I heard that a chocobo can even outheal the healing fairy now. Should I be using the buff fairy instead? need more info. I got a free 70 SCH with my 70 SMN and would like to learn to play it (even tho SE can't balance healers so it kinda sucks)

Both fairies is worthless now for healing. All healing spells heal for more than they do now.
Generally people use Eos because of Whispering Dawn and Fey Illumination, both of which provide more dps openings.
If you're confident you don't need these you could use Selene, but I don't know whether the extra healing you have to provide (and thus less personal dps) is off-set by Fey Wind
To put it more simply, you're better using healing fairy in most situations
They both suck. Use whichever one you want.
I've been using Eos especially if I'm in a 4-man dungeon. Selene helps little with intense healing in big pulls and Eos gives you a nice healing buff, AoE regen and a defense cd.
I'd hardly call a 3% "haste" a buff, so dubbing Selene buff fairy seems unreasonable to me :P her Silence skill MIGHT be of use to you like once every hundred fights, and there are not a lot of fights where a team wide cleanse is enough to summon her over Eos.
At least Eos makes more use of Rouse and gives you access to the only HoT you'll ever see as a SCH, so I tend to lean toward that one more. In dungeons her HoT is often an opportunity for you to DPS more so that is also nice, if you're into/comfortable with DPSing as a healer. Just put all her stuff on cooldown, tether her to the tank, and go nuts with miasma 2 or emote spam!
But like, I do a ton more with a single Indom than either of them in a fight, so...
Pick whichever color scheme you like best or whatever.
Both faries have the same basic healing capabilities. The differences only exist in their cooldowns.
Selene can silence (which is typically irrelevant while also being finnicky to use), dispel in an AoE (which is irrelevant in almost all cases) and can buff 3% attack speed in an AoE with 50% uptime.
Eos has an AoE regen with a 33% uptime, an AoE magic resist buff, and an AoE healing recieved buff.
Eos has far more useful abilities for you, so you'll want to use her most of the time. However, if you want to make use of Selene's buff still, you could try summoning her before a boss fight, using Fey Wind and then Dissipation her away after quickly burning through your initial aetherflow stacks. And then swiftcast Eos back out afterwards.
Fairy is supposed to complement your healing toolkit, not replace it.
No way in HELL an Embrace should be able to do more than or as much as a Physick - UNLESS a time came where we'd become a true pet class and most our healing be done through fairy controls, in which case our healing skills/abilities would have to be nerfed down to the bloody ground OR given to the fairy.
Our healing tools are actually quite powerful - differently so than WHM or AST, but strong nonetheless and buffing fairy to be able to have the same HPS in a cast as a cure is just. Way too much. Do not need.
Eos most of the time
Selene if I'm in 8-man content that could benefit from her or if theres already a scholar in the party with Eos out.
Depends. Eos for fights with a lot of AoE, Selene for fights where you need a group dispel.
However, when they nerfed the basic heal of both fairies, Selene became useless. Silence is completely useless and responds too slow, and the dispel has very limited uses.
I prefer Eos in all situations anyway.
Eos for progression and to help learn the fight. Selene for when you have those fights on farm, since her Fey Wind can help speed up the clears.
For trials I'll start with Selene, cast Fey Wind as the fight starts and swiftcast Eos out for the rest. +3% skill/spellspeed isn't worth keeping a fairy with worse healing around and while Eos' healing isn't spectacular anymore a roused Whispering Dawn does heal for quite a bit and Fey Illumination helps when you know high damage is coming.
No. Scholar's don't actually need a Cure 1, and all fairy skills are technically free heals. Scholars don't operate on the same "small heal and big heal" rules that WHM and AST do as we rely more on instant casts and mitigation.
Honestly, if you are so bad off you need to constantly micro-manage Embrace, something is wrong and you should probably peace out of that party.
As for OP, Eos is generally useful in all instances as her skills better synergize with our big heals. I usually only break out Selene in instances where I can use her AoE esuna skill, like the Odin trial's bleed stacks during the DPS checks.
Well I got some better gear for my SCH class and managed to keep my team alive through ex roullete dungeons. I don't know if I'll ever feel comfortable in ex trials or raids as that class (or any healer) though. I'd rather be Tank or DPS.
Embrace only lost 50 potency, which I suppose that might be a lot, but when you can spam embrace and never really need to move out of cleric stance and DPS, that's an [balance] issue. Personally, I use Selene because raid DPS > personal DPS; the 3% buff is the exact same as her old 30% buff thanks to stat re-balancing. I only ever bring out Eos when I know I will need the extra healing to augment my own. As it is, my physick heals for the same as a cure; with my fairy, it brings it up to about the same as a cure II at the same [MP and time] cost. Scholar has never wanted for healing, even now; people just want to leave all of the healing to the fairy and do their own thing.
All SE ever did was remove the gimmick that the fairy is the healer and the player is the utility. Now the player is the healer and the fairy is the utility.
I'd recommend using both depending on what you need. A good SCH will use both in one run. I use fairy CDs when I need them then send her away.
I have never been the type of player to keep my fairy out all the time. I use Dissipation for extra Aetherflow stacks and 20% healing magic potency.
Fairy healing is there to supplement Scholar healing, not match it or surpass it. Fairies heal more than Chocobo's do.
