So I finally came back to FFXIV now that patch 1.20 is out, and as far as what it looks like compared to when it first came out way over a year ago is amazing, i love it so far. The only thing I do not like, which I do not now if it is FFXIV or all MMO's these days is the reason i loved FFXI is because there seemed to be a community in it, people talked to people. I can't say that this is FFXIV's fault because FFXI seems to me to of been the last MMO ever made where people play to play with other people, why not just play a console game if you wanna play alone?
So im just wondering is there any more of a community in this game at higher lv.s? because I do understand that the only people that really play are people that are really in to Final Fantasy, or should i just wait a year for 2.0 to come out and go back to FFXI? Which game do you guys all think is more put together?

FF11 forced you to go through a lot of hurdles to get a sizeable group together in order to complete every little thing. I like FF11 but I never liked that aspect of it, and I'm currently having more genuine fun in 14 than I ever did in my years of 11. Community wise, people tend to keep to their LS's but are usually approachable/helpful. Find a LS and ask other people to team up and the game should open up for you.

I'm sure we will see an influx of ppls post xmas and there will be more lower lvl ppl to play with. Although the high lvl ppl will still outnumber the low for awhile. Im hoping the closer we get to v2 membership will pick up since the game is progressing nicely. Good press should help it out.
As for xi...I played that since 2005 and quit a few months ago to full time xiv. Tanaka has destroyed vana'diel with a poorly designed aby bomb and its going to take too much to recover that game. Frankly I dont see how that man still has a job at se. I see a bright future for xiv but not for xi. Also idk what server you are on but my xi server (Asura) was horrid. Give xiv a shot. Alot of the current content will disappear with v2 so you will miss out on alot of unrepeatable stuff if you go ^^ -

Thx MicahZerrshia that is exactly what i wanted to know, after reading my original post i can see i could of done a better job of explaining what i meant, but you seemed to of gotten it perfectly so ty, also as for FFXI i played it from NA launch all the way up to the last mini add on so i saw basically everything, except for any of the abysea, and i did hear that abysea killed the game. I hope the community lightens up on XIV i dont feel like paying monthly for a solo game <,< but ill give it a while i suppose.

2. The graphics look horizontally stretched
3. Dragoons have pets
4. Elitist
5. Economy is bad

What turns me off from FFXIV:
1. Until level 25, the best way to get XP is by grinding.
2. The storyline is spread a bit thin and hardly helps in leveling up, so between each set of story content (for the mainline, non-GC story at least), it's broken up by long stretches of grinding
3. Levequests are the main source of income rather than story-driven quests
4. Crafting is fun at first but quickly turns just as boring as DoW/DoM grinding
5. Lack of social interaction
So between the two...I'd say stick with FFXI if you don't mind missing out on the chance to give feedback/experience once-in-a-lifetime content.
EDIT: Also ToR is meh IMO. SWG Pre-CU was way better :( My favorite MMO ever. -

FFXIV is only a solo game if you choose to play it solo. If you take a little inititive to form pts for lvling and strongholds or darkholds you can pretty much find ppl. Granted immediately before and after a patch, like now, it is a little harder to find ppl to lvl with but its not impossible.
Also there are alot of ppl who are new who have no ls and dont know where to find one or what to do. A newbie ls is always a good thing to start to get the ball rolling, learn the game and get exp both for yourself and others. I was completely unhappy with xi until I took the inititive and save up the 8k gil lol and buy a ls to start up my own group. Ended up playing with some of those ppl for yrs.
As I said post xmas we may see an influx of ppl with the game as cheap as it is during xmas sales so that starter ls would be a fairly smart route to go if you cannot find an established one. It will also help to retain the new players. If you want to trash your current char and start over in mysidia I will help you get the ball rolling on a new player ls and getting some stuff done.
And to Suzaku...if your graphics in xi were horizontally stretched that was an issue with your config and an easy fix ^^ also yay for drg pets! Drg here need a lil pet wyvern too! -

Tried Swtor and it was Aion in space so been playing a free Flash game called Wakfu with LS mates. Doing our best to all stay together, at least we like each other lol. Like most, the having of a LS is painful especially right now with Holidays coming and then billing starting.
Once all that has come and gone, you will be left with the hardcore players that want to see XIV succeed. If SE/Yoshi/Devs can't get it done by then end of next year and retain what they have or bring in the new, this will hurt a lot of fans and of course SE's business. -

It was painful in FFXI to get parties for anything, which is why people (are forced to) builds stronger ties and better communities.
The breakdown in communication is due to accommodating to casual play - Why bother building ties when I can do pretty much everything alone?
Unfortunately casual players >>> other types of players in numbers so that's the path MMOs are taking.
I would blame it on WoW but they did make a heck of a lot of $$$ from it. :p -

Because it was on the console i think they had the best UI for a mmorpg and since FFXIV came out on the PC first i was worried that they where going to do the whole PC MMORPG thing and just throw tons of crazy UI boxes in there and make only about 5% of the screen visible.Quote:
