Thoughts on rdm

A caster with nfinite swift cast, heals, mobility, and short hard cast times. This is a problem.

I think dual cast should be reduced to a proc like fire starter, not a guarantee (keep acceleration like sharp cast )

And since it's blm magic in lore give them our cast times. Or make the verprocs the instant cast.

Blm being the only caster with 0 utility or rez would be like if drk was the only tank with no flash equivalent, would you bring it to runs?

I still don't see the problem, you say it is..but fail to prove it to me. It just seems like you don't like a red mage being a red mage.

Come on man another thread for this? If RDM needed anything, all they would need is a few potency reductions. Don't touch their playstyle, or their identity. They wont change RDM for a least a few months so just hope the tuesday buffs for the other casters is good.

Because you say so SE should uproot RDM entirely because you don't like how the job doesn't fit your vision of RDM being something for early and mid tier content but never end tier. Big reason RDM is even OP atm is because of a glitch that will hopefully get fixed, otherwise BLM not only hits harder per spell now, but will be buffed even more on Tuesday.

Also funfact: if you *just* use black mana, you'll be crap. If you *just* use white mana, you'll be crap. If you *just* use melee, you'll be crap. RDM's strength comes from combining all three.

I love how you just want to screw up the class that other people have fallen in love with because...reasons? If you're so in awe of all the goodies that RDMs have then just play one.

The raise and cure are not a game changer.
It's also come to my attention that there's a RDM bug that makes it have waaay more dps than it should.
(I tested- 3.4 on Lak without abusing and 3.7/8 absuing it).
We need to wait a see how much correcting that bug affects the real dps statistics of RDM. No point in taking any conclusions before that happens.

And please don't take this the wrong way, but your BLM isn't even 70... isn't it a bit early for you to be concerned about meta comps?

EDIT: and please don't touch Dualcast. You can adjust numbers as necessary, but I think it's quite charming that BLM and RDM stand on the two opposite ends of the caster spectrum- one is highly mobile and the other is an immobile cannon.

The fact the class has a glitch is an obvious problem. The fact that it's a hybrid means it should enjoy that aspect, not be king of it all.

No my blm may not be max yet, I research quite a bit though and can still point out problems.

If you can use black and white magic as well as melee why should you do more damage than a pure black mage? Maybe the upcoming fire 4 cast reduction will help Even things out, maybe not.

Why should one caster with a lowskill cap and all these goodies do more than other Classes who are pure dps

Someone else mentioned enhancing sure cast to give us a movement window as blm and that would be great as well.

You have two choices.

Reroll to a easier class.
Enjoy your BLm even if they might not be the best of the best dps (right now.)

You enjoy the play style? If yes stick with it. If no reroll.

Asking for nerfs on other classes won't do you any good, the devs already said skill cap does not matter on class. It is balance around class flavor. So rdm being easier than BLM means nothing to the devs. So accept it, or reroll.

Maybe I'm just a salty blm. I just FEEL like if all we have is dps we should at least hit the hardest. I don't think if they had hit our potency there would be this much outrage. I don't want to change my class based on flavor of the month but if they offer more, Its bad for party not to. If nothing else potencies should be adjusted, you have constant mobility, options to heal and help raise party. Buffs, at least SE could let is be the turret we should be. In most dungeons by the time I cast fire 4 once the mobs are dead from melee and rdm.

Nobody wants rdm butchered but if it's an option class let that be it's niche.

Why would you bring a Blm or a smn in your party over a red mage? Nobody can answer that but want to pretend that all casters not being viable equally isn't an issue.

In the world of XIV, it is. It has the added benefit of healing, and practicioners of White Magic post-Magi War focus on it.

You forged a boogeyman for yourself based on researching that which you do not understand. RDM does not hit as hard as BLM. Moreover, RDM's Black Magic is nowhere on par with Black Mage's Black Magic. Nor is its White Magic as potent as White Mage's White Magic. It also has no access to Water and Blizzard spells, so there's another area of both magics they have no grasp on.

Hybrid=/=weak. Jack of all Trades may be mediocre at all, but you still have access to all--and using all is the strength that puts RDM where they are.

basically Op is unhappy the class he chose, BLM is hard to play and feel unfair that players enjoying RDM. If you dont like it dont play it, trying to shift the blame to other class to justify ur feeling is very childish

This mindset is flawed because RDM is NOT a Jack of All Trades. You're thinking of RDM from other FF games where there weren't strict role systems. RDM fell into DPS, so it's role is to DPS, and to do it well. That doesn't mean being a poor man's BLM. It means being able to match a BLM, unless wasting time with Vercure/Verraise.

I think RDM is fine, just that AoE is awkward at pre 52. I mean, BLM has Flare and Fire II which does a crapload of damage, but we're stuck with 100 potency AoE every GCD. Even at high levels, SMN and BLM have Flare/Ahk Mourn/Painflare/Foul etc for 300-600+ potency AoEs and we still at best just have a 200 potency aoe, and a 300 ogc on 45s cooldown. Wish at least Verholy/Verflare were AoE.

I do sorta find it weird that RDM's have small AoE and that's normally what casters bring to the table but I guess that's why they are given their utility. RDM's aren't as powerful in WHM or BLM in both of those fields. So Lore wise, it sorta fits for this game.

First of all RDM is not a "hybrid jack of all trades something something", RDM is a ranged caster DPS class in this game and if you are hesitant to understand that I'm forced to question your analytical capabilities already.
Second -- RDM has literally the same DPS potential as BLM and I mean it, only few RDMs could actually pull off better numbers than BLM and those would be just 50-100 DPS higher at best. So you either need to get better at your job or just pick one that's easier to play, if you aren't capable of perfoming well.
And lastly to people, who think that RDM has low AoE, that's incorrect as well. Just do the math or learn the way to use your abilities correctly for 3/3+ targets.
RDM is currently the most balanced job in the game, if anything some other jobs should get adjusted slightly.

Pre-52, RDM AoE is trash tier. 100 potency every GCD on 3+ targets?

Compared to Flare/Fire II (with AF bonuses)/Bane/Shadow Flare/Enkindle+Rouse

It makes pre 52 dungeons hella boring as RDM when tanks are pulling 12+ mobs and all you have is a 100 potency spell every GCD.

The last thing we want is for all the casting jobs to be basically the same. If you think RDM is so much better than BLM, switch!

At 62 I still find AoE really boring. It is mostly just spamming scatter and very unsatisfying compared to incinerating trash pulls on BLM.
