I don't think that means death. I played WoW at its peak and I got PMs like that. I think that we do need more efficient ways to discourage and patrol RMTs though.
Someone in our pt got the same thing, reported them, not sure if it will do any good but I did it anyway
Lies! There's no such thing as that in FFXIV!

why do RMT always choose Lalafel ? lol

The presence of RMT means there are idiots buying gil, nothing more. It's an indication of wasteful spending on the part of some players, not that the population of the game is thriving.
To be sure. It's complete stupidity, given the fact that most of the population is ridiculously rich. Gil is easy to come by. I can't believe anyone would waste their hard earned money and deal with shady people to buy it. But, apparently, they must if RMT even bothers. Sad.
This isn't necessarily a valid conclusion. The presence of RMT could indicate that a small number of FFXIV players are spending a lot of real world currency on gil, but it also could indicate that a large number of FFXIV players are spending a little real world currency.
Without more concrete numbers the only thing that the presence of RTM almost definitely indicates is that a profit can be made, since there is no other reason for them to be present.
some people are that lazy is why
why spend an hour gaining 50k gil when they can work for 1 hour irl and buy 1mil gil with it
its really a bad reason, but it almost makes sense to some people who dont have the time to be on but a few minutes a day(yes, people actualy play for up to an hour max a day, those people do exist)
Nah Amy, I think Vanguard said it right:
They have bigger MMOs they can profit off of. The amount of time they sink into this game IMO would hardly be a good payoff if they thought this game was in the state it was, say, 8 or so months ago.
To explain this, it helps to think of the player base as consisting of three types of players:
1] players who have a lot of time to invest in the game (allowing them to accumulate a lot of ingame currency) but little real world money
2] players who don't have a lot of time (and therefore little ingame currency), but a substantial amount of real world money
3] everyone in between
The second group is the economic gold mine because they may want to look cool or keep up with their freinds in the virtual world but can't because they don't have the time to invest playing--so they will sometimes pay real world money to compensate for that.
IMHO:
People are buying gil because nothing is selling.
People are buying gil because a lot of farm-able mats are available from NPC's.
People are buying gil because one piece of mid-level gear costs 100k.
People are buying gil because the majority of people playing are either new or have been around since launch, hence those of the latter group can have gil reserves the former can only dream of.
As always...these RMT have profit and still exist cuz for some players its more easier to buy things than make them. Buying on the wards its quicker than trying to farm and synth\craft items... Its a shame...
I did not know rmt went anywhere.
I dont believe they are rmting tho, i think they are 10k regional guildleve achievement whoring, THOSE PESKY LALAFELL!
Kinda sad when people cling to hope based on 1 or 2 RMT whispers. The game isnt dying any time soon, no need to do a victory dance over some RMT spam.
Warhammer online a game that has 1 US server left out of an original 63 still hasnt "died". Sure its in maintenance mode but you can still log in and play (even though almost no one does).
stop hating on the rmts they will put more money in SE pocket than actual subers.
lol just lol, i don't know whats more sad. selling gil or buying gil
If I'd saved all I'd made since launch, I'd have well over $1,000. Makes sense to me.
The only thing I can think of after reading your post is:

RMT spamming desperately before subs kick in is not proof that the game isn't going to die. Nor is it proof that it will. Although... it would be pretty funny if they're just trying to clear out their inventory, because even they're not going to be subscribing.
Please now that the low population cat is finally out of the bag let's not continue that wk-lie anymore. Hounestly based on my servers amount of rmt I'd suspect them to form a big precentage of overall active accounts meaning tha the game is even more dead than the surprisingly low population numbers suggest. I'm really happy server mergers or moving is planned in the future.
Btw rmt is all lala because they are trying to run their business under SE's radar.
I got the exact same spam as Forerunner :D instant blacklist + report.
More like they are trying to squeeze people for money while Christamas holidays are going right before subs start and half the pop vanishes.
the best reason i can think of is go into the character creation screen. lala was the first option so when making multiple characters they likely use the default and just select select confirm.
to the op
it may be they are just trying to eliminate their inventory because the rmt may be quitting when subs start.
they may see alot of others are leaving and last ditch effort to get gl off those people before billing.
they could be using christmas and people spending money easier than normal as an excuse.
they could be selling now because they think the game is dying and will not make it to 2.0.
they could be selling it because they think the game is going great and they are worth starting up again.
the point is that there is many reasons that the rmt could become active again. none of us are going to know why the rmt are selling gil again unless we are a rmt. even in that case we could only say why we started again and not speak for each and every one of them.
