Probably 4.3, if it's going to happen. Gives them a bit of time to see where the class is at and adjust before 5.0. I really wish the class were a tank though, unlikely as that is, because earth and water based magic would be a great canvas to work with.
Sorry to say but it's not likely going to happen. There are a couple of interviews where Yoshida has all but said as such.

Yoshida: Currently there are no plans for a third job. Of course, there are a lot of people – myself included – who are looking forward to new jobs. Creating an unbalanced job or ruining existing balance is something we don’t want to do. We’ll revamp the system in 4.0, balance it, then maybe we’ll make another job.

We will still release some new expansion, we‘ll definitely add a new job. We don’t know if the development team wants to add new job during major patch update… They will say no.
If it doesn't happen, I wouldn't be disappointed, but if it does, I wouldn't be overly surprised. Ninja was something they felt was needed, and it drove them to make it. With the specific job name drops (Blue Mage in our mail, and Geomancer in Astro story), Stormblood bringing in a ton of "new blood", and them just recently announcing that it is "at the highest ever subscriber count" (meaning more funds to make a new job), it may be possible that they work on a job to release in a major patch. It could bring in more potential new blood and keep this "highest ever subscriber count", like OP said below and many felt the same...
I want Blue Mage and Dancer before I even consider Geomancer.
Not that I have anything against Geomancer but when I hear the term Geomancer, I picture a WHM with more emphasis on elemental spells than White Magic and as such, I can already picture the copy/paste job GEO would get; hell, I can even see them getting Stoneskin just to throw more salt on the wound and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Pretty sure SE said they wouldn't do it again due to the imbalance rogue/ninja caused by being introduced mid-expansion.
But maybe they wanted to throw players off of too much speculation until they decided to bring in a prominent geomancer npc. We don't know how many versions of the ast SB quests were drafted before they finally settled on the one we got.
This is my worry as well, and I really don't want to see another caster on an already healthy list of casters. What I'd like to see is a self-enhancement class that plays like a spell weaving monk. A water style dps stance that boosts haste instead of damage for equivalent numbers but a faster paced playstyle, an earth style tank stance that uses hp shield mitigation like stoneskin but on a much more frequent basis. Have the trainer be from the Mol tribe in the Steppes and give the class a tribal feel so it intersects less with WHM.
I'm sure Square can paint a much better picture. I just want to see a tank that incorporates elemental magic into a faster paced playstyle than we have with the current set of tanks.
Geomancer is in game, they're called White Mages.
That's why Geo in FFXI and WHM have Stone I, 2, Aero, and a slew of other crossover abilities. Also why the WHM job page by SE calls them the chosen of the Elementals.
Can't believe how many times we have to say this.
Well a real GEO draws from all elements not just Stone and Areo
Just in FFXI. In FFV, they literally have an ability called EARTH, and in Dissidia, Bartz gets, wait for it... Earthquake and Wind Slash.
Also, pretty sure we've got the other elements covered in Black/Red Mages pretty well.
Geomancer = WHM. Time Mage = AST. Put it to rest.
I'd love to see GEO as a caster or Healer! And if they do make it a healer I would defiantly love for it to be a very unique class that stands out from its other three healers, but idk, I wrote a little GEO Healer thread and I felt it was like If FFXI GEO and FFXIV AST had a baby lol.
But regardless, I'd feel overly surprised IF SE added GEO in between patches it would be anything other than a healer.
Dunno, there's a couple arguments on either side for what role it could be:
Healer:
AST SB questline introduces a character that seems to be a ritual-based healer.
SB changes have demoralized a lot of healers. Introducing a new healer could mitigate that.
Against:
Introducing a new healer without also introducing a new tank seems unlikely.
SE very clearly has no idea what to do with healers.
There's also that SE has stated that adding Ninja mid-ARR was a lot more work for the dev team that they expected it to be, and they're unlikely to do that again.
But it's been a while since mid-ARR and they were just re-starting the game from it's original flop. Maybe now that they're deeper into their 2nd expansion it will be easier with the additional man-power SE probably instilled seeing how successful FFXIV has become. I'm sure that FFXIV Dev. team has grown 3x since its original re-release.
Here's for me to holding on to Hope that an Earthly Entity that derives it's powers from the Earth's weather / terrain comes to light and ignites their party members with Earthen Fury, and enhancements, or perhaps manipulate Weather and Earth to bring down its foes!
I made a concept for DPS / Healer for Geomancer, it's pretty in-line with SE's Cookie-Cutter personalities it brings to FFXIV too.
The fact that RDM also has access to the same elements, to be honest, works against the argument. It means elemental magic is not exclusive to White Mages/Conjurers.
I still honestly would not expect to see a real Geomancer job until class systems are entirely stripped from the game and a major retcon of the class quests is introduced. Conjurers should had evolved into Geomancers, not into WHM. I think the only reason they went WHM is that at the time they were shooting for the most iconic jobs and nostalgia hooks. If they were only going to have the one healer job, there was no way it would not be WHM.
In this expansion they showed they are actually willing to take away abilities. They took Stoneskin away. I would now not be shocked if they also took away Stone and Aero and replaced them with more holy magic spell lines in a future expansion. Don't predict it will happen either, just that nothing will shock me anymore.
As for Time Mage: I would expect a Time Mage to be the offensive cousin of Astros, not unlike SMN is the offensive cousin of SCH and BLM the offensive cousin of WHM (similar weapon models.)
If it was "easier" for them, we would not had only seen 2 jobs this expansion. They are still doing big changes to the job/class system, and they keep casually referencing the removal of classes (possibly 5.0)
I would love to be wrong and get new jobs mid expansion, but wont hold my breath. Still fun to think about, though. Just because it's not likely does not mean we cant have fun theorycrafting the possibilities.
If we are to get a new job mid expansion (which I still highly doubt) I want it to be DNC with Asian inspiration. Fans as weapons, sakura petals..
Blue Mage as a caster-tank. I would extend the blue magic effects to not only make it as to be able to cast iconic monster spells but also include the ability to transform into specific monsters for extra mitigation or damage.
We coupd have a transformation job like druids in WoW.
Also transformation is a staple of the series with Vincent's limit breaks, Terra's trance or the Morpho class in FFTA.
Geo already works in an MMO, XI. Not saying it has to work the same way, but it work.
The biggest flaw about having it in this game is I predict it would most likely be a DPS Mage with spells like Eartquake.
Btw, no, a RDM is not a jack of all trades. It's pretty much one of the best DPS jobs that hapens to also heal very well. It's a king of a trade with amateurship in healing.
While this is purely my understanding of the situation, I thought I'd go make a concise and helpful infographic for Geomancer, Time Mage and possibly in the future, Gambler.

