Multiple job jump potions for 4.1?

I could swear I remember reading this on one of the live letters or somewhere in the forum. Right now it's limited to one per service account per character. I have an alt that I would like to have a job from my main (so I have already leveled the job once and know how to do it) but can't because of this restriction. Will we have the ability to boost more jobs in 4.1?

They said they'd look at the data and consider it. They have not said anything beyond that aside from that the amount of potions used was lower than expected.

I hope they never Implement this. I'm sure a million and one players have enough reasons to not put the effort in anything and will love to be a slaker, through some money at the screen and call it a day, but if you have a character at level 70 and you already used a jump potion time to sit down and level like anyone else. I though jump potion was "for people to catch up" but I'm sure some smart cookie is going to come up with a very ingenious detailed explanation of why they want everything handed to them. But hey that's just me I guess I'm one of those who believes on working for what you want.

Far too often have I seen people who have used these things (Dungeons, trials, etc) and they just have literally no clue what they're doing with the class. The whole point of leveling up a class is to learn it as you go with it... The potions skip that whole bit which instead leads us to healers who can't heal, tanks who don't know what provoke is, and dps who just smash random buttons. So yeah, no support for more than one potion per account.

Nah. May as well open it up. Especially if they're not as prevalent as anticipated. Make it easier on players to change if they discover they don't actually like the job they bought a potion for.

But, nothing anywhere ever stated 4.1, I don't think. That was just the forum rumor/assumption.

Well, to be fair, I would like to make my alt a paladin. Ive leveled paladin to 70 on my main but find myself concentrating more on dark knight. I wouldn't jump if I didn't know the class already, but I can see your point!

I hope they unlock these soon. I'd like to make an alt and start with SB content.

My baby alt is lv30. Hoping to get the lv jump and ARR jump once they lift it. The "this could mean bad players" is a moot argument imo. DF was and always will be filled with more bad players then good players :P

I kind of don't want it implemented for the same reasons. I experienced this in WoW and...well, it wasn't a good time for anyone involved.

But I can see the benefit of having it as well, you know?

First and foremost, this game teaches you very little on how to play your selected job at a decent level. There are no rotation explanations or skill synergy recommendations. In fact, some of the job story quests tell you to perform actions that intentionally break your combo. Second, people typically buying the level skip have already purchased the story version and want a quick leveling alternative. They're just going to spam PotD, FATEs or PvP anyway. Not exactly what I'd call optimal learning. And lastly, people who genuinely care to be decent players will put in the effort of their own violation to improve. Those who couldn't be bothered won't no matter what obstacle you impede them with. A friend just today had to Vote Abandon Castra Abania because the WHM and MNK refused to listen and do mechanics. They didn't use jump potions, they just didn't care.

I'd like to see it lifted but only one per character. It seems reasonable enough.

Honestly id wager it will definitely happen. They have a £18 product that costs absolutely nothing to make, any business will be eager to profit from that.

As for the players buying them, lets face it most will level in Palace without these and Palace also teaches next to nothing about how a job works.

ive personally not had any issues with these jump potion players, often they just need a bit of guidance through the content. Hopefully there are free companies and fellow players who are eager to help as retaining these players longterm keeps the lights on.

I would be interested in more than one per account as I have multiple alts I'd like to play with friends but leveling 1-60 is a lot to undertake, it's not impossible, it's just a lot if I have 5 characters I want to play the game with and I usually only ever end up playing one, for me anyways.

I think once per character is purely reasonable. I know this game discourages alts (and everything is based around integration into one character), but some of us want alts and to not have to slave over them.

I echo other posters who've mentioned not wanting to level a class they already have at 70.

And another good point above -- alts on worlds where friends are. Cross-server party finder doesn't fix everything.

One reason that fewer jump potions have been used than anticipated could be that people are holding out for a (potential) removal of the limit. In some players (I know I certainly have that tendency) the thought of "wasting" a truly unique resource is so big a worry that they end up never using the one-shot item in question.

Jump potions are cancer. Especially the story ones. So many people not knowing basic things...

Some people simply aren't interested in story but other aspects of the game. There plenty of players who skip every cut scene. What does it matter if they don't know Lyse's backstory or why Raubahn? It isn't affecting your enjoyment, or rather, it shouldn't.

Does it really matter? S/E profits, fools are parted with their money (micro transactions in a subscription based game is just greed) and it really doesn't affect the player base. I have a lvl 70 war and haven't tanked on war since ARR. Fates, palace, pvp, challenge log, hunt bills, and leves. That's how my war got to 70. How much fun would that first dungeon be that I decide to tank? The only reason to be against it is because you want some sort of power over other players.

people would like it just for alts. dont deny these people the option because some will misuse it.

More than one story pot would be for alts on the same account, nobody wants to go through the story twice, let alone 3 times or 8 times.
Same with jobs on those alts AND/OR your main. Learning a job has nothing to do with leveling it the "hard" way (really.. is it that hard to throw time at it till it's leveled?). I've met people who did the grind themselves and still played very oddly or non optimally. These people also don't usually take criticism well and will NOT change from whatever system they've entrenched themselves in.

Tell me how not wanting to throw another 2 weeks at leveling a class is being a slacker, with a full time job and other responsibilities? Maybe if you have the 5-6 hours a day to throw at this game it SEEMS like someone isn't putting in "the work" but some people just don't have that kind of extra time but still want to play with friends at the same level.
You claim that anyone who wants this implemented is lazy and entitled. I counter that you're not seeing it from a position that this is a game people play for entertainment, not a second job. Most of the playerbase plays for entertainment and relaxation and doesn't need even more time sinks added to the already long grind.

