Yes.

I think so.
Yep, since in 2010 release, this is perfectly acceptable for a Vanilla release and by now (1 year later) we'd be getting our first expansion pack which would have dumped even more content/areas etc etc.
Yes .
Yes I would have.. and tbh I wouldnt have paid if they put fees up @ launch with alot of stuff missing
No.
It's still 50% of a game.
Yes.
Saying its 50% of the game is just stupid. What killed xiv launch was the lack of content for level 50's. If game was released now we would have some content to look forward to other than leveling every class and craft in the game.
I would have IF it were released as is with a clear road map for the future AND release numbers type of population. The game still has a ways to go to be on par with an average MMO release but yes i would have in sept 2010 have been happy with THIS as its release state.
I want to say yes, but I would be lying. Even though I will be paying come Jan. 6th because I enjoy my time in-game and the friends I've made, I think 1.21 will be "launch worthy." Like I said at the announcement of billing, I don't believe they're far off the mark from being ready to start subscriptions, but I feel they should have given us time to try out Jobs so we could have gotten a true feel for the complete battle system first. So realistically I wouldn't have wanted to, but inevitably would have due to the enjoyment I've gotten from the game.
Hmm i always thought to ask this. I probably would pay
Yup, in fact I would've gone as far as to canceling my ff11 sub sooner :D
Yes easily.
For everyone with all level 1 classes, there is easily 5-6 months of content in this game with more being planned in the near future. It is perfect acceptable for a launch and P2P in its current state.
The issue now is lack of content for endgame, but it would not be an issue if we where all level 1.
hard to say really, in all honesty jobs are missing part of the equation, and content is still far off, id prolly give it a month, but the amount of actual exploration story and world development are really small. sooo i dunno, maybe i would but id probably only pay for one month if they didnt add a lot more actual things to do. back in the first month of release i wanted content, in fact if i remember correctly more people wanted content than battle changes, and while i see he decided to remake the game completely, and thus content was a later plan, its still really lacking content now.
There is nothing to do in this game but grind exp, and grind items, there isnt a good development of the actual world and story, there is very little to explore that has any actual content attached to it, and very little outside of exping at all. I dont think the entire game should just be about leveling up with no context.
so its still lacking and will still have rpg fans walking away sooner or later.
Another reason I would answer YES I would have paid for the current game at release sept 2010 is I was EXCITED!!! about the game then at this point we are 2 days short of 15 months of retail and THIS is where we are. The excitement the wonder the awe the hope is mostly gone.
It sounds like people are answering this as a level 50 player instead of what they would be at launch: A level1 noob.
With the state of the game as of 1.20, it's fully functional as a launch title and would have succeeded far better than it's initial launch.
Pretend you don't know anything about 2.0, level 50 or either Primal fight. Just that you know all this content actually exists.
While yes it did take a long time to hit level 50, people still did it. It could still take the casual player about 4-6 weeks if they joined a linkshell that had parties every night. But that's in the past so w/e.
Too many if posts on this forum. How about this one. If you don't like the game just fuck off already. :D
I think this will eventually be remedied. SE is kinda stuck between a rock and hard place with this, as the forums have dictated you have a certain portion of the playerbase screaming for content, stories, side quests, endgame dungeons, etc. And the other portion are screaming for game mechanic adjustments, UI changes, server structure overhaul, etc. Different strokes for different folks, y'know?
And it's quite clear that SE is trying to appease both crowds, but because of this progression seems slow and dull. I think once 1.21 drops, having three strongholds, several dungeons, three primal fights, etc. will be great for endgame, but I understand what you're saying with the overall game, it's hard to find a lot of interest because the content for mid-level is so spread out, you have to level all classes to 36 just to receive the full story in Eorzea, not to mention your sidequests & GC quests, a lot of grinding and pushing for carrots on a stick at the lower levels.
Unfortunately unless you find a great social LS to be part of, I can see how starting out this game may be a put off for some... but, I also don't feel SE is concerned even remotely about bringing in new players until 2.0 anyway.
Yes I'd pay, the game is 500% better then launch day, and i was here day 1. I know how it was, and how it is now, is MUCH MUCH better. Would be a great launch in this state. enough content to keep ppl happy and the game works.
I really think PS3 and v2.0 will be a hit at the rate yoshi has been going. +1 devs, thanks so much for your hard work
Yes .
i would have paid with the way the game was at launch, but would not have paid if it had been released the way it is now.
i am not saying the game is bad, but just that i enjoyed it more the original way.
I would've paid starting with 1.18, not to mention I have a stockpile of Crysta still waiting to be used since pre-launch.
The game would be completely different than it is now if it were released a bit over a year than it was released. For 1, the Darkhold wouldn't have lame gear that makes no sense due to Materia. Story gaps would have probably been fixed. Other certain things would have been added or removed.
Either way, they're building on the game for players currently playing, rather than people that are going to play. Edit* I'm referring to content when I say this. I know the overall revamp is for future players.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel the real question should have been "Would you guys pay for FFXIV if they had spent another year in development *cough* Takana *cough*"?
The game would be nothing like it is now. I doubt it would be as good. A sad truth is that I believe FFXIV HAD to fail in order to become a good game.
That said, if the game somehow ended up in this exact state at launch, I would pay for it. It also makes sense to not have jobs released at this point, as the first patch releases them. We just hit 50 for the first time, update comes out, we get to unlock jobs, discover new abilities. It would make sense.
yes I would have
I'm pretty sure I remember reading that Tanaka had full control of the release date. It was over a year ago that I read this, but I can probably dig up the link.
Edit* that doesn't even matter one bit though. What matters is, Tanaka being in charge still.
Yes /10 bacon attribute
no, still too many simple things that make a game great that cant even be done now. The world is copy paste crap (that was a HUGE downpoint for people) no personal area, linkshell options are a joke, a market system that wasnt built to make you want to spend more money each month, still not much too much to do...ect
i would have waited a while and seen what it became, of course back when it launched i was drooling for this game after so many great years in FFXI, but it cant even touch that game at its 1 year point.
This might seems strange but...
I would've paid back in january when i started to play (improvements since beta which i played a bit but not much due to computer config being a bit low) if it was required.
If the game was released the way it is today and i'd have to start from blank with no 2.0 incoming, i wouldn't. Well, i wouldn't buy the game in the first place. It changed but not for something better imo.
and that goes back to my original statement i enjoyed the game more on release than i do now. my favorite thing that was done since the game was released was the original 5 nm's that tanaka and his team released, in december i believe it was. that kept people busy for months. nothing that has been released since then has lasted over a few weeks before people had completed everything and had all the gear they wanted out of it.
100% YES!!
