Job Idea: Time Mage (DPS)

*Please note, this was designed purely for fun and I do NOT expect SE to implement it in any way, shape, or form.*

Time Mage (TMM)
Utility DPS with Magic and Physical DPS
Weapon: Bladed-Chronometer, Large, wrist-mounted dials Time Mages use to both control the flow of time and slash enemies with.
Attack Type: Slash, Close-Range
Armor: Caster
Limit Break: Melee
Cross Role: Caster
Important Stats: INT for Damage (Both Magical and Physical), MP for Magic Cost, TP for Physical Cost
Inspiration: Time Mages in general, Tidus from X and Dissidia, Psychic from X-2, Exorcist from Bravely Second

Tapping into the very fabric of the universe, Time Mages manipulate the flow of battle to their advantage via their Time Magick.
Time Magick main focus is to either effect the time of a subject or effect through means like speeding it up, slowing it down, returning it to a previous state, or even amalgamating past and future events.
While powerful, Time Magicks require tremendous amounts of aether to preform.
To collect aether, Time Mages use their Chronometers as melee weapons to absorb aether from targets and store it as either Forward or Reverse Aether.
While attacking in close range, Time Mages can cause their enemy's time to repeat, resulting in them to be repetitively being hit by the same attack two, three, or even four times.

Special Mechanics
Forward and Reverse Aether
As Time Mages battle, they collect aether in their chronometers to allowing them to either speed up or undo the flow of time.
Aether collected to speed up time is called Forward Aether, while aether collected to reverse time is Reverse Aether.
The user can only hold two stacks of either Aether type at a time. Any newly gained Aether will replace the oldest one.
Aether dissapears when changing locations.

Multi-Strikes
While auto-attacking or using weaponskills, Time Mages have the chance to repeat a hit on an enemy up to three additional times times.
With their Double-Strike trait, they have a 50% chance that every time they auto-attack or use a weaponskill, their selected target will revive additional damage equal to 50% of the original damage.
With Triple-Strike and Quadra-Strike, the user has a 25% chance of getting a third and fourth hit that does damage equal half of the previous strike.

Special Gauge(s): Chronometer
The gauge is an ornate time dial that shows the what types of aether the user currently has.
Forward Aether are represented as an orange arrow pointing right and Reverse are a blue arrow pointing left.

Skills, Spells, and Abilities

Time Magick that uses Special Aether
- Comet: Spell. Uses up 1 Forward Aether. Damage a selected target and all enemies within 5 yalms of them. Potency of 100. Instant cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.
- Pressurize: Spell. Uses up 1 Reverse Aether. Damage a selected target for 18 seconds. Potency of 50. Instant cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.
- Undo: Spell. Uses up 2 Reverse Aether. Place a Regen-effect on the user for 21 seconds. Additionally, heal all partymembers with in 7 yalms of the user equal to the amount of each Regen tic. Potency of 200. 2.5 second cast time. 120 second recast.
- Blink: Ability. Uses up 1 Forward Aether and 1 Reverse Aether. Places a barrier on a selected partymember that will absorb the next auto-attack done onto them. Afterwards, the effected will be immune to Blink's effect for 200 seconds. Instant cast time. 200 second cooldown.
- Chronos: Ability. Uses up 1 Forward Aether and 1 Reverse Aether. For 9 seconds, the caster's Dual-Strike Trait is extended to the auto-attacks of all partymembers with in 8 yalms of the user. Afterwards, all partymembers (excluding the user) will be immune to Chronos's effect for 420 seconds. Instant cast time. 420 second cooldown.
- Decelerate: Ability. Uses up 1 Reverse Aether. For 15 seconds, increase the chance of landing a Double-Strike, Triple-Strike, and Quadra-Strike by 15% on a selected target. Instant cast time. 120 second cooldown.
- Hasten: Ability. Uses up 1 Forward Aether. Increase the user's Skill Speed, Spell Speed, and Evasion by 10% for 30 seconds. Instant cast time. 60 second cooldown.
- Hastega: Ability. Uses up 1 Forward Aether. Can only be used with in 10 seconds after the user uses Haste. Remove the user's Haste effect and grant all partymemebers with in 15 yalms of them a 5% increase to Skill Speed and Spell Speed for 30 seconds. Instant cast time. 120 second cooldown.
- Quicken: Ability. Uses up 2 Forward Aether. Can only be used with in 10 second after the user uses Haste. Remove the user's Haste effect and, for 20 seconds, decrease the Cooldown time of a selected partymember by 40%. Afterwards, the affected will be immune to Quicken's effects for 180 seconds. Instant cast time. 180 second recast.
- Scan: Ability. Uses up 1 Reverse Aether. For 10 seconds, increase Damage done onto a selected target by 10%. Instant cast time. 60 second cooldown.

