O4S Solo Heal

I don't really want to start a discussion about OPness or anything here - just wanted to show a video of a high tier group taking on the current toughest challenge in the game and excelling at it. I figure those who are doing O4S / already cleared O4S can enjoy this one.

WHM solo Heal in a 7-player party (NeoExDeath only). I want to try this one day >>;

Looks about right. I believe most anything can be cleared with 1 healer, as long as everyone knows what they're doing. And in which case, most don't.

Man I wish I was as good as that AST. But yeah you could almost certainly do this with WHM too. Not sure about SCH since they lack extreme recovery tools, which the AST had to use quite frequently here. Of course, this requires a group to have masterful knowledge of the fight as well as everyone playing perfectly- there was almost no margin for error in that run. Pretty inspirational!

As a scholar main, the whole video I was thinking about it. Could a scholar do this solo? This is a Noct AST, our "counterpart", but I think our resources (aetherflow) would simply not be enough, maybe with a few good placed critlos/emergency critlos. But well, thats a bit inconsistent.
What are the thoughts of other scholar mains?

BTW, I don't want to say that Noct AST is OP. I think it's very reasonable what he does here. The player is simply awesome!

Also, i noticed in that video the RDM actually help in healing as well when the tank health drop to dangerously low level. Probably no one noticed that BRD is actually super awesome, the buff he used were spot on during the time of the encounter.

For those who have done the fight (my group still stuck on 8-10% OS3 enrage), why would you say the AST uses Nocturnal aspect here rather than Diurnal? I tried to spy mechanics that seemed like they'd require shielding, but with their full VIT-meld group I didn't notice anything. Thoughts? If shields ARE required, would this mean WHM is incapable of solo healing this fight?

dps also had 37 to 38k hp . lesser geared groups would just hey 1 shouted by mechanics

Astro was a solo king last tier, so it doesn't surprise me. Hako is almost full 340 left side Savage gear, and of course has the 345 Genji globe. So healer ilevel sure would help a whole lot in O4S. Although you can see some still get stoned during the ExDeath White Hole mechanic (everyone has to be 100% HP before the cast goes off). But they obviously have some savage gear drops since they faced no pressure meeting that DPS check. A normal group today might struggle with this DPS check if people die or get stoned. Healer DPS is required.


Of course minimal mistakes towards flawless play is good, and they got that on the Neo pull. Seems they spent almost two hours in the lockout to get the kill as the timer is normally 120 minutes. The healer pain in the Neo fight is the Almagest bleed, which starts right at pull and happens 5x in the fight. It's pretty thick, and requires your party to help mitigate the DoT. So mitigation/Shields do help a lot, so that flip side puts it on the favor of Noct Astro since they can also AoE heal on-demand without a cooldown like Emergency Tactics.

As for the people talking down Surecast. It was also helpful back in Midas A7S as well for bombs that interrupt your healing. Stay-in-place skills are perfect on ExDeath because everyone can be in Succor/Helios/Cure III range immediately for White Hole.

Shields are needed for the Allagan Field debuff the boss puts in the raid during Grand Cross Alpha/Omega.

I don't believe it is possible to solo this as a SCH. Indom with it's 30 second cooldown and Emergency tactics with it's 20 second cooldown would leave you with lots of normal succor spams that would make you go OOM, fast. SCH's have nice emergency buttons, but I really doubt it will be enough.

Think they extensively used things like Feint/Reprisal/Addle to lower incoming damage of AoEs, along with Noct shields. Its more efficient to reduce the damage in the first place than it is to eat it and heal back up.

Yep, I'm sure SCH can solo it with some ilvl just like this AST did. You'd have no trouble with Almagest as a shield healer. You always start out the fight with a nice Spread Adlo, and Sacred Soil mitigation along with your party being on-point with Addle/Reprisal/etc, all of this snapshots less damage by the DoT.

The one thing I learned since progressing on Neo ExDeath and watching this are actually more parts that really don't need to be healed for several more globals.

Depending on the fight's incoming damage, Nocturnal is overall a better solo healer than Diurnal because you have much less time to DPS when you are solo healing, save for phases with full downtimes like the Meteors phase in O4.

The strength of regens is that they give you a much, much higher healing potency in exchange for them being slow healing, but this opens up opportunities for both you and the other healer to DPS while the party's filling up. This only works when there's throughput of two healers, tho (at least in Savage raids or low IL fights). Since this AST is soloing, he gets more mileage out of his direct healing by mitigating high incoming damage with AST's consistently powerful shields than he would get out of having the party take more damage due to an absence of shields and depend on regens, paticularly for mechanics such as White Hole, in whch regens don't really do much for you due to their slow effect.

