MCH 6 GCD in Wildfire

Here, we can see the streamer Aiurily Ari setting 6 GCD in her Wildfire with only 2.48GCD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjSM4_vWwss (I've caculated it's dmg and yes it's all taken in count).

On my side, I can only set 5GCD in it with 2.43GCD. Even if I go on a dummy, that I use Rapid Fire before, then Wildfire and just spam the Split Shot button, only 5 GCD will be taken in count despite of the 6th Split shot dmg being before the Wildfire dmg in the battle logs.

Info : I have 2.43GCD
My ping info on the european server is 21ms average (I used the 195.82.50.46 shown in the task manager/TCP connection menu for ffxiv_dx11.exe (+ I'm on Moogle server/Datacenter Chaos in Frankfurt, Germany)).
My ping to neolobby06.ffxiv.com is 22ms average (195.82.50.9) (neolobby06 is for europe, it's neolobby01, 03 and 05 for Japan, and neolobby02 and 04 for NA).
In my task manager, it's written Latency = 20 (min) or 30 (average) or 40(max) (yes, it only goes from 10 to 10).

Is there anything wrong? I believe my connection for a MMORPG to be fine. Can the Frame Rate to be a reason why, aside the connection one? (my game is going well on my computer, and I've set "60FPS", not "unlimited" and in the menu it's shown I got 50FPS average) or any other setting?
It seems way too accurate in an unfair way to get 6GCD. And I believe they should make Wildfire works another way or set 11sec to the timer, even if it's ugly for them to have a countdown of 11.

Suggestions :

- 1) Make the countdown to be 11sec.

or
- 2) Make the countdown starts at the 1rst GCD on the moment it hits (so we get rid of the Wildfire time animation and the start of our 1rst GCD time animation while still having a "10sec countdown") (so the target has like a "Wildfire ready" status waiting for it to be triggered, it could technically last 5sec max without being triggered).

or
- 3) Make a double condition ("or" type) to explose :
a) After 12sec, auto explose
or
b) After 8 hits oGCD+GCD -> explose
(so it's like a countdown based on the number of hits with GCD and oGCD we did --> So if we want it to explose quickly we will have to hurry to use the 6GCD + Gauss Round + Ricochet the faster we can, + thx to the "a" timer countdown, we still will have to don't waste it as the boss will have his invulnerable phases).

If you have any other suggestion : feel free to give one.

You can fit 6gcd in the wf+oh window only if you force oh with ft and you start your wf session (I usually start with cd) as soon as ft ticks. If you're going oh with a shot it won't work.

It's not about overheat, I didn't mention it. I only speak about wildfire dmg.

I said using Wildfire and just spam 6 GCD doesn't work for me (with Rapid fire even before the Wildfire so there is not a single oGCD used between GCD during my Wildfire).

Are you delaying your wf until about 60-70% of your gcd?

I don't use any GCD before, I just use Rapid Fire, then wait like 1-2sec to take my time being sure I'm ready, and then I almost instantly press Wildfire and Split Shot button (and spam it until the end) while testing it on a dummy.
Then I go in the In game battle logs, and I additionate all the auto attacks and GCD + oGCD dmg *0.25. And the 6th (and last) Split Shot before Wildfire in the logs is not taken in count.

Oh, of course, you can fit 6 GCD in the OH window but only 5 in the WF window! Check Aiurily's MCH openers vid carefully. 6 GCD is for OH only.
So you'll have 6 gcd while overheated, but only 5 will be counted for WF damage. That's ok.

Well, Aiurily said in her video description all her OH had 6 GCD in it with a 2.48GCD stat, so I've checked the video carefully and realized it even worked for her 1rst Wildfire (I didn't check the others).
If you look at her 1rst Wildfire around 0:30 :

91128*0.25= 22782 (her Wildfire was 22512dmg , and there are always some dmg point difference).