Weaponskills and Physical Abilities
- Spiral Cut: Weaponskill. Damage a selected target. Potency of 150. Instant cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.
- Quick Attack: Weaponskill. Damage a selected target. Potency of 100. Instant cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.
Combo: Spiral Cut > Quick Attack: Potency of 150. Grant the user 1 Forward Aether.
- Delay Attack: Weaponskill. Damage a selected target. Potency of 100. Instant cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.
Combo: Spiral Cut > Delay Attack: Potency of 150. Grant the user 1 Reverse Aether.
- Hit & Run: Ability. Uses up 1 Reverse Aether. Damage a selected target, then leap away 10 yalms. Grant the user 1 Forward Aether. Potency of 100. Instant cast time. 30 second cooldown. Shares a cooldown with Slice & Dice.
- Slice & Dice: Ability. Uses up 1 Forward Aether. Rush to a selected target from up to 15 yalms away and damage them. Grant the user 1 Reverse Aether. Potency of 100. Instant cast time. 30 second cooldown. Shares a cooldown with Hit & Run.

Offensive Spells and Magical Abilities
- Banish: Spell. Can only be used after a comboed Quick Attack or Delay Attack. Damage a selected target. Potency of 240. Instant cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.
- Compression: Spell. Damage a selected target and all enemies with in 5 yalms of them. Grants the user 1 Forward Aether. Potency of 200. Instant cast time. 10 second cooldown.
- Deteriorate: Spell. Deal damage to a selected target over 21 seconds. Potency of 40. 2.5 second cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.
- Energy Rain: Spell. Can only be used after a comboed Quick Attack or Delay Attack. Damage a selected target and all enemies with in 5 yalms of them. Additionally, leaves a 5-yalm Area-of Effect for 15 seconds that will damage all enemies that stand in it. Potency of 25, 45 for the Damage-over-time. Instant cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.
- Pain: Spell. Can only be used after Spiral Cut. Damage a selected target. Potency of 100. Instant cast time. 2.5 second cooldown.

Other Spells and Abilities
- Balance: Spell. Cost MP equal to 5% of the user's Maximum MP. Restore 300 TP to a selected target. Additionally, for 12 seconds, the caster is immune to MP-Refreshing effects (not including the user's natural MP regeneration). 2.5 second cast time. 120 second cooldown.
- Accelerate: Ability. Grant the user 1 Forward Aether. Instant cast time. 90 second cooldown.
- Express: Ability. The next Weaponskill or Physical Ability that grants the user either a Forward Aether or Reverse Aether will grant the user 2 of that Aether type. If the user already had 1 or 2 Aethers, these two new Aethers will replace them. Duration: 15 seconds. Instant cast time. 180 second cooldown.
- Mana Shield: Ability. Can only be used with in 10 seconds after the user uses Haste. Remove the user's Haste effect and place a barrier on all partymembers with in 10 yalms of the user that will absorb damage equal to 25% of the user's Maximum MP. Duration: 10 seconds. Instant cast time. 200 second cooldown.
- Momentum: Ability. For 20 seconds, increase the user's damage dealt by 2%. Additionally, for ever Critical Hit the affected lands, increase their damage dealt by an additional 2% (caps at 20%). Instant cast time. 80 second cooldown.
- Time Slip: Ability. Switches the user's most recently gained Aether stack to the opposite type. Instant cast time. 120 second cooldown.

