Recommended materia for sch?

Besides Savage Aim I was wondering what people would recommend melding to my gear. I know heavens eye doesn't apply to healing so I was wondering if determination got any buffs or is it still worthless for healing?

You should look at the complete set instead of asking for what melds you need, because this depends on your pieces of gear and your goal.

For scholar i'd recommend getting as much crit as you can and then go with det imo. You could also use direct hit to gain a bit more dmg compared to det, but imo this is especially in prog not worth it and the stats are pretty even at the start of this expansion anyway. This will change in the future however, because crit for example gets better and better per point the more you have and some other stats have dimishing returns. Additionally you should get as much piety as you need for your group, the fights and depending on your skill. This is very important and during progress you better be save than sorry. You can and should ofc reduce your piety as you and your group get better at the fights in savage. Also get VI Vit melds if you want to do prog, especially for v4s (if you don't have at least 36k hp as healer/caster already).

Mostly crit where you can, then a couple direct hit because it does help with dps and you need at least one or two melds to basically activate it, otherwise you won't get any direct hits. After then you can do spell speed since you have dots. Shouldn't really need piety and determination is pretty useless.

I'd argue Spell Speed isn't all that great on SCH now. We only have 2 DoTs that we should be keeping up at all times, and the majority of our healing, when playing optimally, will be oGCD; further negating any benefits of Spell Speed.

My melding so far has been as follows:

1) Crit on anything that doesn't already have crit.
2) Determination for progression. It's marginally less DPS than Direct Hit, however it boosts healing as well.
3) Direct Hit when farming runs. If you have the gil/clusters to remeld.
4) Vitality on 2 or 3 accessories, only when you're progressing on Neo ExDeath.

Might be worth noting that you should always have at least 1 Direct Hit melded, as it unlocks the ability to get Direct Hits. You should not need to meld Piety at all. If you end up having mana issues, either your group is dying too much or you need to be a little more cautious of Succor/Adlo.

Determation is not useless (yet) and you shouldn't go very high on sps, because we have less dots than before and healers are clipping more this expansion than in hw. The stat is not useless, but clipping makes the stat look worse. Also you need more piety with an high sps build. I would only get as much sps, i would need for a certain gcd tier, i prefer to play with and not like 1500 sps or sth like this.

I wouldn't bother with direct hit unless you're going all in with 6 materias on everything, that 1 direct hit every 150~ casts from having 1 meld is not worth it, nothing is going to die that wouldn't have died anyway because you got one direct hit broil, and you can't direct hit a heal, you're better off just using food with direct hit on it.

For melds, crit is your obvious first choice, then I'd say det, spell speed isn't so great anymore since we have no regens ourself and only 2 DoTs now (3 in AoE) and those are all spell speed is helping, while det effects your heals, damage and DoTs.

Well given how easy it is to come across VI materia, I'd assume that is what he's melding. And ultimately once you don't need the healing power, there's no real reason not to go all out on DH if you've already got crit on all your pieces.

Also I'd scrap the food idea, chances are you probably won't get enough DH from it to unlock the stat. You certainly won't get the benefit of getting all the food stat points if you've not melded any DH.

Crit, Det, Sps, DH, in that order of priority. 5 Grade 6 Vit for right side if progging on O4S.

Why would you say Determination is not useless "yet?" What do you mean by that?

Det appears to scale linearly while crit gets exponentially better the more of it you have. As our substat caps increase we'll get more use out of crit than det.

Is one Savage Aim VI enough to unlock Direct hits?

Should be, but the rate of them happening is so low at that value that it's a rounding error.

Will crit be less valuable now that non-crit adlo gives a 150% shield, while crit is 200% shield? Crit heals result in a lot of overhealing, too.

Stats don't scale similar in this game. F_Maximillian explained very well, why crit gets better and better compared to det.

Overhealing doesn't matter in this case, because if you see an crit adlo you adjust an heal less, which gives both healers more time to dps. Personally, i'd go crit all day for scholar and this change won't effect that. I try to heal with my fairy and indom most of the time anyway and reduce my shields usage. Besides, crit is good for dmg aswell.

Edit: You got the changes wrong. Adlo and succor both cost less mana as of 4.1, but only succor got an potency buff. From 100% shield to 150%. At least thats what we know so far.

Um, source? Where was it said that Adlo's shield is being changed? I only saw for Succor. And even if it is, the current text of the spell is "when critical HP is restored, damage nullification is doubled", so unless they're changing that as well, crit shields would become 300% of heal, not 200%.

Thank you for the DET explanation. So, does DET grow on a curve? I recall some players talking about Tenacity growing that way and that this kind of growth is why it's crap right now, but might be OP by 5.x... But it's all greek to me right now since I never melded much.

Adlo's only buff is an MP cost decrease.
