Please help me out by filling this survey out!
Hi everyone! I’ve been a long-time player (and roleplayer) in Final Fantasy XIV, and I’ve grown to love the game so much that I’m doing research on it!
For my Senior Seminar class, I started a project I’ve dubbed “A Beauty Reborn.” I’ve created a questionnaire that shouldn’t take too long to complete and mainly asks some basic questions about the playerbase.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, simply comment in this thread!
If you’re uninterested, please at least spread the word! I need all the help I can get!

As far as I know (and did my questionnaires for Uni projects), you definitely don't need characters' full names for it. In addition, you shouldn't demand a RL contact info.
The right way to appoint an interview without interfering with people privacy, would be mentioning your Discord in this thread and asking people who are willing to talk to contact you with a "for a research project" line in the contact request.
Announcing a raffle in your questionnaire, you biased the research as your participators base will lean from the very start to those interested in betting and free stuff.
Normally it's being paid to all or no one.
P.S.: I don't want to sound patronizing or dismissive in any way, but maybe you should talk to your professor/teacher as right now it looks more like a commercial representative trying to increase their clients base? -

I've already spoken to my professor about this several times, and they've given me the OK. Different genders = different beauty standards. People play different characters for different reasons. No one's going to be called out for their name or gender. These questions are left simple to expand on upon personal interview.

You can bypass the character limit by editing a post after posting.

I actually started playing FFXIV over two years ago for an English course, so I have a soft spot for these kinds of things, haha. Plus I'm super vain and love taking screenshots of my character.

The fantasia use is sort of glossed over, you don't ask any questions about why you use fantasia.

I don’t really care too much about asking for my character’s full name (I mean, it’s a virtual character)—I just had reservations about asking about my own name. Little too personal for a survey, which most research surveys are supposed to be anonymous. I used a nickname because I am curious as to what you’re going to do with this, but, for the future, probably best not to ask for the survey participant’s name.

There was a well known scam on another mmo I used to play (Ragnarok online) where a player would ask other people to fill out a questionnaire on another site. That site was a fishing site and people lost entire accounts and some even had real life data stolen... all for the promise of a reward for helping with their answers... so this is a hard pass for me

Honestly, i wouldn't trust this. This sort of scam found it's way onto the World of Warcraft server forums a year or so back. (The wording is very similar, only switch out WoW centric stuff for XIV stuff)

How can you get hacked with a discord account name? :thinking: Also, what use is knowing your player name? Just out of curiosity, what was the WoW scam asking for? I hardly doubt that knowing that Meow McFace of Malboro name is Mark is going to do anything that endangers that account.

And you're right, knowing the information he's asking for on the sheet here may not be any danger to anyone, but the whole thing reminded me enough of the thing from the WoW forums that i felt the desire to post about the similarity. I mean, if this is on the level and people only end up helping a University student, then that's great; and he'll only miss out on talking to a few people that chose to be cautious. -

It even doesn't have to be a serious scam like taking something from you - money or your account (even that it is theoretically possible if the mail you wrote in the questionnaire is your SE account mail, so they will know your characters and the associated e-mail).
Enough that some random person makes a base of FFXIV characters and associated e-mails, sells it to adv companies or uses by themselves to annoy you with more commercial spam. -

I have emails for surveys and crap stores want you to fill out/hound you about, emails for websites/social media, and then I have my personal emails I don’t share with anyone except important contacts/school.Quote:

Imagine that, being unable to get a diploma, after putting in so much work and effort already, because you failed this Seminar that was thrust upon you at the last minute, like our was.