Traits
1. Double-Strike: Every time the user auto-attacks or use a Weaponskill or Physical Ability, there is a 50% chance that the selected target will receive additional damage equal to 50% of the original damage.
20. Enhanced Intelligence: Increase INT by 8
20. Maim and Mend: Increases base action damage and HP restoration by 10%
36. Triple-Strike: Every time Double-Strike activates, there is a 25% chance that the selected target will receive additional damage equal to 50% of the Double-Strike's.
40. Enhanced Intelligence II: Increase INT by 16
40. Maim and Mend II: Increases base action damage and HP restoration by 30%
50. Quadra-Strike: Every time Triple-Strike activates, there is a 25% chance that the selected target will receive additional damage equal to 50% of the Triple-Strike's.
60. Enhanced Intelligence III: Increase INT by 24
66. Time Stream: Whenever the user successfully activates Double-Strike, Triple-Strike, and/or Quadra-Strike, there is a 50% chance that Haste's cooldown will decrease by 5 seconds.

Astrologian is technically our Time Mage.

Did you guys even read the thread though? This job sounds absolutely nothing like AST that we have, and while AST is similar to traditional time mages, they are more focused on celestial magic, and fortune telling...

The job created in this thread, while not being a traditional time mage in any sense, is far more 'time magic' themed than AST could ever be with its current skill set.

The only spells AST has that could be considered time magic, are Lightspeed and Time dilation. The rest of the spells are all space/star themed. AST Does have Gravity, which was always a time mage spell, but it fits more with Astrologions them of space magic.

Then you have its card system which is based around fortune telling, which has commonly been attributed to constellations and zodiac signs.

Time Mages are also more than simply mages that influence time and use gravity spells. To wit:

While not so at first, spells like Meteor fell into the dominion of Time Mages. This means spells like Malefic actually resemble Time Magic as it technically attacks with stellar power.
If you take into account the Time Magic ability Chronos then you tie in both Time Dilation and Celestial Opposition in the fact that they increase the duration of beneficial effects they placed on themself/allies.
While not technically the same thing, The Arrow card is as close to a Haste spell as we are probably ever gonna get.

It is true AST lacks a lot that Time Mage has, but at the same time what more is there to give it? Blink and Reflect might be a little OP in this game as an example. Also Meteor is already taken by Limit Break 2 for Caster DPS, so that's out. Comet would be a lot like Malefic so no reason to add that. Would be nice if we got Slow but then we'd need Haste as well to make it more fitting, which won't happen since we have The Arrow. What AST lacks though Square Enix decided to fill with another job altogether lol but I digress.

Also if you think about it, don't the stars and fortune telling also relate to time? After all, you are reading the Past, Present, and Future.

A time mage would be awesome... whenever people bring it up, it reminds me of that anime Madoka Magica and the character Homura who basically was a time mage.

Because I can remember that during the AST introduction they described the job as the FF XIV version of Time Mage.

He talked about how it was considered back when they were choosing jobs to add to SB in a interview with Dualshockers back when patch 3.5 part 2 came out:
Of course, there other jobs were considered: when thinking of magic you might think of Time Mage, which could have been a good candidate, but of course there was a very high demand for Red Mage...

There was also mention of Geomancer in the Astro questline. Both Time Mage and Geo are too similar in a way to Astro to warrant these jobs being added i think, i would much rather have Dancer and maybe Blu be implemented.

I think is already in the game. Astrologian is a mixture between a Time Mage and a Gambler. We can consider the Astrologian as a Time Mage, even the artifact job gear in Heavensward is based on the classic Final Fantasy Time Mage suit. One of their iconic spells is on Astrologian arsenal, Gravity (Called Demi in some games). Also, thye have capacity of manipulate time-space with some spells and cards, like The Arrow card, Time Dilatation, Gravity, Ligthspeed...

I don't even know why I bother posting these job ideas here anymore. Most people just read the title and post the same sentences. =w=
I designed this for fun and to see if I could make Time Mage work in this game and not play like Astrologian.
Yes, I am aware that thematically, Time Mage and Astrologian are similar. That doesn't mean you can't differentiate them through gameplay.
It's annoying to see that people just come into a thread and don't even bother to read the actual post. They just want to belch their opinion based on the title and not actually discuss the subject at hand... =A=

There's a bit more to Time Mage than Gravity and Haste.

I'm not trying to deny the fact that AST do has some Time Magic, but that's it. It just has "some".

