Hello everyone.
I'm italian (sorry for my bad english), i'm a old player of Squaresoft titles, like Xenogears, Final Fantasy Saga, Vagrant Story and others.
I've played Final Fantasy XI for 8 years and i don't think you can feel my pain for Final Fantasy XIV.
First all, about the earthquake, i hope everyone and everything is safe. ^^
I have to thank Mr. Akihiko Yoshida, Nobuo Uematsu, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Hiromichi Tanaka, Yasumi Matsuno and even Hironobu Sakaguchi (still hoping for Mist Walker news about the Europe :)) for all the masterpieces you've created in this years.
I play no more Final Fantasy XIV actually and i tell you why:
I think that there are only 3-ways for MMORPGs: Eve, Final Fantasy brand and World of Warcraft. Three different point of views and my favourite is Final Fantasy for sure. But why? I love the FF saga atmosphere, the feeling of the game, the visual art, background music and more. I totally love the world of Final Fantasy XIV (thank you Mr. Yoshida ;)), but it's empty: there's no NPC, no quests around the world. Grind-game are dead actually, you know.
I cannot wait 32 hrs for the same 8 quest,
i can't wait 30 minutes until i get the new crystal gate,
i can't play a PC game without the drag and drop system (@ 2011)
i can't play a MMORPG with the crazy retainer system
i can't play a MMORPG with a ripetitive rock background music while i have to run for 50 minutes around the empty world because i have to kill 2-3 mobs.
Return to Fantasy.

Should i remind you that Final Fantasy XIV is a PC game?
I'm very disappointed about the game, because i love FF' serie and the Square Dev team behind the title.
I'm still waiting for you and i hope you can make a true PC game as soon as possible.

The problem is, it isn't the S-E they used to be. Sakaguchi left years ago, Tanaka stepped down, many original core team members left after FFXIII finished. I'm not entirely sure what's going on over there, but it seems (in my completely subjective opinion) that quality has been slipping for some time. I was disappointed with FFXIV originally as well, but you can't deny the development team has been making strides in improving usability since launch, and more specifically, since Naoki Yoshida took over as director and producer.
Right now, FFXIV is in much the same state FFXI was at launch. Things will get better with time, and right now, they're not even charging, so it's not like it costs anything to stick around and see how it pans out. -

I think making a new post talking about why you dislike FFXIV wont help. Most of us don't care what you have to say because we know what wrong and we hear it again and again and again. How about making a topic about what you think ffxiv should have and how they could fix thing not why you think the game is bad. by the way you made your post playing ffxi that long see you don't have patience. I do guildleves and i get one level per day doing link leves with someone else. Top of that i'm only level 44 so it much faster then FFXI. In ffxi you had to be there for 3-6hours looking for party when in ffxi you could easy do guildleves or help others do it or just solo mobs vs waiting in ffxi where you had noting to do but wait.
FFXIV would get better it's just a matter of time so i think for now make topic on how ffxiv can become better not why you think the game is lame i think we all know this,. -

I feel you Morri-Xen. Nice music link too. I think Naoki Yoshida is going to remake the game into a 2011 game. He's played MMOs this whole time so I have hope for the future. Come back next year and see what he did! :)

I see where you are coming from and I can agree grinding is outdated, almost like a relic of the past.
In 2000 having a camera on your phone was a big deal, in 2005 having internet access on your phone was a big deal. in 2011 neither of those are a big deal and are almost considered standard features. In 2002-2003 an MMO depending on looooong grind sessions for its content was acceptable but as you said this is 2011. I dont want to pay premium price ($75 for the CE and $12.99 per month) for game play that has been outdated since Nov 23rd 2004.
I hope SE has changed their philosophy since they charged me full retail price for a game they KNEW and have admited since wasnt ready for retail and was barely ready for beta. Time will tell if they truely have or if they are just faking us out again like they did on Sept 30th. -

The OP hits it right on the nose, any denial of that after SE themselves have admitted to it is kinda dumb. That being said, it's all been said and, supposedly is being adressed. I think the important thing to keep in mind is that we need to invite people to give this game a second chance, not chase them off with snide remarks so that we feel better aboout ourselves. Like it or not we are gonna need alot more people playing this game if we want SE to keep pumping money into, and that means convincing more people to give the game time, not pointing out small, insignificant errors in their postings.

Uuuh... I miss so much Mr. Sakaguchi/Ito/Tanaka's title (FF serie, FFVI, FFIX), Mr. Takahashi (Xenogears, one of best game ever like Final Fantasy VI, IX and Vagrant Story) and Mr. Matsuno (FFTactics, FFXII part one, Vagran Story, Ogre) too.
Honestly, i think Uematsu can do something more too for FFXIV.
"Things" like >> this << , stay with us forever.
That's why i want to play a classic Final Fantasy title. A game that gives something more that just fun.
