4.1 Patch Notes Show Us an Unfortunate Truth about the Dev Team

Changes to dragoon make no sense. They are trying to make a brainless class easier to play.
Lack of monk changes, despite thread after thread after thread FOR 2 YEARS shows they either aren't reading the forums (which would mean they are blatantly lying to us) or don't give a fuck what we think.
Lack of useful summoner changes show they are more prone to knee-jerk reactions than actual thoughtful adjustments. They nerf Ruin 3 damage and make a spell consolidation that NOBODY asked for, ignoring the many fundamental problems with 4.X summoner that EVERYONE has been repeating (attunement/aetherflow consolidation problem, heavy death punishment, flawed Bahamut AI, etc)
Warrior Shake It Off change shows the are willing and able to make complete and total reworks for abilities, EVEN ONES THEY'VE JUST RELEASED, so there's nothing preventing them from fixing monk and summoner.

They spend more time working on the trials and raids, which would be fine.

How is one expected to enjoy a good movie if their seat is made out of thorns?
How is one expected to enjoy these trials and raids if the class they want to play is poorly designed and not enjoyable to play?

The Devs don't care about the players anymore. They only care about their internal ideals about the game. This is how a multiplayer game kills itself.

Honestly, I'm moderately offended by the Shake it off change, but I'm apparently the only one, because I liked being able to instantly remove a debuff instead of waiting for a healer to do it (funny how they suddenly became more proactive about that the moment that it stopped being important IE berserk).

The shield is not something I want. Unlike Divine Veil, I'm actively sacrificing my cooldowns to buff the party, and savage content ATM doesn't really give me that leeway.

Lack of direction, and Identities for Healers, Monk, Drk, Mch, Smn.

Does everything need to be nerfed or buffed? No but seriously all they have seriously learned to do is copy/paste/add/subtract and say its fixed. We are basically in the same meta as 3.x with the only exception being Paladin is in it now..
Real balance... can't wait to see how the new 5.0 jobs are handled. We still don't have a Caster Comp its just physical this and that bleh.

Would be great if the shield was changed to 4% base, and STILL have the ability to remove debuffs, and every debuff removed also counts towards the 4% bonus on the shield.
Then WAR would be darn near perfect.

Do we even know that th e ruin 3 potency nerf a net gain or a loss we don't know yet

Given that examples are not a demonstration, it still gives you an idea.

The same about drg : when you just read it you think buff, but it's actually a -1% with the change on Heavy, only the change on eyes gives more Nastronds and turn it into a +1 or 2%

Are theyfixing the "bahamut won't cast ankh mon if we move" bug with this patch or still a "we're planning to in 4.x patch"

If you think it was only the 4.1 patch notes that showed this, you haven't been paying attention. Remember AST in 3.4? SCHs do...

Alas no.

There were 5 major problems and some minors. They adressed two of the minors (Devotion and Sustain) and two of the majors (MP dump, Ruin system) and very partly one (death) but left the other two alltogether untouched (lockouts, Bahamut IA).

In short : SMN will be less punitive, but still won't "flow" as it used to in HS

Depends on the situation, but I can think of a few use cases:

O1S Twin Bolt into Double Roar, wait for the bolt to go off; shake it off and everyone has roar protection (including yourself), then reprisal the 2nd roar
O1S Twin Bolt into Lightning, wait for bolt to go off, shake it off and everyone has mitigation on lightning

O2S Evilsphere, mitigated, tank swap, shake it off for your co-tank taking the next paranormal wave
O2S Long drop, pop RI or Thrill, shake it off and give everyone a shield for the drop; you'll still have plenty of mitigation for upcoming paranormal waves and evilsphere

O3S Giants, pop thill of battle; shake it off and give everyone a shield for the 4x dimensional waves coming out

O4S Exdeath, open with RI+shake it off for the people that always stand in blizzard
O4S Exdeath, during dualcast thunder 3, RI, holmgang, wait until gang is about gone, then shake it off, rampart (for the auto) and everyone should have a shield for fire
O4S Exdeath, during meteor throw away thrill in favor of extra mitigation

O4S Neo open with RI, shake it off to give everyone 12% shield on almagest, vengeance the aero 3

O1-O3S any time you don't have Thrill, Vengeance, RI or IB up - free 8% shield for the party

Before the change to shake it off:
O1S: Oops, got greedy and took a fire - debuff, shake it off - no effect
O2S: People forgot their ups & downs - debuff, shake it off - no effect
O3S: Someone was slow in breaking vines, someone missed the game - debuff, shake it off - no effect
O4S: .... Get the point now? Shake it off was useless.

If your healer left a debuff on you it's because:
A.) You shouldn't have gotten it in the first place, wear the badge of shame until it falls off normally
B.) It's not something that requires removing (healing/damage down or DoT that won't cause a wipe), so they'll get to it later or let it fall off normally
Sorry you can't stand in bad breath during aurum vale anymore; but it's a much better tool now.

I agree with you, DRG needed some love. The 3 eye change and potenty being shoved around was a welcome change. Big woop on losing 5% when everything else gets increased.
We get more burst windows in a fight, which is an overall buff. Less of a loss if we lose the eyes due to mechanics.

The HT change is PR. To balance the DPS back, just pulling numbers of potency values will go down less well than putting potencies up and taking the damage from Heavy Thrust, an already unpopular ability.

DRG easier? lolnope, do you even play drg?

A little less punishing if you die, but that's it. Actually they made lotd activation less intuitive.

