QoL for BLM: Astral Fire/Umbral Ice w/ 0 dmg

They have done it for jobs like BRD and SMN/SCH, lets have it for BLM too!

It sucks when a boss goes invulnerable half way through casting your spell and your Astral Fire or Umbral Ice falls off and then it's bye bye Enochian and so long Foul timer.

Can we have spells apply Astral Fire or Umbral Ice even if an enemy takes no damage or is otherwise invulnerable, please?

That would be nice, I often find though that the game is pretty lenient, even if a mob dies as I'm casting something it counts it as if it landed.

Also, we've got Transpose which works as an emergency timer extender, saved me many a time on many a boss.

Actually, You can Transpose indefinitly now. Astral Fire and Umbral Ice are 13 seconds while Transpose is 12 seconds. Will you end up in a preferred stance? maybe not. But you'll keep enochian and Foul timer going.

Add 400 ping to that and you have about 0.6s to decide to use Transpose or not after your spell does 0 dmg and gives you no stacks.

That's true, but knowledge of the content comes into play there. Casters in particular are rewarded when they are standing in the right place, or precasting something, or transpose before an invulnerability.

That is because the servers are slow. You got about a .5?- 2 sec? (something in this range) to deal damage to dead monsters.

Transpose does not work if you have say 1 second left , it lands, immune > transpose has no effect

Might as well reduce Transpose's cooldown then.

Transpose for emergency AF/UI swapping always works, mate. I admit I still fail at using Transpose when it was necessary to keep up the buff, but I'll keep learning, and reminding myself to keep it up, so I'll never lose my Foul timer :D

I'll never understand why SE thought it was a "fantastic idea" to make it so that the Invincibility buff some mobs get completely removes Astral/Umbral if Fire/Blizzard so much as touches it (I think casting Blizzard IV on Invincibility even removed Enochian back in HW... but that could have been a nightmare).

Which is basically what it boils down to. I can fit in 3 fire 4s before I need to get in a fire (or bliz 3 when MP is out), but if halfway through that fire or blizz 3 the mobs goes invuln, there isn't any wiggle room to pop that transpose.

I still have nightmares of the times when I thought my Crusader Stance keypress didn't register and pressed it again, only to gimp my healing...I'd prefer to have at least a GCD's worth of cooldown time.

I think it has to do with almost everything being on hit instead of on cast, and when the boss is immune, you technically never hit it. Back when we still had hit rates, you could cast your B3, which removed your AF on cast point, miss, and never get UI3 because you missed.

I feel even just casting Fire and Blizzard on mobs with the Invincibility buff would remove Astral/Umbral, too... sadly I don't have any proof of that.

That is how it was in HW, they changed that at least, same with missing.

Yeaah this is why BLM is poison to me. that 1 second window to transpose kills any chance of keeping enochian in hectic combat.

A bit off-topic but I don't see why Enochian should even exist as an ability now that its timer is linked to Astral Fire/Umbral Ice.

Idk, personally, I think it's slightly a good thing having stacks fall off if you're not doing damage. Something to force players to pay attention, rather than auto-turret and eventually realize "Hey, I cast B3 but my MP hasn't recovered. Oh shit, I haven't been doing damage this whole time."

I honestly think Enochian should be removed. Build something around the use of Ley Lines. Make it the staple spell for the post-50 BLM. Maybe a "Dimension Fissure" that puts down a mark and the BLM can teleport between the fissure and his ley lines with a 20 second cooldown or something. Then it will be fine to make Ley Lines a 3.5 second cast and 15-20 second cooldown, becoming the BLM "stance" mechanic, instead of just a boring (but shiny, I like shiny) dps boost. Maybe even allow Firestarter to "jumpstart" a Ley Lines, making it instant cast.

AF/UI removal is on cast, AF/UI buff is on hit. If you look close enough, the buff gets removed slightly before the cast bar fills up. This change was made in 2.1(?) to prevent "infinite" Flare AoE.

To be fair, if you have 400 ping, its probably because you're not in a server close to you. Even if you're there for friends or somesuch, it's kinda on you.

Also, I get about 2 seconds of leeway if anything refresh doesn't happen after Fire IV x3 and Fire. What's your Spell Speed? I usually hang around the 1700-1800 range.

The best QoL I could ask for a BLM is just deleting enochian as an action and put it as a trait. The revamp the BLM got make enochian useless as an action and it should just activate if your lvl is high enough and you're under fire or ice.
