The general lack of consideration in gear design for tails

I would have thought simply making the drape shorter (waist length) would have been a vast improvement. Although my honest opinion is that the drape is weird and this set would have looked so much better without the front and back drapes.

I have long given up on the devs adding in extra touches for tails, you stopped doing that very early on. But now you don't seem to care at all. If it looks fine on the Hyur it's fine and tail and ear races get absolutely no consideration. You got weird ears and tails, it's your fate to clip the hell out of everything.

Fine, let the tail clip through pants and skirts, but can the neglect stop somewhere reasonable?

SE has pretty much come out and set that they couldn't care less about clipping issues with gear. Personally I think it's shameful that they haven't implemented a proper physics system like, oh, most every other supposedly-AAA title I've played over the last several years, but you're right, the least they could do is take character tails / ears into consideration when designing gear.

Alas, I suspect they'll continue to cater to the players wanting more content rather than better content.

Some clipping in their system is unavoidable, which is why they don't really care....

But how can you make races with ear shapes and tails and not at least attempt to work with those.

This gear design however is definitely not friendly towards tails, mostly because the ....well its not a cape....but the back flap that makes the clipping worse.

Well after sooo many complain bug wise, housing, nerfing, clothing is probably lower on their to do list. Game designing and creating gear is not as easy as everyone thinks, It takes time and unless you do it you really don't know how much people grind their teeth over the dumbest of things and complains. Making a big deal over clipping issues that most people ignore or don't really affect game flow is just well...petty.

The sad part is that the ARR gear still retained little race specific details, I suspect the reason being that most of the equip came from 1.0 where they cared a great lot for such small details. Its rather disheartening to see such things getting lost.

Well if you haven't noticed, they clearly realize they should hide the ears on the hat, and takes the time to hide the ears. But no, they cannot make the drape/flip shorter on the back in the first place during concept design.

It shows that they have made a conscious decision to simply pretend tails don't exist when they design gear.

I'd say most people like variety, the people who complain about clipping are just nitpicking, I'd hate it if we only got 1-2 new looks per year just because they would have to test every single skin in every single possible scenario to keep patching it over and over.

Any game with characters with tails, there will always be clipping. The developers don't want to spend the time to fix or edit the armor even though it would probably be a simple fix. I have just come to ignore it, but I'm also used to games like GW2 where the Charr tails just clip though some gear as well. (then again a lot of armor doesn't have that problem in that game but I'm not going on about that.)

Though I agree they could at least try to do something, maybe put the tail under the coat or something.

Sadly don't have 4.1 dungeon equipment, but managed to try caster chest on.

My horns are slightly clipping with the collar and I'm fine with that since my hair is pretty much just going straight through it. :p

But tail clipping would have been easy to solve by shortening that "drape".

My character has a tail, horns, I see no big deal in it -.-. I'm too focus on actual game play then worrying about a fashion show. No offense I design as well and I want my work to be perfect. On the other hand when your boss is pressuring you and touch up becomes a side project I rather comeback to it when time allows than not meeting deadlines.

People talk about time and resource to fix it.

I'm talking about neglect. Ears and tails should be accounted for at the very start when the whole design was still on paper, or in the designer's head. You know the gear is going to go to these different races, you should be designing with the characteristics of these races in mind.

If I design a cloak, I know it's going to clip through tails. If I design a hat, I know it's going to clip through ears. I would be considering these body parts even before the modeling is done, when the whole thing is still in my head.

It doesn't take extra time to "fix" the thing, because the problem shouldn't have occurred in the first place.

I don't mind some clipping as long as we can pretend there's a hole there for the tail. It's fine when the gear surface is tight against the body. But it's not fine in this case with the not-cloak-drapy-flop-thingy that will cut across the tail when I move. The designer knew this would happen, yet insisted on making it long enough to cut across the tail.

What I'm talking about, is that in future when designing new gear, this kind of unreasonable clipping should be avoided as part of the design process in the first place.

