PLEASE BUFF PIETY STAT

As someone who doesn't main healer but tank I can obviously see Piety stat is... Not good aside from mana battery for more heals... just make it so it affects both attack AND healing magic potency as well as Direct Hit rate stat so that Piety doesn't look as bad for healers...

I meld piety first, crit second.

Or the other way around. I forgot.

But do you mind being a mana battery for more heals in panic situations...?

That wouldn't be too bad, I guess. But even doing one thing, it's already so weak. Even if you decide "I want more MP for emergency situations."... a piety 6 materia gives you what, 100~110 ish mp? Cure costs 600, regen 840, cure 2 1200.... res is 3600... yeah, piety doesn't go very far.

Making it a multirole stat... they would also have to make the bonuses it provides actually decent numberwise to make it competitive...

Sometimes you gotta prepare for the inevitable second coming of Gordias META...

I wouldn’t mind a tweak to Piety to make it useful beyond the low minimum required to function. Healer gear alone gives more MP than anyone should ever need outside of the worst of (actually survivable) emergencies.

I like being able to ignore piety. I actually don't want a hard choice between which materia will benefit me most. I want to be a strong healer and making every materia useful to the point of needing a graphing calculator to weigh the risks and rewards is a hell I don't wanna live through.

It's no big deal. Just would be nice if they start making Savage-level Genji gear and weapons not include the "mandatory" PIE on everything.

Every tier the raid healer weapons are PIE/Crit, PIE/DET, PIE/SpS. Unfortunately one healer gets stuck with the low-ball two stats (WHM, Genji Cane this tier).

You figure those clearing O4S regularly can handle their PIE load and mix-match accordingly. If we got more weapons and chests that are Crit/Det, Crit/SpS it would be a little more useful instead of PIE+something else everywhere.

I was a little surprised to finally see a tank weapon without Tenacity, the Shinryu Axe of all things.

I can see Piety acting like Tenacity. While Tenacity is both damage and mitigation increasing stat, Piety can be both MP and healing increasing stat. Either that or make Piety increase MP regen as well as max MP.

I have no problem with the stat as it is now.

But I wouldn't mind if it could be like tenacity.
You wouldn' want to avoid it like today when you reached a certain cap when you think you don't need extra piety.

Would be interesting if they added an extra effect to piety, call it something like devoted cure, it would basically be direct hit but for healing, the higher your piety the higher the chance for it to proc. Since direct hit doesn't effect heals it would be cool to have a similar effect for healing linked to the healer specific stat.

Refresh is main reason why piety is useless stat. Before it was dps loss sing mana song unlike current mana regen buff not hurt anybody.

A heal direct hit would be very nice

As long as you're okay with the small amount it will probably give, maybe they should try it. In the end it wouldn't make much difference either way.

I just took notice of exactly how influential Piety is, and I am honestly not amused. Piety is near-worthless entirely. Collectively it seems alright but individually... For example:

Lv70 White Mage has a base Piety of 292 and thus a base max MP of 14880. When Piety is raised to 1310 though max MP becomes 18370. Seems like a lot right? Well, it really isn't. To wit: Remove say 103 Piety from that and you lose a mere 353 MP.

So in short yes Piety definitely needs a buff to be more worth actually investing in like Direct Hit Rate and Tenacity are. At the very least increase how much MP it offers...

It does. MP regen is a percentage of your max MP.

Natural MP regen, yes, approximately 2% per tick. So over the course of a 10 minute fight, an extra 100 MP equates to 100 MP (base MP bonus) + an extra 400 MP from regen, assuming no overflow. I do not believe that Lucid Dreaming or other refresh effects are dependent on max MP, though, which is an interaction I'd actually like to see.

Refresh effects don't, no. Assize and Aetherflow do.

Piety's biggest issue right now is that running out of MP just doesn't happen that often unless you need to raise a lot of people. If you have enough MP, more MP isn't doing anything.

I'm MP limited in dungeons for a good third of each run usually =(

If you're MP limited that much in dungeons, it's almost certainly because of your offensive spells. In which case, stats that boost your damage are going to be more useful than the tiny boost in MP you can get from piety.

I agree with this entirely: Perhaps treat it more like the Tank's Tenacity stat: Piety could be what it is while also working like a weaker version of Det.

As far as stat weights go for me:
WHM - SS, Det, Crit
AST - Det, Crit, SS (Nocturnal) SS, Det, Crit (Diurnal)
SCH - Crit, Det, SS

That being said, I can only think of one class that actually would get use from this stat currently: AST.

AST has the WORST mana management. Ewer pales in comparison to thin air, assize, aether flow, & energy drain.

I could work with 0 piety on any gear and I'd be just fine.

WHM has Thin Air for instances where AOE healing would be used more than once in a 12 second window, Assize for 10% mana recovery every 48 seconds which can be reduced a further.

SCH has a Aetherflow every 30-45 seconds, and energy drain.

Meanwhile, AST has Ewer. If you have a BRD/MCH/RDM/BLM/SMN on your team, call for a shift/refresh and you're golden.

TL;DR - Piety needs a buff

Exactly that.

Whilst my testing is very unscientific (Just lots and lots of roulette logs), stacking Pie+Crit just about scrapes me enough MP for an extra holy in the final stretches before each boss. Switching out for Det was generally fine unless I was carrying the DPS. Crit + SS was just unworkable for me. If I took along DPS that were good, it was workable but if the DPS was anything less than that, I was out of gas and cooldowns within the second pull. Not a good situation for any dungeon with more drawn out trash.

Keep in mind tho, I believe that I push my dungeon DPS a lot harder than most averaging 3.8k start to finish in temple for example.

I agree with everything you say here, but want to add that AST has Celestial Opposition to extend their Lucid Dreaming effect (and Ewer if planned properly and they REALLY need MP). While not as evident as Assize and Aetherflow's additional effects, it at least makes it a bit more manageable for an AST instead of just eating their Ewer cards.

AST spells are inherently less expensive than similar WHM and SCH spells, which mitigates their need for MP restoration. Lucid Dreaming alone is fine for pretty much everything, especially since it can be extended a full 10 seconds longer by Celestial Opposition if so aligned (as WayofTime points out above). I don't consider Ewer much at all unless multiple rezzes have been required and the opportunity happens to present itself; 99% of the time I burn it for Royal Road in 8-man parties or convert it to Minor Arcana.

SpS is fine to prioritize if that's your preference, but I'd consider playing around with your stat distribution to see if your playstyle might benefit more from placing a greater weight in Det and Crit. The math doesn't really support SpS as a stat for healers to purposefully stack; while it can benefit offensive spells, the benefit to healing is limited to HoT effects. Also, the benefit to DPS is somewhat less if your increased SpS runs you too low on MP at any time, as Sebazy describes.

Somewhat back to the original topic, I still think Piety is somewhat garbage and would not recommend that anyone actively stack it.
