ever to me.
And yeah, to keep it fair, they'd have make at least your auto-attacks and unavoidable sources of non-random single target damage obey aggro rules so you can't just gib the healers. Running over to them to do an avoidable AoE would be fine, though, since a ton of hunts already do that.
This would be an awesome PvP mode.
It vaguely reminds me of the PvP mode in L4D2 where you could play as the zombies going after the survivors and the teams would take turns. Whoever got the farthest won (because it was hard to get to the end with human controlled zombies).
And of course in addition to Primal vs players, gotta have Primal vs Primal(s).
This .... this ... this Idea .... I love it. How fun would it be to be a premade 8 man group with your friends/fc mates and be able to see if they can kill you before you are able to destroy them as titan/sephirot/zurvan/levi ... etc. I think with Rando's it might be a little frustrating for the group of people. With FC mates or friends, you can literally turn it in to a competition to see who can be the best boss/primal.
So given that it looks like OP provided a truly awesome idea, let's keep this thread going and just keep our fingers crossed that the devs take notice and forward it by the time of the next Letter of the Producer.
The player being able to ignore the aggro would actually give more of a reason for group play. And no, going after the healer single-mindedly wouldn't actually be instant-win, as the "monster" that's the player can still be kited, just like in PvP. Running around a healer that does nothing but run would end up trickling at the bosses life as the tanks and DPS's attack him unimpeded.
The special attacks would all have cooldowns, so it's more about changing the "script" than anything else. It's not like a player could cast cleave after cleave at the party. However, yes, their damage would need to be adjusted so that the aggro-based attacks that serve as AoE tank-busters (Shiva and her cleave being an example) wouldn't instant-wipe the party just cause they could be aimed now. It now would, however, be a game of the party spreading out thoughtfully to make the "primal" AoE as few of them as possible, instead of each standing wherever they please.
What if it was "partial Control"
Like for instance, you couldn't control the targeting, but you could control some of the abilities. So it's a question of throwing a monkey wrench into the works at just the right moment.
side note: way back in EQ1 I was on the Fironia Vie RP server. And while in Mistmoore Castle grinding I see the boss get pulled out of the room and proceed to wipe the floor with everyone in the zone. So there I am, laying dead on the ground wondering how he came all the way out to the courtyard area when I see the boss mob yell "DING!". Turns out it was a GM who took manual control of the boss and knocked out everyone in the zone. He then global rezzed everyone.
Seriously, I loved those GMs.
There are many ways to get over the boss being too strong (or too weak if it's on purpose) if it's a human, whether it's by using:
- Partial control
Picking a set of skills, but the AI still decides when/who to do it on
- Appropriate cooldown/timers
What, you mean I can't just do 3 titan jumps in a row?
- Keeping Aggro targeting rules
Because otherwise tank's job becomes almost useless
- The system keeps track of damage
And if you're doing nothing, it goes back to AI, mocks you, and puts you in observer mode, noob :D
- Making all regular players look the same with no way to see their skills
Gotta work hard to find them healers
SE can figure it out, as long as I get to be a powerful gigantic primal! Muahahahahaha!
Now that I've played Rival Wings for a bit...I am actually even more intrigued by the suggestion.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
*MAKES PRIMAL RIGHT NOW*