The AST doesn't feel like a Time Mage at all. I can't even recall a single game where Time Mage was a considered a healer. It's always been an offensive support with access to a regain spell at most.

Time Mage has too much of a strong identity to be ignored by SE. Like other "core" job such as Blue Mage for instance, it just a matter of time before they include it in the game.

You also forget Celestial Opposition, which is about as close as it'll get in the game to any Stop spell in terms of gameplay mechanics (boss doesn't move or attack, buffs get extended, so it's as if time from the enemy perspective looks like time got stalled a few seconds).

The loose consideration that is used for the "it's a Time Mage" argument is that Time Mage is effectively an Astrologian on steroids, much like how any sort of necromancer is effectively a Black Mage on steroids. It's also understood that Time Mage as a standalone concept of just buffs wouldn't work in this game due to the necessity of it being forced into a trinity role. The question then is whether or not Time Mage can be implemented with enough of its identity present while still appearing distinguished from its star-crossed counterpart. Shockingly enough, this wouldn't be the first case where the two jobs were in the same game, as Bravely Second also presented both Astrologian and Time Mage in the same game with completely separate identities.

Could that be done in this game? Definitely. Much like how Black and White Mages are presented in lore as two sides of the same coin, Astrologians and Time Mages could be presented in a similar fashion, perhaps with an added flair of school rivalry in one of their stories. A better real-world analogy would be to compare Astrology to geometry and Time Magic to calculus: two very different paths, perhaps one more difficult than the other, yet still leading to the same intellectual destination. I even made sure that would be consistently displayed when I made my concept for Time Mage.

Does the concept proposed by the OP provide that required degree of separation? Although I'm not quite sure of some minor elements of the concept such as why it requires melee and the use of older advanced spell terminology (i.e. Hastega rather than Haste II for this game), this concept still does present itself as a viable case that Time Mage could exist in FFXIV even with the presence of Astrologian and the handful of iconic elements it has "borrowed" from the job.

Roles weren't that much enforced on earlier FF games (except on Tactics series, where classes had some sort of focus on its role).

For instance, on FFIX there were a blend of Summoner and White Mage, where Time Magic was distributed between Dagger, Eiko and Vivi. Yes, Vivi. Basically, while Dagger/Eiko were capable of recovering the party's HP, they could deliever the same damage as any DPS would do (up to 9999), like Zidane, Freya or Vivi.

The use of melee came from a mixture of using Tidus from X as my main inspiration and jumping point for the concept and also wanting to make a job that integrates melee and spells together more (versus RDM, who mainly casts spells and uses melee as a finisher).

As for the name Hastega, I did it partly because of the lore in Great Gubal Library that said that originally, spells used a similar naming convention in Sharlayan before there was a vote deciding to change it. I thought it would give a more anachronistic feel to it. I also did it as a nod to the older naming convention.

Tidus wasn't really a Time Mage though so much as a swordsman built around speed (Haste/Slow were just to compliment that style). In fact, Time Mage as a melee didn't make much sense to me until looking over how they were in XII.

As for the reasoning for older naming conventions, did you really have to use the word "anachronistic" in referring to Time Mage? xD

While Tidus isn't a Time Mage, he did have elements of time manipulation on his part of the Sphere Grid (Haste/Hastega, Slow/Slowaga, Delay Attack/Buster, and Quick Hit).
Like with my Blue Mage Healer concept, I thought it could be interesting to link it more to a character verses trying to create a job that is an amalgamation of several iterations, like how jobs seem to be usually made in XIV. Especially for Time Mage, who is generally just a buff-heavy caster. I thought going a traditional caster route would make it too similar to AST and maybe even BLM and/or SMN.

I'd play it. So long as it doesn't have positionals... I'm so sick of positionals on melee.

It depends on how you set up their toolkit. The Time Mage concept I did was a traditional caster, but it worked around a time bomb mechanic that would stack up on a mob whenever you reset the duration on a general dot, a "fast forward" ability that would make the time bomb explode and remove the general dot to deal its sum total damage, and a gateway spell that would work like two-way teleport ability. The end result was a caster more specialized in mobility and dot/debuff juggling fairly different from SMN with a more gear-based aesthetic like the Time Mage of the Bravely Series.