DRG is fine, MNK is fine, SMN is fine.

If you don't enjoy playing a job just maybe you shouldn't play it, you can try other jobs instead of complain with non-sense reasons.

And when people write things like "My job is not meta...fix it pls..." fuck you...who cares about meta.

OP claims "NOBODY," asked for the SMN Ruin changes, however I saw plenty of requests for this, my own request included. I'm ecstatic they changed it so that Ruin III is now your go-to spell instead of Ruin I.

Calm your tits. Yup, the battle design team is making a mediocre job on this patch. But everything else QoL/content/UI/AI wise is pretty solid. It seems that they focused their resources on these kind of solutions, rather than focusing on job balances which ain't the priority for now. Yes, I'm still mad at the monk issue, but I'm being a tad positive, and we'll just have to wait for them to check their game data and see how players are using the new stuff they implemented on jobs. The thread's title is pretty harsh and making a poor assumption.

Summoner flows really well, imo. The problem is, it requires thought.

Everything you do is locked behind Aetherflow, so you'll be working in 60 second increments and within said increments you flow through 2-3 phases, Rouse.. DWT.. Bahamut. Once you understand that the class flows extremely well and works in ~20 second increments.

Summoner also is currently the 2nd highest DPS at the 50-99% range in FFLogs, with only Samurai above it. If you include the raid dps increase via Radiant Shield, a 2% phys damage debuff that potentially lasts 24 seconds and is on a 60 second cooldown, and the raidwide Devotion buff (2% for 15 seconds on a 2 minute CD) they are easily ahead of Samurais in DPS. They also are MUCH more mobile than BLM and arguably RDM (Dualcast makes every other cast instant whereas SMNs can make use of ruin 2 at what is now only a 30 potency loss compared to 50 before via Ruin 3), do better damage than BLM and RDM, have better utility than BLM and RDM (BLM virtually none, while the rDPS increase Devotion, Contagion, and Radiant Shield bring outweighs those that Embolden brings), and can also resurrect allies now that we are overflowing with MP every 60 seconds because Swiftcast is no longer needed to use a Ruin 4 proc during Bahamut phase... 1 rez a minute should be fine if your group knows the fight.

In other words, SMN flows very well if you understand the class, has the best DPS and utility of all the casters by a solid margin... ESPECIALLY if you take into account their rdps increase via said utility, AND is very mobile. I don't understand why people are continuing to complain about Summoner. Even before 4.1 SMN was in a great spot, but now? Geez man we are insane.

The reason they didn't change MNK for 3.x is bc it is playing exactly how they want it to play. The Summoner changes made the class flow better but didn't really make it less complex, yes. DRG got harder for experts but easier for bads who let HT fall off. And comparing Shake it Off, a defensive cooldown, to an entire dps class proves you have no idea what you're talking about.. One is significantly easier to balance than the other.

What really shows is them not listening is the 100000 page DRK problems thread in the tank section being entirely ignored.

Had to laugh at the notion of Dragoon being braindead, probably one of the only classes that requires planning things out over 40 seconds ahead of time....while classes like Samurai require essentially zero planning and have no personal cooldowns to line up. I don't think the DRG changes were necessary but that is a different argument than the class being braindead

My static really enjoyed the new shake it off, made Neo a lot easier to heal during GCO and during the end of the encounter

Job Balances is the unofficial subtitle for Stormblood the expansion. Revamping the battle system inherently suggests needing reworks and fixes for all jobs. This is not complicated in the least, so anyone saying "get over it", "play another job", or "stop complaining" can just see themselves out right now.

The fact that the Devs are applying fixes that are out of touch with player desires is definitely an issue, but the unfortunate caveat of this fact is that many players cannot speak with any real authority on how classes should be fixed because a large number of casual players think that classes are fine since they are not experiencing the frustrations of high-end play.

Lastly, if the Devs would just give in and allow a test server with select players to test before implementation, it would save LOADS of headache on the playerbase and on the Devs themselves in the long run. The current rollout cycle that is locked in before feedback can even be given is highly inefficient.

Very true. I certainly haven't seen what is going on at the high-end of play.

Anyways, I just popped in to say your idea of SE having a test server open to a select group of experienced players would be a big step in the right direction for Final Fantasy XIV. Gaining the insight of expert players on such topics as dungeons, crafting, raiding, questing, class game play, and class balance would help Square Enix put out a better product all around.

Um, what? How is drg brainless? It has two 4 button combos w/ positionals. That's already more complicated than most jobs in the game. It also has 2 separate rotations that have to be done at the same time. GCD & oGCD. You want to tell the difference between a master and casual drg? Ask them what their oGCD rotation is, because a good drg has to be aware of this rotation to line up their times.

You forgot about DRK...

What you said about DRG is false they did an excellent job this patch it wasn’t easy and very punishing but now that it only requires 3 stacks LOTD is actually something to look forward to having more than 2-3 times in a fight....more up time is well worth the HT and potency bump balancing

You seem to be under the impression that this game isn't a service we pay for. The fact of the matter is, we do pay for this game. It doesn't matter if the devs are happy with the way a job plays if the majority of the playerbase of that job is unhappy about it, then the devs have failed. We pay their paycheck, this isn't some passion project they're working on for free that we're reaping the benefits of. If people are pissed that Monk hasn't changed since ARR, the devs should fix it. If people think the new actions on Monk are lazily designed, the devs should fix them.
