The Last SCH Problem: Dissipation

With the new patch changes, SCH is starting to feel great as a HEALER for once!

Dissipation even has a reason to exist now, with those extra AF stacks continuing to lower the cooldown of AF even further. But it's still a bad cooldown. We all know this. Surely SE knows this.

Let's talk about the fixes:

1) The most obvious change: give us our faerie back.
We are already being punished for not having the faerie during Dissipation, there's no reason to be double punished by having to summon it back.

2) Change it.
Maybe the new AF cooldown trait ends up making Dissipation too powerful (cannot imagine this would ever be the case but). Maybe a healing pulse, since we'll be in melee for Miasma 2?

3) Buff it.
The healing buff only affects some of our healing, and 20% isn't enough.

4) How about just... nah.
Maybe getting rid of our faerie for a while is a really stupid idea that has been clinging to life for no reason and is now into a 2nd xpac.

Just bring it back for us summoners don't lose their summon for doing bahumet, why do we?

Cleary SE doesn't like eos/selene last two expansions have been abilities that take the fairy out of the fight.

Also the 60 and 70 skill clash really hard. I mean they added the fairy guage but during dissipation those nice aether flows you got down add to fairy guage because she is gone.

Oh that's just your suggestion. Yeah that would fix it, but the aetherflow being 20 is just overkill, even without the boost . It would fix most of the issues with it.

Your update must have been a differnt one than mine. It's still the same except for two QoL improvements and two buffs nobody asked for. Well, and Miasma II is back for SCH which kinda sucks because now we're again doomed to stay in melee range for "moar healer dps plxkkthxbye"

Ehh, I've already been trained by stacking mechanics to stay as close to the melee DPS as possible so that's not too much of a hardship in my opinion. SCH still has awhile to go but at least it doesn't feel nearly as clunky as before.

I wont say Dissipation is the "last" SCH probalem, but its certainly the biggest now, if it wasn't before.

Situation: Raid or Primal Fight
Scenario: Co-healer is dead, large aoe incoming
Your Whispering Dawn is on CD, incoming damage isnt magical and your AF abilities were used for party recovery, Fey Illumination is about to come off CD, what do you do?
Fey Illumination, okay so you get 10% more healing on casts. Not enough to save the party but it's nice. Then comes Largese, another 20%. 30% feels nice. But wait, fairy isnt useful right now since her CDs are down and you really need some AOE. Here comes Dissipation for a total +50% boost to healing spells.

At this point Succor is a constant 4k+ meaning 4k+ shields and Adlo is doing 8K+ (im at i317 so numbers may vary). Mix in Deployment on Adlo and ET on Succor and you can easily recover a dire situation. This example also does not include AF abilities short that indom and Excog are on CD and SS is... lol

Is this situational? Sure. Does this situation happen? Sometimes. Are there other situations like this where a 20-50% healing boost is useful? Yes. Do I like having a potential answer for them? Absolutely.

The only thing Dissipation should change is giving back the fairy since i'll be over here hemorrhaging MP for these spells. Just give back the fairy pleeeaaaassssseeeeeeeeeee.

I will say I agree that Dissipation is a large problem for the SCH now. They do need to rework it overall. However, I don't agree that it is the "Last" problem.

I still believe they need to revisit our shields and physick spell.

Why doesn't Physick have a added effect like all other healers first "cure" spell? Reduce Adlo cost? Promise crit? Something is better than nothing. There are still times you are just spamming that heal due to having no choice (Cost).

Shields are the "core" of the SCH. As the white mage is full blown heals and really good at it. AST with the "Stars" shown by using cards. Well, our fairy has a ton of issues but that is just due to what I believe is SE not wanting to mess with them.SCH are known for our shields.. Adlo cost too much and is only even worth it with a crit.

I like what they did with 4.05, some were needed some we not. Just hope they work on the core of the class and do all these other changes around that core. Not the other way around.

Disspation needs to change.
Heals need to change.
Why sch have the worst heals with the highest costs? Succor is a piece of garbage now, needs a potency buff asap.
Adlo cost way too much.
Miasma 2 is a joke, they buffed that old annoying melee garbage so people would shut up, because the vast majority is annoyed about their aoe dps in stupid 4 man dungeons.
Fay union is still another garbage that takes literally 30 years to activate, if the targets run away the fairy wont use gauge but will sit there doing nothing AND the potency is just so tiny its not worth the trouble.
All excog needed was to heal when it runs out of time also. Using an aetherflow stack and not procing is quite annoying.
SE missed the point completely with these changes.