Actually i would like geomancer as the first caster melee. Kinda working like bard where you can set up a terrain in a circle that you can cycle like songs that does damage when cast/over time except you can set up 2 fields at a time and teleport between the 2 acting as a gap closer/jumpback. However everytime you set down a new field, like bard it has to be off cooldown which starts counting once the field dissapates. It sounds complicated but actually mechanically it would work really smooth and it would always keep me busy slightly changing how my rotation works depending what terrain im standing in. Probably the terrains would run along the lines of rocky, icy, volcanic, watery, grassy? I dunno
Melee caster as in magical damage close range only to clarify
Sorry on a roll now but volcanic could be damage over time, watery one big hit when laid down, grassy(wind dmg terrain) could be a weak heal over time, icy could not do anything but give you a weak long range combo. I know it seems like but if ice is long range why would you ever dissipate it as your second terrain? Well you could put the volcanic damage over time terrain on a mob while you attack the boss or put a grassy terrain in the back in preparation for a phase change attack for everyone to be ready to stand in. Sorry. Ok. Ill shut up now
If anyone actually played the Astro story... it's basically AST with WHM attacks... not to mention it will probably show up in future quest... the lore they set up for xiv world is they use earth, wind, water... and they wouldn't reveal a new job right away in a expansion... they would reveal it through MSQ, not a side quest for a different job... and basing any job in here from any game doesn't help besides the basic abilities... how a geomancer works in other games, might not work here.... that's why blue Mage has been a challenge to add until now when they have been adding nothing but jobs, not classes.
Dunno, but waiting another 2 years for a chance of any of your favorite jobs being added is annoying. Balance be damned.
IMO early releases on jobs are better for balance in the long run. Earlier feedback. Earlier changes. Keeps people interested in the game, too. HW felt like a chore after the first year for me.
Give me Blue Mage and I'll be subbed forever. :P
But on topic... The AST quests for GEO mentioned them coming "in a few summers" so I'd guess they'll probably add it with the next expansion. I'll admit I'm pretty interested in it actually.
Current DPS Standings
You may wish to reconsider your opinion of Red Mages. They are nowhere near the powerhouse people keep making them out to be.
pretty sure they added some Geomancer spells to the Astro.
Geomancy was talked about in the stormblood astro quests, so maybe in the future.