So there was 6GCD counted in it :/ It's possible

Sorry, my game is in French. The skill Wildfire is "Flambée", and Split shot is obviously "Tir scindé" (tell me if there is something else you need to get translated).
And you can see there are 6 Split shots between the start of Wildfire and the end of it (and even an auto attack between the last Split Shot and the end of Wildfire).

Wildfire : 2519 dmg

Auto attack : 659 (yes the 1rst auto attack is taken in count if it's landed because you activated Wildfire to start the fight)
1rst Split Shot : 1509
2nd Split Shot : 1989
Auto attack : 661
3rd Split Shot : 1345
Auto attack : 606
4th Split Shot : 1411
Auto attack : 603
5th Split Shot : 1310
6th Split Shot : 1293
Auto attack : 628
Wildfire : 2519...


659 + 1509 + 1989 + 661 + 1345 + 606 + 1411 + 603 + 1310 + 1293 + 628 = 12014
12014*0.25 = 3003.5 dmg --> the difference is too big, I will remove the last AA and GCD.
12014 - 628 - 1293 = 10093
10093*0.25 = 2523.25 (which is close enough to the 2519 I had).

That's because of fey wind, so you won't be able to do that unless you have a sch in your party or an ast that gives you aoe arrow in your opener or you have an insane amount of sks. But since that last shot is a non heated split shot (with barrel penalty), it's not a big deal. Of course if your sch switches to eos at the pull after using fey wind (as he/she should do) you won't be able to fit that 6th gcd in the following wildfires.

Yup, you're right, Fey Wind must be helpful. I don't know how it's calculated, but if I just do 2.48*0.97 = 2.4056, I'll try with 2.40 and 2.41 to give the results when I'll be back on the game (it still looks too much details for anyone not having a very good connection).

You're not supposed to get 6 gcds into WF, only OH. To get 6 gcds into WF, you need 2300+ skill speed which isn't worth the trade off of other stats.

Yea, I think it's not worth, which is why Fey Wind is nice.

If Ari can get 6 GCD with 2.48GCD and the 3% less GCD from Fey Wind, you don't need to reach like 2300+ (I guess you actually meant 1300+ x) )

The 6 GCD wildfire thing should be a visual bug. WF is not getting 6 GCDs in game as there isn't enough time without significant supposed. I believe the window for wildfire actually closes a tiny bit before 10 seconds and that might be why it looks different in logs, but it's only a guess.

6 GCD Overheat is only possible by using FT near the end of the oGCD window and having 0 clipping or lag. Wildfire doesn't work this same way so it should only have 5 GCDs.

Either way all of this stuff is pretty ridiculous and shouldn't even be a thing because it just punishes anyone without very low latency.

Simple question : Was it your last Split shot not accounted, or the first one due to WF+splitshot not registering the first hit taken ?

(If fey wind is the answer, it's still a bit sad that WF damage get so much conditionned by composition. 6 GCd means 20% more GCD and even if they aren't the only contributors to WF damage, it's probably around 10% more, WF damage overall :( )

But don't hesitate to tell me what made you think so.

Tested, at 2.40, 6GCD but it's very hard (I only succeeded once..., and after all the tons of tries I did, I kinda start to believe it actually didn't even happen...)
Even at 2.35 it sometimes fails, sometimes works...

Technically, 6 GCD is done in 9.5sec with Rapid Fire

The 1rst GCD is done at 0sec, then thx Rapid Fire, the 3 first attacks will have a 1.5sec GCD, so :
1rst shot at 0.0sec
2nd shot at 1.5sec
3rd shot at 3.0sec
4th shot at 4.5sec
5th shot at 7sec
6th shot at 9.5sec

Now we have the animation of Wildfire + start of the GCD to take in count. Let's say 1 oGCD = 0.5sec, the problem is coming from the animation start of a GCD.
And we only have 2 GCD affected by Skill Speed. So we need those few GCD points to send informations in time to the server so it got we did them.