Excogitation is very powerful now, I believe the highest potency non percentage based heal, and worth using if you actually plan it out properly. Everything else you said is highly questionable.

SCH has such high MP costs because 60 to 70% of our potential HPS is literally completely free. Even more so now with Fey Union. Also, the new Aetherflow trait makes it so SCH can potentially ignore Lucid Dreaming if they're feeling ballsy. I personally wouldn't, but my playstyle is now very MP intensive. This doesn't mean MP is a problem for me, however. Specially not now with QA. Adlo and Succor could use a slight MP cost reduction, but I no longer think it's absolutely necessary or that it is too detrimental to the job. If anything, it cements its designed weaknesses further, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Fairy AI is clunky? Yes, it is, but this never stopped the job from having a guaranteed spot throughout all of HW, and it won't drag it down now. A good SCH will always find a way around pet AI after all.

Even without the Fey Union DH bug, it's actually strong enough to be the only healing source you need going out during a double trash pull. A triple trash pull might need you to use WD before going for Union, but the ticks are pretty strong. It won't keep the tank topped off, but the steady healing is enough to let you fully DPS through an entire pull if you build the gauge enough. The gauge drop-off rate is also super slow, and Quickened Aetherflow makes it so it charges much faster. I agree it takes a very long time to activate, though, but again, see my point Fairy AI.

Whenever Excog doesn't proc for me, it means I used it wrong. Learn to know when each part of your kit is the better option. An 800 potency heal isn't something that you should be able to throw around freely, specially not on a 45s CD and with another 600 potency option on a 1s CD. This is like throwing out Indomitability when you could have safely used Whispering Dawn instead. Waste of situational resources is the player's fault, not the tool's.

Miasma II is a close second to Holy for "strongest healer aoe DPS spell." Gravity is hot trash in comparison to both. If anything, Miasma II's range is its only weakness. Everything else about it is superior to its counterparts: more damage, less MP, instant (and shorter cast time compared to 3s for the others), more versatility due to its DoT, no damage scaling, and even good single target uses thanks to Energy Drain. I only put it second to Holy because the stun Holy brings is a massive form of mitigation in trash.

Please don't take this as an attack or anything. I don't want to dismiss your opinion completely, but I think the SCH complains, particularly the ones you posted, are an overexaggeration. The job is actually on a rather comfortable spot right now.

My only true gripes with SCH right now are that Dissipation remains unchanged and that Selene is still literally just Fey Wind pre-pull, but these problems were very present in HW. Kind of a shame they're still not quite there.

I honestly don't think Dissipation needs that buff anymore. The new version of Quickened Aetherflow meaning that Dissipation lets you bring Aetherflow's CD down to 30 seconds is huge. I've been doing this as my opener:

Precast Broil II
Bio II > Shadowflare > Energy drain
Miasma
Miasma II > Chain Stratagem > Energy Drain
Broil II > Energy Drain > Aetherflow
Broil II > Energy Drain
Broil II > Energy Drain
Miasma II > Energy Drain > Dissipation
Broil II > Energy Drain
Broil II > Energy Drain
Miasma> Energy Drain
Bio II > Aetherflow

(DoT reapplications are based on GCD being 3 seconds because I'm too tired to work out what the actual timings are and most of those are clipping because of the Broil II anyway. It gets the idea across.)

Replace DPS spells with heals as needed obviously, but it seriously allows you to use an Aetherflow ability nearly every GCD for pretty much the first 30 seconds of the fight. That is a lot of extra potency or potential healing in that time, and you can do this every 3 minutes when Dissipation is available.

The only two changes I would make to SCH at this point are allowing Aetherflow stacks spent under the effect of Dissipation to fill the Fairy Gauge, or reducing Fey Union's cost-per-tick from 10 to 5. And honestly probably not even both, just one of the two. (Well, only changes other than fixing the pet AI and Selene, I mean.)

My problem is we have a bunch of abilities that fight against each other summons, dissipate, and fey union.

None of them seem to work together but instead oppose eachother. Making changes so they mesh better would go along way to just how the job feels.

Dissipate and fey union deactivate summon
Dissipate makes aether stacks not work toward fey union
Fey union locks you out of dissipate.

It's a lot of contradictions. Having fairy come back after dissipate or better yet have dissipate be like fey union where instead she channels you with power doing all its current effects, so she doesn't go anywhere and it could even use the fairy guage to activate would go a long way to making it mesh together better.

I'm going to expand on my above thought.

Imagine dissipation with a new name that works off the fairy guage.

