Anyone played all of the Final Fantasies consecutively?

About a year ago I set out to play all of the Final Fantasies in order to get a sense for their evolution (completionist much? I know, I know). I've finished I, II, and will finish III by the end of the year.

I'm curious as to how many other people have tackled this. How many of the previous Final Fantasies have you played? And did you play them consecutively?

That sounds cool, but crazy. I can't handle that much of one genre in a row.

Played all main series (except XIII and XI - unless you count the free trial lol) and most spin offs, but not really in order. First was IV on the SNES.

That said, I'm also not sure if I could handle playing them all consecutively, I can hardly play a sequel right after the first game, imagine 14 sequels D:

I played some of the Main Series excluding I, II, V, VI, XI (That's quite a lot actually, lol)
Heck, I was only 3 when X came out >.> Couldn't play XI because of Age requirement.

I also played some of the non-main series:
(FFT Series, FF Type-0, XII Revenant Wings, X-2, Crisis Core, Crystal Chronicles, 4 Heroes of Light, Dissidia series)

As for the order/consecutiveness, No I didn't play them consecutively, and the Order was quite scrambled :D

I have and I loved all of them in their ways

Ive done a FF binge numerous times (as well as a Zelda binge...completely off topic though Skyward Sword > Ocarina of Time, just sayin)

Anyway most recently I did:

I > II > III > IV > IV-2 > V > VI > VIICC > VII > VIIDoC > VIII > IX > X > X-2 > XII > XIII

(Ive played through all the expansions to XI as well but since its an MMO its kinda hard to "replay" unless you reroll your character :x and of course Im playing XIV now)

Then sometimes I go on the Crystal Chronicles binge and play through that series. :s I know such a fanboy! But not a white knight.

The day I got my copy of FF7 back in 1998, I had to play everyone of them ever since.

I did 1 > 4 > Mystic Quest > 6 > 7 > Tactics > 8 > 9 > 10 > 11 > 12 > 13 > 14, if you don't consider the ones that I've played out of order. I have played 2, 3, and 5 but not until the Playstation release. I played 10-2 after I played 11, and I'm playing 13 now, since I got it for free and am interested in seeing if they fixed the series with 13-2. 10-2, 11, and 13 I haven't completed though, 10-2 because it was stupid, 11 because too much time needed to truly complete an MMO, and I'm still playing 13 on and off.

I make sure to play FF7 every year.

I beat every FF started playing FF 1 when i was 5 and im 25 >.>

Nah, once was enough for me. I don't mind moving on to better games.

Played FF1 for the first time in 1991, I was 10...playing every single one of them as they get released since...

That's about it.

I remember renting FF1 (US) when I was about 5 years old. I loved the game but wasn't old/mature enough to really 'get it' and didn't end up re-playing & finishing it until 15 years later.
In all those years in between, I had finished II & III (both US), Mystic Quest, VII, VIII & X. I put 100+ days worth of play time into XI and few dozen hours into XII but never 'finished' either of them.
I've recently purchased a PSP and have been working through IV(US II) and all it's post-game games.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine possessing the willpower to push through all of them one after another. You'd miss out on so many other great games!

i have finished all the main story games except FF13 (not counting MMOs) i have not finished them in order in fact FF3 was the last one i finished. however i have finished most games multiple times and can remember quite clearly the story and the gameplay of each game. imo FF1 and FF2 were quite forgettable FF3 was when things started to pick up. each game after 3 started to get better till FF6 (FF4 had a better story but FF5 had the better gameplay job system is one of the best thing FF ever came up with) once we get to FF6 and FF7 i really can't split these games on how good they were, they are both classics. if i got stuck on a dessert island i would want these 2 games with me. then FF8 and FF9 were ok/good games, but on the back of FF6 and FF7 they had huge shoes to fill and were somewhat overshadowed (even tho FF9 was bassicly a remake of FF4, and i thought FF4 had one of the best stories going) which then leads on to FF10, which i thought was another masterpiece every bit as good as FF6 and FF7. 10 had it all great story, great looking, great gameplay (the sphere grid was a cool way to level up it was new and trying to get round it made leveling up so addictive it should have been illegal) side quests were compelling monster hunting was genius. and SIN need i say more?? FF10 was great but that where the good times end. FF12 was the start of a down hill spiral that lead to FF13

of course this is just my opinion and views on the FF series. i know other ppl with have vastly different opinions on these games and how the series have progressed. but that my thoughts for you :D