Too much details for something which actually seems to be made on purpose.
I believe the problem is at the very end when we send the information to the server. We send data to the server at like 9.85sec to say "we did X dmg", and at 10.05sec, it gets the message, so for it it's too late as it sent us already at 10.0s the informations of Wildfire's dmg without that last dmg which already appeared at 9.85 on our screen, so before the Wildfire. Which explains why we see dmg before the Wildfire but the dmg are not taken in count.
And I guess their personnal pro testers don't have those delay problems, so they must have 6GCD way more easily than us. Which could explain why SE don't have the same point of view nor numbers than players.

Edit : I tested Fey Wind with 2.48GCD, I get 2.40GCD after.

After reading this thread, I started actually counting and trying to fit 6GCD in my OH's, it seems pretty impossible to me on 295ms~ (280ms is the best I can get in a JP server so changing servers won't help).
Sadly it seems like I am unable to play a great MCH, I can HARDLY fit 5gcd(i need to rapid fire before OH) in my OH's and 4GCD is without struggle or too much "double weaving" (if I even know what is double weave with 295ms).
I VPNs were actually magical. :(

I just try to get the simpliest answer if possible. If the last shot is burnt during the wildfire windows, might it be the first one not taken into account ? Since the trouble it brings make you rethink how the server interact with the player's computer, I just try an other way of thinking.

Thank you, but yea, as even the base attack landed right before the Wildfire is taken in count, then that 1rst split shot is taken in count too, and mathematically, if you calculate it, it works with this auto attack and the 1rst split shot, so no, it can't make a difference of suddenly 25% of a base attack.

In the end, that server explanation seems the most logical to me. Which is kinda unfair and... well, how to not be offensive... not-smart design "you, you and you, you will be able to 6 GCD in your rotation with 2.40GCD. But you, you and you (and you and you and you...), you won't be able to even do it with 2.35GCD" (which represent a ton of skill speed stats).

When we see people looking at high scores on things like fflogs, I believe no one other class do have such difference because of such mechanic (and of course people won't try overall to do it if the server connection is making problems... game designers are supposed to do things also mathematically, and this one is way too accurate to know what people are supposed to do, and it's unfair if some are then able to do more than others because of that).

I agree, but I don't think they thought that far. The designed a mechanic they think is working as intended, but the 6GCD wildfire could, for them, only happen with high SkS as an invest of points toward this achievement. But not due to minimal ping.

I can't personally fit 6gcd in my WF, only 6 in my overheat, at most (not even sure, since my first clean shot triggering OH is not accounted, that means I only dish split/clean and 3 CD in overheat. Quite meh, then.)

You're overreacting for an insignificant matter. As I already said that 6th gcd is a non heated split shot with the barrel off penalty. This means it's only a 160 potency weaponskill while the average potency of the other weaponskills you use during wildfire is close to 300. This is ignoring richochet, gauss round and the fact that you have a sure crit thanks to reassemble. The difference is minuscule and it only applies to the very first wildfire since you won't have fey wind after that anyway, and you won't have it even there if you don't have a sch in your party. You'd be gaining 40 potency in your first wildfire session only when a wildfire session is around 3500 total base potency. No big deal. I don't even know if that'd account for 5 more dps by the end of the fight...

Oh, and of course this isn't even remotely comparable to how much mudra lag affects nin dps for those players with very high ping (150+ ms).

I'm not overreacting because as you could realize, I didn't came back on the topic for a while as I didn't care much, but I answered to MauvaisOeil when he came back on it, so saying I overreact looks exagerated x)

And I don't get why you only take the exemple of Aiurily when she failed that 6th GCD into Overheat mode, especially knowing you was the 1rst one to come and tell me it was possible to land 6 heated GCD during Overheat mode thanks to Flamethrower and not doing 6 GCD during Wildfire, so don't come back on it telling that 6th one won't be heated just because Aiurily failed it once. Knowing it's possible at 2.40 GCD for 982 total skill speed (which is actually far to be hard to reach without Fey Wind, and maybe technically it's even possible to do with less than that), it would be nice to know if it's actually made for it. But I understand people will keep the current used rotation if they have a bad connection or feeling too lazy to calculate the difference.