You don't need to spend time and resources to fix something if you do it right the first time. It doesn't take testing all possible combinations of races and gear pieces to avoid this. It takes common sense. Just a little bit of common sense.

I do agree with this. They clearly take a lot of time with the ears (although I'm hearing mixed reviews with the horns). But the tails. The tails. I get that you can't just slap a hole there and call it a day with where tails are located but I feel that there could at least be something done about it. I love my miqo'te and I really think it's a shame that so many outfits clip like that. I loved old 1.0 design stuff and while I get that they don't have time for that if they can design so much new gear for every patch at least they could make some of it tail friendly?

In 1.0 my tail never clipped. At least not to this degree.

Some people are content with mediocrity. As a tail owner, this has bothered me ever since I started playing over 2 years ago

To be fair, it wouldn't take much to lift the tail slightly to minimize clipping issues with certain gear. They could at least put in some effort to avoid it since we have multiple races with tails and uniquely shaped ears.

I can definitely understand the frustration with tail clipping. A lot of the recent outfits released that I own (yes, a lot of them cash shop glams) have the issue with tail clipping. I can kind of ignore it if I don’t pay too much attention to it, and it helps that, when running, female Miqo’te tails sort of raise themselves up away from the body, so they don’t always clip as bad. But, one of my favorite dresses is the wedding gown, and the tail clips so bad. I would have hoped the devs would have used a bit of foresight when designing a more or less premium item, considering there was a race with a tail when the Eternal Bond was released (and now, we have two).

I also miss when the devs would give gear for female Miqo’te or Au Ra little bows over the tails. ;_; Those were so cute, and I’ve noticed a distinct lack of them in recent gear. My character wants her butt-bows back! ;_;

While I've seen a (very) few outfits that this would work for, there's so much clipping (my tail goes through the back satchel on the striking top from Skalla) that you'd pretty much have to hide the tail in most outfits. I'm very much not okay with them deciding that the way to deal with clipping issues for a main racial feature of my character is to hide said feature. I didn't make a hyur, I made a miqo'te.

I get that not everybody sees this as an issue, just like not everybody cares about glamour, not everybody cares about housing, etc. But it's still pretty disappointing design.

One of my pet peeves in Guild Wars 2 was any armor pieces/sets that had the tail of my Charrs clipping through them. That game made me adverse to playing a race with a tail. Needless to say, I've stuck with Hyur ever since I started playing here. :p

For me in 1.0 at launch my tail clipped with everything that wasn't skin tight. It was in a lot of ways worse than it is now. Even later as a whm there was actually a strip of the af skirt missing in the back in order to keep it from clipping for Miqo'te. One of the things they changed in the transition to 2.0 was where tails naturally hung and rested to try and cut down on clipping (they rest a little farther away from the body now). I agree that it is baffling that SE doesn't take ears/tails/horns into account at the design phase for gear (or hairstyles for that matter), but they never have so I don't have any real hope that they will change

Am I the only person on the face of Eorzea who genuinely isn't bothered with this whole clipping thing? O.o And I am a cat. Clipping is something that happens in nearly every game, atleast to some extend (as far as I know atleast). I don't know any better.

Clipping can and always will happen, but they have two tailed races (one with horns). It's not inexcusable that they don't design the gear with these races in mind but it is lazy; The phrase "measure twice, cut once" doesn't just apply to carpentry.

SQE has also shown that they can hide the tails on outfits that they want (such as the wolf body, that hides the miqo'te tail); So they can hide the tails on bigger robe outfits that would make clipping too unsightly.

Clipping isn't a big thing on itself, but it's a thing that a little extra time in design could make this not even a problem. Even if it's a "from this point forward" it'd be appreciated.

Obviously not, but others just move on and don't waste their time replying on threads they don't really care about. The forum doesn't have a disagree button, so devs will judge interest on a topic based on that. Tail clipping is and will stay a minority topic, and we all know that. :)

lots of things they do so good. other things aren't even a care. That's because MR Y, took over the game and got stuck with the RACES... and I don't think he cares about the race that has the highest population.