In my opinion, NoctAST is possibly the best solo healer, due to the cards and the powerful shields, plus very efficient, powerful and spammable big heals. However, for a normal comp, I think NoctAST is possibly the worst healer, due to the lack of passive healing, which makes it so NoctAST cannot open up DPS opportunities neither for themselves or the other healer.

I feel like I can no longer complain about healing and trying to dps while the tank is at critcal health lol :( I can only aspire to be this good on Astro

That AST is amazing for sure but I also feel like a lot of credit has to go to the whole group for performing so consistantly as to not overburden their healer. Everyone did very well in terms of habdling mechanics as they arose and for the most part they were just perfect.

Indeed, and I'm glad you point it out! A solo heal for any fight requires the group to be very very good, not only in doing the mechanics but also in providing the necessary support, ie. properly timed Feints, Addles, Trobadours, Divine Veils, Mantra, Mana Shifts, Vercures, etc, etc. Even the best of healers cannot solo heal a group that's constantly messing up.

That would be impossible on O3S right? because mechanics

There isn't any real "healer only" mechanics in O3S, so it could likely be solo healed but you'd need raid coordination for tethers and The Game. Like you'd have the possibility of DPS-DPS tether with a non-standard composition. Also if it's another melee dps they could have to go into an outer square during Library and Folio since the inner ones would be taken. It's like there is no real raid benefit to doing it solo because of possible lost uptime if it's melee.

You will always fail the first instance of The Game if you don't bring 2 healers, so you need to deal with damage down for a bit, and vuln/infirmity for 2 minutes, as well doing things with less LB. Doesn't mean it's impossible to do however.

We failed the first game in an O3S clear last week, that one is really nothing. You just won't have LB3 for Apanda/Library phase. It'll likely be LB 2.5 at the most. But that isn't a problem unless your DPS is too low, and we forgot to use that but still cleared. Just as long as you still get the 2nd game LB3 everything is fine.

Out of curiosity, do you know if there's a "righter" way to do the first Game? Sometimes my group only has LB2.5 and sometimes we have LB3 for Apanda but we always do the game "right" - right in the sense that no one gets the debuffs and no damage is taken. Is there, I guess, a "righter" way of doing it that'll guarantee LB3?

It depends we might not have LB3 during Apanda all the time, so we just wait it out until it hits LB3 and use it on the boss just before The Game 2, since it's a use it or lose it situation at that point.

First game is about as straight forward as it gets. But in-between in one of my groups we certainly build the limit break based on critical damage spikes and cooldown use. Sometimes we kill the White Flame fast enough that the PLD may or may not get a spike in damage. Our WAR does holmgang the critical hit during the cave phase, as the PLD grabs the dragon and uses Hallowed Ground for that, and I think the reaper party damage is another spot sometimes with a spike.

That's kinda what I figure as well. One of the people in my FC Discord was thinking it might've been our "The Game" but I didn't think so. We also Hallowed the dragon during cave though I'm trying to figure out what may be a good Critical Hit to try to combine Benediction with Living Dead in our composition.

Either way, good to know we aren't messing up "The Game" like someone suggested. I may try to encourage saving LB3 for boss after Spellblade Holy though if we have it at that point instead of spending LB2.5 on Apanda. Thanks for the train of thought in that regard.

Random bump to update OP with a WHM solo Heal in a 7-player party (NeoExDeath only). I want to try this now once I get more familiar with the fight >>; I do like the use of Break for MP-free DPS though I'm not sure the theory behind using Cover to block Earthshaker for WHM aside from just using it to keep PLD in Sword Oath and not worry about hate? /think

Also random thanks to technole / Thea Nappoli since our earlier discussion made me realize we actually build a LB1 after we LB2 on Apanda prior to the second "The Game" so we can shove a little extra damage out from there before building to free LB3 on O3S.

This is exactly the case: Letting the WHM heal freely without worrying about hate and without both tanks having to use their enmity combos. Only the MT has to worry about Power Slashing this way and PLD gets free DPS without the WHM sacrificing anything except for moving a little bit. Win/win!

Yep. Neo Earthshakers always targets #1 and #2 on the aggro list, it may not always be both tanks in a solo heal scenario since their Lucid Dreaming timing is obviously going to be different than if they had another healer. So taking this worry out of the equation is a good idea.

Man watching awesome healers like this makes me want to jump into 4. I've beat 3 on my SCH but have not attempted 4, but with motivation that there's someone who can solo heal it means that if I put effort in, I might be able to too.

Tbh I think it's a good idea even in a non-solo heal scenario. It takes a little bit of time for Earth Shakers to go off after Almagest, so it shouldn't be tough to determine which healer is gonna be enmity target #1 or 2 for Covering. Pretty efficient all in all and allows for a more liberal use of Lucid Dreaming for actual MP regen too, which can be a real pain for AST and SCH.