Edit : Maybe I lost you by repeating Split Shot everytime as it was just the skill I used to try that 6th GCD on a dummy, but it could have been another skill.

Cooldown is only 150 potency when at <50 heat...actually weaker than split shot...
Dude, there's no magic involved here. Given the way we can overheat and oh and wildfire duration the best thing to do is aiming for a 6 gdc OH and 5 gcd wildfire, period. There's no way to have 6 heated shots under wildfire, not even with 0 ping and max skill speed. We'd need a gcd around 2 seconds to do that which is not achievable unless you ask for enhanced arrows+fey wind+stack sks and assuming you won't clip. Therefore you will gain at most 40 potency if your gcd is low enough once every wildfire.

Even if you put it this way, do not forget that even assuming you can actually squeeze another overheated cooldown in your wildfire (which is impossible anyway as I already explained), you'd only be gaining 25% of cooldown potency after buffs because wildfire is basically a 25% damage buff of all the skills and autoattacks you use during its duration. So 313 is not the potency gain you would get by being able to do a 6gcd heated wildfire, it would be 25% of 230*1.2*1.08, so around a 75 potency gain. And I'm not sure OH 20% damage stacks with barrel 5% damage by the way. Again, a very small gain, less than a turret's autoattack.

??? You must be tired, you have a problem focusing on the topic. Cooldown is a 230 potency shot if done during overheat, so that 6th GCD will be 230, not 150. It's not about Wildfire, but about if the Cooldown is done under overheat or not. So no 150 Cooldown or 160 Split Shot potencies in that topic.

Aiurily did 6 GCD under Fey Wind because it makes your GCD goes from 2.48 to 2.40 (I've tested it, so I'm sure about it). So 982 total Skill speed to reach 2.40 GCD is not impossible to get. I don't get why you speak about being max skill speed just with 982. With a 2.5GCD and Rapid Fire, it takes 9.5sec to do 6 GCD without counting the time animation of Wildfire which is very low + the start of your GCD animation (which is very low too). It's things I've already written above, too bad you don't remember, it made sense.

About the 5% from Barrel, it doesn't really matter as it's not really the topic.

You said yourself 6GCD under OH is possible, so 230 Cooldown is possible, then Aiurily (and I) proved it was also possible to reach 6 GCD taken in count in Wildfire with 2.40GCD, so obviously it means we can get all the mutipliers from both.

Edit : Btw, if it was not possible, the best is then a not heated Split shot, so 160 potency, without any boost. If it's possible, it's a 230 multiplied by 1.2*1.08*1.25 minimum (+ ally boosts, + maybe that 5% from Gauss Barrel). It's a minimum of 373 instead of 160 --> a 213 bonus potency, it's far from your 75 potency gain.

What I'm saying is that you cannot ignore the skill base potency and forget about it if it's not during wf, which is what you're implicitly doing here. You should only consider incremental potency gains and instead you're pretending that the 6th overheated shot doesn't exist if it's not executed under wildfire. So the actual potency gain would be 25% of that 6th shot. Right now we do 6 OH shots and 5 gcd wf because it's the best thing to do given the way we oh with flamethrower. You can theoretically do 6gcd wf, 6 gcd oh if and only if you have a very low gcd (around 2.25 seconds) by double weaving ft and wildfire (which is bad since you don't have complete control on ft ticks and chances are ft won't tick and you'll clip your gcd). But again, this is stupid since you'd need arrows and 5 gcd wf+balance> 6gcd wf with arrow, so you don't want that arrow.

I simply wanted to make sure that people don't overestimate this latency issue and are discouraged from playing mch for no reason. As long as you don't clip ricochet, gauss round and quick reload during rapid fire you can play MCH optimally. 6gcd oh wf is not a thing and will likely never be.

I'm really not a fan of OH with a FT tick, but I can't really argue against it. just the clunky design I despise, not the efficiency with it. I just feel any channeled ability should not be intended to be broken midway (or early way here), as the restriction of channeling with no other action and no movement should bring a reward somehow.