I've been playing since the beginning in roughly the NA release order until FFVII where I started buying the JP releases first and then the NA releases -- finishing both.

FFI - NA : NES
FFIV - NA : SNES
FFVI - NA : SNES
FFVII - JP, NA : PS1
FFV - JP : SuperFamicom (Still have it in near-mint condition with the box and everything!)
FFVIII - JP, NA : PS1
FFT - NA : PS1
FFV, - NA: PS1
FFIX - JP,NA : PS1
FFI&II (dawn of souls) - NA : GBA
FFX - JP,NA : PS2
FFX-2 - NA : PS2
FFXI - NA:PC, PS2
FFXII - JP,NA : PS2
FFIII - NA : DS (and now iPhone)
FFXIII - NA: PS3
FFXIV - NA: PC

In addition I've played both Dissidia games, FFTA, FFTA2, FFXII:RW, FFVII:CC, FFIV(DS), FFIV & FFVI (PS1), and even Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (which was beyond terrible).

Overall, my favorites have been: (played many times): FFI, FFVI, FFIX, FFXI, and FFXII
My least favorites: (won't play again): FFII, FFV, FFX, and FFXIII.

I've played every numbered Final Fantasy including their respective sequels/prequels and a few spin-offs here and there. I haven't finished FFI-III since I got to those later in life and couldn't stand the sluggish pace of strict turn-based gameplay. Had I played through them when they came out I might have appreciated them more. I can't really say the game mechanics evolved as much as they were iterated upon post Final Fantasy IV. It wasn't really until they finally dropped Sakaguchi and Uematsu post FFIX that I really saw the series start to evolve in different ways.

FFX going linear and introducing the CTB system with the sequel revisiting a world rebuilt, while FFXI went straight up MMO, with FFXII doing interesting things with the story and making the world feel massive, then FFXIII giving the battle system a 5-hour energy drink and focusing on flawed characters and a generally bleak storyline. People will bitch and moan about which entry is the best and everything after it is crap, but watching the series evolve over the past ten years has been pretty exciting and I've loved every bit of it. What with Japanese development FINALLY catching up to next-gen development, it'll be interesting to see what they do with future entries in the series after Bioware and Bethesda have entered the console arena.

Sort of a sidebar to the actual topic, but meh.

On that note however, why do people seem to think FFVersusXIII, a game that at this point seems to be nothing but vaporware, is going to be the game to "revive the glory" of the Final Fantasy series anyway?

Well I've beaten them consecutively growing up. I've been through every 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,12,13.

I didn't bother with 10-2, and 11 doesn't count, never played tactics and never played any of the side games on gamecube or whatever else like crystal chronicles and all that. They were pretty much always all Final Fantasy especially after 4 I think, maybe 3, thats when a lot of staple mobs were in place and were consistently repeated as what we know as final fantasy. Final Fantasy 6 was the ultimate game though, really brought everything out and set a standard for Final Fantasy as how it should be as a complete game, and I think every FF after that followed that concept of a game. Albeit new battle system, story, characters but you know what I mean.

And like Lucifer, I'm sure all uber fans do this with one or two titles. I personally replay ff6 once a year, and sometimes 8 (Even though it was far from one of the good ones mechanically, it just hit me right personally.)