I personally haven't used any level or story hop pots yet, but as the jobs stack up and the story gets longer and longer, my alts languish in mediocrity. Right now they're mostly glorified storage, but if I could drop a couple dollars and bring them up to speed , my roleplaying and adventuring would open up quite a bit. I'm more than willing to put in a few hours learning a new class, even looking up rotations and optimal button layouts during work. I'd wager I could compete with a "legit" leveled person playing the same class within 3 or 4 days.


There are admittedly downsides to having pots available without restriction. RMT spammers in Kugane. Bot gil farmers at 60. These I think are the current reason SE doesn't want to open the floodgates. These are valid enough reasons to keep it to one pot per account and I'll accept them.

but "you have to earn it"? Tell me why my time spent earning the money it requires to use a jump pot is less valuable than your 2 weeks "working for what you want" in a video game. Time is always the ultimate commodity, remember that and your perception of value on many things will change drastically. You're always spending time, and you get no more of it than anyone else (give or take a few years). Spend it wisely.

I think the counterpoint to this is that while you levelled without going through dungeons, you were still participating and learning from content. You still had to know what your skills did, to some degree. Jump potions for new players, on the other hand, could be said to be having an effect on the community -- a lot of us are ending up in level 60+ instances with players who don't know how to stack, don't know what their tank stance is, etc. I think the onus is on SE to make sure players are prepared and actually learn their jobs, but I don't think it's about wanting power over other players.

I wouldn't mind jump potions, but it is frustrating to go into content with underprepared players.

Lower or not, it's not like removing a line of code that is probably a "if bought == 1 then f. off" would be hard.

That's all video games though. It's not on s/e to teach players anything. It's on the players. The community teaches new players, if they are messing up, then tell them. This is the most new player friendly game on the market and this still a complaint? Have you played EvE? Did you play FFXI? When you first start those games it's literally "Welcome to the game. Have fun!" and that's it. Leveling outside of dungeons doesn't teach you about dungeons. This is simply "I had to grind, so you have to too."

I would personally love this for alt characters, so I'd be happy just having one potion per character. Or, perhaps you can use it however many times you want provided you have at least one character on your service account with the desired job leveled to 60 already? Just some thoughts....

Although I also wouldn't care if they just allowed us to use it however much we're willing to pay for with no restrictions. As others have said, people who want to play well will put in the effort and those who don't....won't. But that being said, I still think having a little bit of restriction may be good since handing this out as an option may actually attract lazy players to begin with. I personally have a friend who didn't want to play until she heard that she could just buy a story and job skip potion....

This. Since gamers have become so bloody eager to throw money at studios these days, I can't see them opting to decline it. :-/

Digital item is probably the best way to make money. Create it once, sell it as much as you want. They could make garbage item that cost nothing to product and it'll still bring them an incredible amount of money.

Actually, this is a common myth. RMTs will never purchase anything. The whole point is for them to make money without having to spend it. Spending $50 on a single character means they need to sell multiple gil packages just to break even. The chances they accomplish that before the whole account gets banned isn't high. That's why Balmung and Gilgamesh saw no RMT spam when you could still transfer to either. Just the $18 charge proved too much.

To be fair, A Realm Reborn can be... daunting. You have numerous high and low points due to the overabundance of fetch and filler quests, a very slow progression system and far too many quests in general. I can't entirely blame someone for getting burnt out or not event wanting to slug through it all. Now I did enjoy ARR myself, but there were points where... it tested my patience. (Looking at you Company of Heroes).

Interesting, I figured they must be willing to spend some money since you can't trade with a Free Trial , and if you just want to farm the latest and greatest amounts of gil I'd have thought current mats and drops would be the best way. Glad I don't think like a gil farmer/spammer then..


All the more reason to not have limits on boost pots. =]

I bought the story/skip potion on my new character simply because I've done the story so many times in the past (1 - 15 multiple times on beta, and ARR in its entirety 3 times) and didn't want to do it again. And I get that some people aren't interested in the story but it really feels a shame that you would play this game and not take the time to enjoy it since it has the best story of any MMO I've ever played. And although ARR's story was the least interesting of the 3 arcs so far imo, it sets up the basis for the entire game so it's pretty important. Skipping HW is just a sin imo. The story was amazing.

I'd hope that the way they'd ideally implement multiple potions in a way that would please everyone would be to allow it for multiple characters IF you already have one character of that ROLE to 60.

So if I have astrologian to 60, I could buy a healer jump potion and get white mage at 60. I know there are some differences in the playstyle, but at least the user understands their ROLE (at least, one would hope!) so it's not like it's just plopping them down in the middle of content with no idea what they're supposed to do.

Yeah I hope they implement this soon. I have alts I play with the hubby and I've often said "Man, I wish I had WHM on this char to speed up this queue/make things a bit easier if he wants to go DPS" Since I main WHM I would just powerlevel the Job on that alt anyway.

This is quite likely the way they launder all that gil. I've seen items like Bat Fang, which normally sells for 1g, go for 50m+...and actually sell(saw it once, someone paid 150m for Bat Fangs). That right there seems like an instant red flag. But, at the same time, since the MB is 100% player ran, the GMs aren't likely to be looking at it that closely, especially with the smorgasbord of items that are out there that sell for 1g each typically.
