Tank and Healer class suggestion.

Hello,

I am posting here to suggest a class for the game, considering the flood of DPS classes and the rather meager choice in Tanks and Healers, I just figured I'd get some ideas off my chest, I'm not expecting any of them to make into the game nor for the devs to even look at this thread, but letting the ol' imagination loose is not a bad thing.

First of all,

Hoplite[Hoplomachus](HPL/HOP) - Tank

Equipment

Weapon: Tower Shield + Javelin
Armor: Scale - Shares his armors with DRG

Now, before you get on my back for offering to use DRG armor, the point of Hoplite is not the armor, but rather his Tower Shield(Twice the size of PLD's shield), and what makes it special is that it has a massive Damage Reduction and some added Block Rate, but lugging such a huge thing around, it would be smarter to wear slightly lighter armor like you often see on historic depictions of the Greek Hoplites.

As for the Javelin, not only is it accurate to the Hoplites fighting style, but this javelin could also have a gun built into it, reasons being that it's magitek in essence, and Garleans like to put guns into everything. Even Tataru's water boiler probably has one built in it.

For playstyle, like all tanks, it would have a Tanking stance(Phalanx) and it's damage type would be Piercing.

Lore:

Seeing as we are getting closer to the borders of Garlemald with every expansion, it also opened the way I saw it possible to introduce Hoplite to Eorzia, by a turncoat Garlean Soldier, an officer to be more exact. A high ranking Garlean officer who is in his twilight years, disgusted with his homelands actions decides to defect, he attempts to escape into the newly liberated Ala Mhigo, your character being informed of a potential defector is sent to escort him, but he gets chased down and you save him, knowing that he doesn't have much longer to live, he offers to train you in his ways out of gratitude and fulfilment.

Reason why I chose Garlemald is quite obvious, the Empire takes a lot of inspiration from Greek/Roman society, even their military terms, ranks and common foot soldier armour resembles Greek/Roman soldier armour, so Hoplite could fit in perfectly from an aesthetic standpoint.

Capsarius(CPS) - Healer

So the word "Capsarius" or "Capsari" was used for roman military medics, and I personally think it has a nice ring to it.

Equipment

Weapon: (Grenade)Launcher or Repeater(Basically an SMG).

Armor: Light armour similar to the current healers, but since it's a gun user, his/her main stat would be DEX, so that would mean a new set of armours sadly, unless they can make them share their armour with Bard's and Machinists.

So the fighting style at this point is pretty similar to Alchemists in FF X-2, the Capsarii's skills would be based around using explosives and his/her Launcher or Repeater. Grenades that can cause dmg as well as heal teammates, grenades and gun shots that can cause DOT's and so on, as for his resurrection skill, basically just "Phoenix Down".

Lore:

Again we move into Garlemald. So the way I see to introduce Capsarius (Henceforth CPS) is through a short quest chain. Basically the Garleans have a military outpost on the Doman border and they are bringing in a small invasion force, but the Doman high officials decide for a preemptive attack and they ask you to take part in it. You succeed in destroying their base, but then all of a sudden you are told that there's a Garlean prisoner....imprisoned in his own base's jail cells. An eccentric man who is a military surgeon and weapons engineer and the original creator of CPS, he says that he was imprisoned due to declining to use his poison weapons for mass murder, saying that he only came to Doma for their medicine in order to advance his own research, he then decides that it would be easier to change sides to get easier access to the Domans resources and teaches you his techniques for letting him out and gives you a soulstone and gear to "field test" his inventions.

there is a job that is like the bapsarus its called chemist in FFT though they used rifles

Why not a pistol? We already have a larger weapon used by machinists, and it makes sense for the medic to have a sidearm.

The Machinists weapons IS actually a pistol, well.... it's general appearance depends on the weapon equipped or glamored, some are Revolvers, some Arquebuses, but generally the MCH's weapon already is a pistol-esque weapon.

Necromancer except call it something else for lore reasons.

So for Hoplite, there doesn't seem like any mechanical reason why it absolutely has to wear Maiming gear, especially when the gear DRG uses doesn't have the extra Vitality that tanks need. We already have a tank based on block chance (PLD), so maybe instead have it based on increasing how much damage it can block. As for the lore, I'm not sure about it having to be Garlean (pretty sure they'd call it a Hoplomachus), but it would be nice to see a tank job finally having a better excuse for a job questline themed around what a tank does best: defending. Just have to make sure that because it shares the PLD's shield use that you make a really good differentiation between the two.