I also wanted to add that even though ff10 was a good game, I think it was a step back from ff9, just as ff8 was a stepback from ff7, other than those two, every game improved on the genre in my opinion. ff12 was a magnificent game and I guess I'm still deciding whether I think ff13 is a stepback to 12 or not. Most of you might say it is a stepback but I would think about it a bit more. ff13 tried a new route to how the game played out, a new route that SE has hinted they will follow from now on, so maybe in the coming titles we'll see a master blaster as a result, who knows?

I would actually love to do an evolution playthrough. I pretty much bounce around between 2 or 3 FF games at all times.
Currently playing XIV, XIII (prep for XIII-2) and FFIV: TAY.
And a little Kingdom Hearts II on the side (mostly gummi ship fighting)

This would be a good way to dust off my collection, and probably save me a fortune on games next year :D

The only FF games I've actually enjoyed (aside from XI/XIV) were VIII, X, and X-2. Granted, I've only played 7 up to 13 and somewhat of whichever ones were on FFA/FFC and maybe one day I'll play the rest.

4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 11 (didnt complete all expacs...), 12, didnt finish 13. starting 1. and now, maybe complete from 1 to last, like you OP. FF for life

SquareEnix has tried very hard to evolve the genre into something new and at the same time profitable, but instead of simply improving the foundation; they sought to remove them. What a stupid move this was.

When I was younger I used to think about doing this [or at least the ones relevant to me] every year, normally around Christmas time.

I do that for most part every year i start new saves in each of the FFs in my spare time when bored with everything else, only one i never played was FF3, never came to ps1-3 just fisnhed FFXII last month. but this year alone I did FF 1,2,4,5,6,7,DoC,CC,10,10-2,12. Every new years 1st game I ever play is a new save of FF7, That I play though out the whole year. Some time next year I'll play and beat 8 and 9, and prob reply 13 once im done with 13-2.

I started playing them back on FF2 which is now 4 on SNES. Enjoy them all. 11 took the most time clearly casue well its a MMO lol

I don't think I've played consecutively.

Went, FF4 -> FF1 -> FF6 -> FF7 -> FF5 -> FF3 -> FF2 -> FF9 -> FF10 -> FF12 -> FF13.

I leave out FF11 and FF14 due being MMOs with no set finishing point.
And no FF8.

I don't think I would want to replay the originals again. FF1, 2, 3, and 4 got remakes which I may pick up on the PSP in time to begin the Consecutive Challenge!

(But I think I'm gonna take my time as usual and not do that FF4 8-hour challenge spiel).

Uhh lets see, with the exception of XI and XIV which you can't technically beat (Done all their stories though), I have beaten each main Final Fantasy retro titles at least 15+ times. FFX and FFXII I would say about 5 times, and FFXIII twice. Yea, because I am awesome like that. :(

I started with 7, 8 , 9 and 10 then over last 2 years have gone from final fantasy 1 -9 and am currently on my replay of 10 which will be followed by x-2 , somewhere in here i am going have to fit in the crystal chronicle series of games and many handhelds but been focus on mainline games so far.
Plus my replay of 8 was a highlight , beating omega weapon for first time and survive lv 99 final boss with something like 10 hp left , doing crazy damage with lionheart but my summons well under-level compared to first time i played the game.
9 was a lot easier to finish , i had problems with it first time i played it.
3 i had to play on ds and the final boss was a panic - no save point, lol fighting all 4 then cloud of darkness that was most worrying boss for me.

#I should note that i have played other games such as them shooter things lol while playing these games but played the final fantasy games in order

The ones i played so far:

VII > VIII > IX > IV > V > X > X-2 > XI > CC > XII > XIII > XIV

If i got some time i will get the ones, i havent played yet, too. I just love this series.

final fantasy 1 was first released in 1987, making next year final fantasy's 25 birthday. they should bring out a collectors pack FF1-12. would be nice to have all my final fantasy's on one console (ps3 plz)

A person in my linkshell in FFXI named Climhazard played I-VI every year. He'd take a break from the game to do his yearly FF run.

I fell in love with the Final Fantasy series when I picked up FFVI for my SNES (was called FFIII-US then) back in 94. I was 19, and in college. Good times.