When activated the fairy plants and starts to channel the scholar similar to fey union. When the scholar is being channeled the fairy gauge depletes and the scholar is given the current bonus to healing that dissipation gives as well as aether stacks at some rate of stack per time.

It would still lock fairy to us, but leave her on field, so no worry desummon. Give the fairy gauge more than one use, give dissipation a little more versatility because you could use it for a short duration for a boost.

Agree that dissipation should be reworked into a skill that also uses the fae gauge. Channeling to the sch keeping it's effects is a good suggestion. Having it cost gauge though does lower the frequncy of union though so perhaps a slight buff it like dmg received -5% Bonus points if new dissipation and fae union did something different with Selene out.

I think they should just get rid of dissipation and make a move that resets your fairies cooldowns, this would be very helpful.

And/or perhaps make it so that when you use it, it instantly swaps your summoned fairy with no mp cost, cast time and without resetting the fairy gauge.

Simply no. All of our oGCD heals are gated behind Aetherflow stacks. Every Aetherflow stack that you don't use on Energy Drain can be considered to cost you 1200 MP.

I would be okay with the current Dissipation if it wouldn't reset the fairy gauge or allow us to resummon the Fairy for free mp cost.

To add to that, all Aetherflow actions essentially share the same cooldown since, if you have no Aetherflow, you can't use them. Doesn't matter if they're off cooldown, they can't be used.

The only logical reason to delete your faerie is because you are oom, miles from lucid and can't afford the energy drain which in itself, is a horrible predicament to be in (and probably means you aren't playing very well). But if god forbid, you are in this position, it seems counterproductive to do so, then wind up spending that mana regen you were saving back on resummoning your faerie. It should, as a bare minimum at least cost less.

My idea:

Make Dissipation permanently unsummon your fairy and provide you with a good size boost (20-30%), giving you the abilities of the fairy (sans embrace)

This would allow SCH to be able to become a pure healer if necessary minus all the clunkiness of the fairy. If this were the case, I doubt I would ever see Eos again.

Wouldn't this just be like playing a Whm then? They just need to get rid of a skill that takes away a chunk of our healing for a boost to our weak shields and Physick.

I'm not talking about Aetherflow actions. I'm talking about fairy actions, which are indeed completely free, both in mp cost and gcd usage.

it gives 20% healing AND 3 aetherflow. that is three free lustrates or energy drains at least. and the 20% healing is a another largess for a super adlo or deployed adlo or even just a succor.

dissipation is different from other healing cooldowns in that it doesn't give you an immediate desirable effect and that's why people hate it. but the ability is strong IF you can use it properly.

let's look at O1S. you can heal it JUST fine without Dissipation. but let's look at it...

during one of the knockback plus levinbolt phase 2 DPS stacked and are now at 5% HP. this is followed by a raid buster so everyone needs to be at full. You already used an energy drain so you only have 2 left and you popped Lustrate on one and the other healer took care of the other DPS. you have one aether left and aetherflow won't cooldown in time. you use indomitability plus Rouse and wbispering Dawn to heal everyone after the raidbuster.

O aetherstacks but everyone is alive. your aetherflow is still on CD.

But after this the boss is going to do Charybdis (everyone to 1 hp) followed by Twinbolt on the 2 tanks. You pop Fey Covenant and FEY Illumination out of instinct.

all your pet abilities are down. Whispering Dawn is still ticking on the raid however but this won't be enough for the upcoming Twinbolt. fey illum and covenant buffs are still also up.

You pop Dissipation dismissing the pet and giving you 3 aether stacks. one goes to the Mt with Excogitation. You swiftcast a dissipated largessed adlo on the offtank then deploy it. you have 2 stacks of aetherflow left and you use one on the offtank which leaves you with am extra aether after Twinbolt is cast. raid is alive and everyone is alive.

after this mechanic is sort of a transition phase where not a lot of damage goes out which gives you ample time to harder your pet back after dissipation ends.

This is just one instance of how I HAVE used it. every attempt is fun and as I learn the fights ill find more ways to use Dissipation

Dissipation is less of a learn-to-play issue; it's more that the additional baggage it inflicts (needing to blow a chunk of MP and a Swiftcast to resummon the faerie) and the fact that its healing buff does nothing to boost the effectiveness of Aether spenders makes it an arguably subpar and excessively niche CD for its 180s recast time and aforementioned restriction.

I won't retread all of the other reasons Dissipation needs work, but basically we have something that is supposed to be an emergency skill but is of questionable use in actual, unforeseen emergencies. It needs to have synergy with more of the SCH kit, and this issue is more starkly highlighted now with Aetherpact use being at direct odds with Dissipation.
