Sustain is BAAAAACK come 4.1. Titan San can tank again!
Not really since when you use bahamut, your pet aggro is reset. Not to mention how easy it is to pull off of titan
I'm going to be that guy and say that I thought Sustain was useless. I never really found a situation that it was a game changing skill to have.
I used Sustain all time, glad it is returning.
I never thought it was useless. Having it back will be nice. But I never understood all the SMN who said they'd lost a step, open-world hunting and FATEing. I haven't had any problems doing as I've always done. Titan, 'Bo, things die, I live :)
Happy to hear they're bringing it back. Making SMN great again.
I'm wondering when smn lost sustain, people complained about it like the world is going to end. But now, when sustain is back, people say it's useless?
sustain was more for the pet than anything. doesn't really matter how much hp they have they die really easy from AoE and status ailments plus physick doesn't do them justice lol having sustain back will lessen the burden of having to sacrifice DPS to keep the eikon alive :D
This was only an issue if you were doing FATEs or a hunt without a party. AoE heals can heal pets in all other situations. Most DPS jobs lack sufficient self heals anyway and simply rely on brute force to kill their target before their target kills them.
Unless Titan was tanking. A pet dying is nothing a swiftcast couldn't fix. This is no different from replacing a MCH turret that get's destroyed.
Players got used to not having it, but being our primary pet care skill on a pet job made it's loss apparent. Literally every other option offered results in a massive DPS loss compared to just using one GCD to cast Sustain and get back to it.
It's also a difficulty curve of the job that SE is easing up. SMN is not doing well right now popularity wise, and if making keeping the pet up an easier process attracts more players to it, then it worked.
Plus, a pet job without a proper means for the player in control to care for the pet just reads as bad game design, no matter how it played in practice.
(SCH only got away with not needing Sustain since the job is loaded with heals and the pet just heals herself.)
I am so excited that Sustain is coming back. It means I can solo old content without too much worrying about how long its going to take before Titan dies, Like Palace of the dead, or old EX trials.
Now if only they made it so Titan retained his Threat Level after Bahamut has come and gone. Then Titan will be fantastic for soloing stuff, and RDM won't be the undisputed god of soloing anymore.
I was very glad to see sustain coming back. It may be a situational tool but as a summoner, being able to support the pet when I want to is something I feel integral to a pet class. Anyone who doesn't want the skill is free to leave it off their bars and having it an option in the toolkit hurts no one.
I've used sustain all along and I'm really happy it will be back. Will be nice to be able to solo fates again. Assuming, of course, that the new sustain heals as well as the old.
Have fun with your 8% heal every 3 seconds with a duration of 10 seconds. Casting that after every 3 skills sounds so engaging. :p Really not sure what content you're doing that you couldnt simple tank yourself with your pets DPSing and your choco healing. The same sort of content a BLM or a RDM could handle at least.
BUT you know let the special snowflakes fall from the heavens come patch 4.1. xD As long as people are only using it in solo content it shouldnt be an issue.
I feel like this is sarcasm. Or at least the words of someone who doesn't play the pet jobs enough to know how slow to react the pets are to follow orders. Like, "come to my side you are standing in stupid garuda," kind of orders.
I main healer. My chocobo is a tank.
It's not weird that I sometimes cast Sustain on my Fairy to keep her from casting Embrace on herself...right?
It annoys me when she stops and casts Embrace on herself and doesn't fly to me in time for AoE spells.
Though it doesn't happen often, it's just annoying when it does happen. YAY to Sustain!
Different parties saying different things. When someone is content, they don't come here to comment.
Honestly, sustain is a pretty useless skill, never had a situation where I had to use it as things always die before titan's health is ever even worth looking at, and if you're doing some group titan tank strategy ala 2.0 well that's what you have healers for. So, /shrug.
I miss seeing your scholar posts. ;;
What kind of logic is it though to make my chocobo into a healer when I primarily play as a healer? It's redundant if anything, though the birds have plateaued at this point in any form of tankiness, but that's an entirely different discussion. My mindset was tank bird, fairy healer, so I can just cleric stance away. Times have changed, and I don't feel like blowing gil on an onion.
But, on topic, what's the problem with giving the job a skill that was, at the best of times, a small safety net back? What is the issue with SMN being easier?
Why is lowering the skill ceiling an issue?
SE is going out of their way to make EVERY job easier, and well, Sustain helped. Players (apparently you never) used it and wanted it back. Just leave it off your hotbars if you see it as bloat.
The ones who missed it have their peace of mind and reassurance that SE actually listened to us.
I for one am happy it's back. It was a nice boost to my pets HP when they took damage ( it didn't do much but it did enough ). It's not like the healer is going to go out of the way to cure them over other party members. Plus overworld when my pet is tanking for me? Thank god it's coming back.
Sustain super useful for solo content. Instances, etc. Makes life easier. I always suggested folks go SMN and SCH first because of easy it was to go from solo to party content. Without sustain that made it harder to suggest since titan pretty much became a limited buffer. With the enmity suppression we have as role skills it kind of helps a ton more, which may have been why they removed it. A summoner can destroy most fates with Titan, and if they can go ham without pulling it's perfect. Irregardless, I appreciate it coming back. Been maining WAR most stormblood because, while I have been gearing my SMN and SCH, I never could justify taking it over my WAR unless I was tired of tanking.
Sustain was bloat bc it's a dps loss. Most bosses and dungeons don't hurt your pet or deal lots of AoE anyway so there will be constant Medicas to heal it. MOST. Believe me there are some where I was infuriated I lost Sustain and my pet would die(Doma first boss). But outside of solo with Titan it's a bad skill. If you don't want your pet to get hit, move it away manually while casting. Casting Sustain eats a GCD, Any actual skilled SMN will tell you it's not a good skill in most cases. Some people would potentially use it a lot when their pet would take damage and just lose dps for nothing. So they got rid of it. Makes sense really.
I would prefer they had made it oGCD if they brought it back but what can you do.
Sustain was the least of SMN issues lol but I'm not upset or happy it's back I rarely used it lol and there isn't a need for it outside of some solo content.....
I seem to recall a few instances of raid/dungeon boss unavoidable damage chunking my Garuda more than it should have. If those issues were addressed, I wouldn't care about having Sustain back (and have said as much both here and on Reddit). The biggest reason I needed to heal my pet in things like expert roulette were cases of really bizarre inconsistent unavoidable damage output with relation to mobs and pets (trying to prevent more Titan-Egi solo tank Ramuh situations, I guess?).
I would trade Sustain away in favor of a Bahamut that stays friggin' put instead of following me around like a lost puppy.
My 'Bo is an attacker, my Egi is an attacker, I am an attacker - we are a stinky horsebird fiery carbuncle spinny Elezen whirling carousel of DEATH in the open world :D
I love the smell of Deathflare in the morning. Smells like... XP.
Crap, I'm out of healing draughts. Run AWAAAAAAYYYY! :)
I just soloed Titan ex with my Titan - egi and sustain. Yeah so much fun. Really.
Hands up for SE.
I still feel a little crappy when I use physics and heals for 600 HP at level 70. When others RDM heals for more than 10k but hey.
They don't have Titan and sustain so I prefer my lovely summoner.
In solo, when leveling from 50 to 70 and follow the story I could have used sustain a lot.
I am glad it's back. And I like the changes. We want more as usual of course ^^