As for Capsarius, there doesn't seem like there's any reason for it to use this "Repeater" as a weapon. Since you'd have it healing via grenades, why not have its weapon as a Launcher? It would still keep that firearm theme and I don't think it'd be the first job to use a big weapon like that to heal. Also despite this job looking more like it could be Garlean than Hoplite does, it could just as likely be from Thavnair given its use of what may as well be a delivery tool for alchemical weaponry.

Both of these concepts aren't too bad though, and it would be interesting to see these get a bit more fleshed out. BTW, edit the post to bypass the 1000 character limit.

Yes, I took inspiration from that class as well, I opted not to use "Rifle" as the weapon of choice due to the MCH's weapon being very similar to Arquebuses used by the Chemists in FFT

I used Hoplite cause it's a more publically known term. Even tho Garlemald uses magitek and stuff, they still have lot's of melee fighters in their ranks. Also, the damage reduction is exactly what I had in mind, I just didn't word it very well.

I also really like the idea of using a 'nade Launcher, I'll edit the post. Also, I'm not really familiar with the lore of Thavnaria, if you can somewhow work it into the lore, then by all means, assist me :D

Hoplite puts me in mind of the General job in Fire Emblem, aethetically at least.

My only concern to add would be the fact that since SE has abandoned giving any job but PLD an off-hand after the fiasco that happened with Leviathan Mirrors, I doubt we'd see it used that way.

What about doing like Goofy does in Kingdome Hearts where the sheild is the weapon itself? Gigantic wall of a sheild that used to smack, bash, and block?

As for the Chemist inspired healer, I had made a similar idea! A pre-Magitek combatant, old-school Garlean could teach us their old techniques, although I prefaced it in regards of how they could take care of themselves without the use of Conjury. Thus, combat Alchemist. :P

Regarding to the shield only thing, my original idea was actually completely different, a long time ago I played this Chinese MMO that had this Monk class and it was basically a tank with one of it's weapons of choice being called the "Wheel", which was exactly what it sounds like, so my idea originally was that the character indeed does use one big shield that maybe has bladed edges or something and fights with it something akin to Tira from Soulcalibur, sounds cool in retrospect, but I have no idea how to implement it into FF:XIV.

As for self healing for the CPS, maybe a different animation, instead of firing out a grenade, the CPS instead uses a syringe for him-/herself or fire's a grenade into the air above themself

Thavnair is an island nation in the south of Eorzea known for outfits pulled right out of 1001 Arabian Nights and better known for being a nation of master alchemists. There's probably some more info you can get from googling "FFXIV Thavnair", but my guess is that there could be some excuse of Thavnair weaponizing their alchemy for some reason or another.

With Hoplite, just make sure it stays about as far off from PLD not just in terms of shield stuff and toys, but also in terms of attacks and making sure they're using their shields differently.

I can understand their alchemical developments, but according to the lore, they are not very advanced in technology, so firearms for them seems like a stretch.

As for the Difference in playstyle, hmm...well, since it uses piercing attacks it works together well with a DRG, BRD and MCH. But I'm thinking that if the Capsarius were to use the repeater, then we'd also have a healer that benefits from their defense reduction buffs, but if Capsarius uses a Launcher, I guess the grenades would register as Blunt damage.

Something I had in mind with the Hoplites tower shield is that if your teammates stand behind you, they take reduced damage as well, but then I felt like I'm ripping off TERA's Lancer class and scratched it, but do you think such a thing could work?

It depends on what kind of weapon tech it is. Maybe not something like what we see with MCH, but something like a small launcher isn't exactly that much of a stretch for an alchemical delivery system, whether it be a small, simple shoulder cannon or a simpler launching device like a bigger crossbow or a smaller catapult.

A slingshot then? Lol. But in all seriousness, there are some humanoid enemies that use slingshots as their weapons. Could be all Ussopp-like from One Piece :D

Not sure they're THAT technologically backward. If they could whip up tools for their alchemy, then I'm pretty sure a big tube with gunpowder in it wouldn't be that much of a stretch.

Especially given how many MCH weapons look like grenade launchers rather then rifles.

I think this thread could use a revival.