FT is pretty hard to fit actually, as using it for AOE will overheat you withouth it taking the damage boost, and overheating withouth it is a long and painfull unneffective way to AOE.

They could as well cut the cooldown and duration by two now, since you already overheat in 5 ticks starting from 0.

This is what I'm thinking too. Even though I don't mind FT as a skill and how we use it to oh, its increased heat generation made MCH aoe very uninteresting in my opinion. It's basically spread shot spam and ft after we overheat. Not that it was very exciting before that change anyway, but with a lower cd for ft we could at least limit the spread shot spam and it's not like mch aoe is so spectacular when compared to casters' and even brd's aoe damage.

5s /30cd FT and 10 heat spread shot would be fine. Aoe is quite busy, compared to dragoon, brd or rdm. But OH feels unresponsive in Aoe.

I only come back now as I prefered to don't come back on it directly. It was too long to be accurate to make you understand the way you won't misunterpret what I'm saying as you did before.

So unfortunately, you got me wrong, I never meant machinists were bad or anything, it makes you lack of objectivity regarding the topic if you have such an idea in mind, defend this idea whatever happens, but without talking about it so I could be more clear about it instead of remaining mysterious hoping people won't misinterpret what I'm saying. I love machinist, I don't think they are bad or even in need for improvement, but I don't like having such design detail making people feel like they have the choice about it while actually don't really have it, and possibly making them feel like they are missing something (the part you certainly mean you are afraid people think the class is bad because of this mechanic behaviour). I prefer it to be, or possible, or impossible. I never said machinists suddenly suck because some can and some can't do that.

Here, you are the one who said the 6th GCD was a non heated split shot. So it's like saying it was not possible to overheat with that 6th shot. It's not a 160 base potency, but a 230 base potency with (at least) overheat bonus if you use Cooldown.
The combo CD-3-2-3-CD (+ G.Round and Ricochet) actually have a total potency of 1967*1.08*1.25*1.2 = 3187, you just added like 10% power to it to defend your idea...
255+295[crit *1.48]+255+290+230+200+300 (crit is approximatively *1.48 dmg) = 1967 potency, adding 230*1.08*1.25*1.2 instead of 160*1.08*1.2 if done just with overheat. --> 373-207 = 166 bonus potency, It's far from the 40 you talk about... And knowing it needs actually 2.4GCD minimum to do it, if you get that skill speed (which is not a lot) it actually means you are able to land one more GCD per minute (I didn't count if it was troublesome for getting overheat every 60sec)

I was comparing what you said "6th GCD non overheated, so just a 160 potency" with my 6th GCD could be overheated and then use Cooldown with 230 + bonuses. I was not comparing anything else. You make up things to be right, you tell me the 6th hit is not overheated and then when I use your saying of 6th shot not overheated (nor with wildfire) with my version with overheat + wildfire, you come back on it and say I did a mistake to don't count it as I always do but I used your exemple not taking the 6th shot with overheat. Just make sense, it's annoying to speak with someone just defending a hidden idea "machinist are fine" with approximative made up arguments where you just seem to try to trick people into mistakes we don't even do but that you did, saying the 6th shot was not overheated.

All those explanations and this topic is not about saying machinist is bad, but if people still complain about machinist, I suggested in the 1rst post some way for improvement if and only if people still complain about MCH.

(so it's like a countdown based on the number of hits with GCD and oGCD we did --> So if we want it to explose quickly we will have to hurry to use the 6GCD + Gauss Round + Ricochet the faster we can, + thx to the "a" timer countdown, we still will have to don't waste it as the boss will have his invulnerable phases).

This is really good, WF explode by hits and not seconds, because then, even though your ping will reduce your DPS in the long run, at least the "penalty" will be lower (I suppose) because from 4 to 6 hits (I used to be able only to fit 4~5 hits until I've got a VPN, I had 295ms before).
Even though all jobs DPS are influenced by your ping in the long run, I feel like MCH (out of all my DPSers) is the most penalized, the VPN increased my avg mch dps by ~300, which is HUGE.
