Another quick question: Ast secondary stats.

Heya, I'm using Piety materia to give myself more mana so I can go a bit longer before needing to pop Lucid Dreaming or a Ewer and was wondering if you guys knew of a stat that would go well with Piety that would work for Ast?

Was gonna do Crit, but then they changed that Lightspeed Trait (which I kinda don't like the new version, but meh I'll adjust) so I've no idea now. x_x

The sooner you pop Lucid the sooner it's off CD for reuse, and the more mana you have. And I'm not against PIE build but you shouldn't need to Ewer yourself unless things got unusually crazy (or maybe you happen to be going crazy on Gravity).

For stats, Direct Hit for DPSing, PIE as needed, but we don't have stat weights so CRIT/DET/SS are all debatable. I personally am a fan of Crit as it can potentially save a life/time/MP, but if you're in Diurnal a lot then SS can make those regents tic harder giving you more time for other things like DPSing, and I read somewhere that DET is currently looking strongest but take that with a grain of salt. Even if we do get solid stat weights keep in mind that healing isn't about overall output.

Not a fan of stacking Direct Hit tbh, but so far O1S and O2S are so healing-light that I'm kinda regretting not doing it. As a Noct AST I went crit>det>pie, though a ton of our Creation and Savage pieces are bloated with piety and speed this go-around. ಠ_ಠ

Crit still has really good value for pretty much any healer, honestly. Det is technically the stat that starts the next strongest, but it'll taper off as the expansion moves on.

Ah, I see. Ok, I'll adjust myself as needed and use Lucid more often and try putting more Crit and Det on my gear in favor of piety. I guess being new to gearing and melding stats for healers, I went a bit overboard with the Piety, thinking more MP the better. I'll also try to squeeze in some DH as well for my offensive spells. Well, it kinda depends on what Sect you're primarily using and what content you're doing. My perspective came as a Noct AST in a midcore raiding team doing Omega Savage progression. If you're a DiAST doing mostly dungeons then your choices might be a bit different.

I've personally never considered more PIE to be a bad thing, though I know many do and are viewing it the way tanks viewed HP where "enough to survive" was all you need and anything extra was wasted. But in both these cases, imo, it's dependant on the skill of the player and of the party, tank busters are not the most challenging healing, and likewise scripted content where things go smoothly and your MP needs are predetermined are not the end-all of healing in this game. More MP/HP than necessary is *never* a bad thing, just perhaps not as valuable as some Crit or DET. Think for yourself and learn through trial and error—even the cutting edge WHM/AST stat preferences will vary.

At the moment, it's just dungeons. I'm a bit nervous trying EX primals, since I never did them in the past and I don't have a static for Omega and I've no idea how people are with it in the DF.

Well I mostly been stack PIE sine I notice I keep going to half or less MP on pulls in dungeons so I've been stacking it to try and mitigate that. Though I do like the idea of always having more MP, but that may just come from playing other FF games where you have to use expensive potions to restore MP so having more MP to last longer was always a blessing.

Melding PIE is a dangerous habit to fall into. Realistically, you can play more efficiently and avoid it. I'd rather Ewer card myself in emergencies than meld pie (remember every time you are not at the amount of mana that your PIE melds are giving you, it is essentially a wasted meld)

I can't make sense of all of their choices but the left side is similar to what I'd go for, and as you can see, lots of PIE melds, with 1571 PIE. Though they likely don't consider their own gear to be "BIS", rather the best they could get before hoping into the new savage content.

Don't just blindly copy world first players like the above post has just suggested to, especially if you don't know why you're doing it; because I highly doubt you have this kind of gear to warrant it and you aren't clearing content at the level he is.

Not at all what I was suggesting, following along the thread I'd said "think for yourself", this was a point of reference as in "person X Says meld DH or you're bad. Person B says don't meld PIE or you're bad. This top tier healer melds PIE and Crit".

Curious. Can someone elaborate why you would/should favor direct hit over critical hit? Just these two as they have comparable functionality

Crit is 108.5 points per percent, and scales a 1.5 multiplier. Direct Hit is 39.9 points per percent, and is a fixed 1.25 scalar than can also Crit. The average damage increase per point of direct Hit is much higher, but direct Hit doesn't work on heals.

I personally went for Spell Speed and Piety on my melds because I have a bad tendency to overheal (better safe than sorry!) and I feel that AST cast times are just too long for my taste.

I will be happy to re-meld my gear as soon as we as a community agree on what's the optimal meld setup, but for now I'm trying to compensate what I feel my AST is lacking.

World progression gear sets will almost always initially stress PIE and VIT until the fight is learned. As gear is replaced, they'll begin to reduce the those melds as needed, but the initial set will almost always be filled in a way that allows for the most adaptability. If this had been a raiding tier like Gordias where progression was gated for weeks by gear level and DPS checks then you may have seen them actually change a few pieces as the fight was learned, but Omega was all cleared in 1-2 days so this kind of re-optimization just wasn't needed; there wasn't enough time to worry about it.
