If we nerfed SCH's DPS rotation to practically mirror WHM/AST

Why don't we just nerf WHM/AST healing to SCH levels? If the solution to AST is not to nerf but to buff the others, where was this logic when SE "balanced" SCH? We should just nerf WHM/AST until the healing is comparable. Revert Cure 2 and Cure buffs, remove all healing magic up on AST sects and make Aspected Benefic give a 100% shield rather than 300%.

Oh and we should remove Holy and Gravity so everyone is the same.

There, we're balanced.

So does AST/WHM get a 0 GCD 0 upkeep cost regen machine that carries its own complement of skills to compensate?

Sure they can have that. But in order to have it, they have to lose Medica 2/Aspected Helios. They must also lose Cure 2 and Benefic 2. Cure 3 also needs to go, as does Earthy Star. Collective Unconscious no longer applies a regen but you can move during it. Assize no longer heals or does damage as well. Are we having fun yet?

It's just common sense really. If one class is seen as OP and is nerfed, then when another class is seen as OP, logic dictates we nerf them too. There are no place for buffs.

Except it doesn't suck. Actual viable constructive suggestions are better than pointless crying and moaning and yes the WHM stuff was hyperbolic and overblown as well.

No doubt one day they'll just take all our DPS toys away, and we will be forced to compare between book smacks, staff thumps, and card-paper cuts.

Incidentally the first two are blunt, but are the cards counted as slashing?

I've posted many times about what they can change to SCH to make them good. Several topics in fact.

1. Fey Union's potency needs to be significantly higher. Considering you get 3 ticks of this per minute (roughly, who knows how RNGFlow will go), a measly 5-6k is a sad joke, especially given the poor range and the animation dance required to even use it. The range should be 100y (like Bahamut) or at the very least, 30y like Embrace.

2. Excogitation is unnecessary. It doesn't reward planning nearly enough, and has poor synergy with other healers. 50 more potency Over Lustrate? Thanks. Saves me a GCD when things get dicey? Lustrate is 1 second recast. There is no situation where things are so dicey that I can't spare 1 second. If such a situation exists, no healer but SCH can do this.

3. Adloquium is a crappier Aspected Benefic. Not instant cast, costs more, weaker in every situation aside from a crit and even then, it's barely higher compared to a Aspected Benefic crit. You can bring up Deployment Tactics, but we can't fish for crits as reliably anymore with higher MP costs and crit being nerfed in general. Realistically, spread crit-lo is nice but not something you try and plan for.

4. Succor costs the same as Cure 3. Why doesn't it have the same potency then? Pick one. Lower Succor's MP cost to rival Medica or buff Succor's potency to 550.

5. Dissipation has poor synergy with Aetherpact. So we'll gain stacks and lose the fairy who benefits from us using stacks? Have to waste, at best 1 GCD and waste a valuable CD (swiftcast) or hard cast (which we won't do anyways). This skill is terrible and is only ever useful for minor DPS gains (very minor) and emergencies. It hurts you in the long run and is far too punishing. Resummon the Fairy after Dissipation wears off would be nice.

6. Embrace was nerfed for the wrong reason. Fairy shined in 3.X because Cleric Stance didn't effect them. They had 100% uptime on a nice heal. This mean that SCH had the easiest time DPSing and Healing at the same time (arguably still have it the easiest, by a much smaller margin). However, SCH's strength was their ability to DPS while Healing. With Cleric Stance no longer required to stance-dance, the fairy's main strength in 3.X is gone. So why are they nerfed? This greatly lowers SCH's HPS and is unneeded.

7. Quickened Aetherflow is garbage. A flat CDR of even 10 seconds would be better than this RNG crap. Statistically speaking, it shaves off 8 seconds roughly, but with how it works, you're just going to have bursts of unfun (or very fun) inconsistency. Just make it flat and stop this RNG nonsense.

8. Our AoE sucks. We don't have a level 40 job skill anymore. Give us an AoE here or at least a trait. Anything man. We got jack here.

Notice how the dude who told us about our free regen is suddenly silent. Oh no, we have a free regen, so OP! Rubiss has actually made some decent points, has pointed out some obvious unbalanced things. If you want to be "OP" like a Scholar, you should be prepared to hand in most of your candy. That being said, having tried Scholar on Lakshmi and Susano extreme yesterday, I don't feel like the class is as bad as some people would make you believe.

- Embrace is still stronger than Regen and it still saves you a GCD so DPSing feels more fluent on a Scholar.
- Chain Strategem is a nice ability, but I still think it should be 20 seconds instead of 15.
- Excognition was decent, especially on Pull of Light when healers have to run to the back with their circles. Still think it should not cost an Aetherflow stack and should be put on a higher cooldown.
- Fey Union would be decent if the pet could still Embrace, or if the potency was a bit higher, and/or the distance for it to reach your target was not as low.
- Succor potency is too low for its MP cost as is Adloquium.

As for dungeons. It's painfully obvious that our lack of AoE damage is disgusting. This for me, if one of the main things that should change about Scholar. Make Broil II a 100 aoe potency move and let it coexist with Broil I which has a 230 potency. I also think Physick should have a higher potency than it currently has.

This. SCH's healing output IS behind the curve, it takes 30 seconds looking over logs to realise this, I can only assume that SE were banking on the extra CDs (aka Dissipation and Fey Illumination) offsetting it's lower potency. But on the flipside, it's inability to be even remotely as useful WHM or AST in 4 man roulettes is sadly even more noticeable.

Nerf AST, yes. Nerf WHM? Do you have any idea what that would do? We have no utility, so we rely on our inate strength. Nerfing that would just kill us while SCHs can go on lookin pretty with Chain Strategem.

I would like to see plenary indulgence give a confession aura with a range based on the stacks of 10y, 15y, and 20y respectively giving a bloodbath type effect and an additional 50 potency holy damage for all those within the aura on auto attacks and abilities/spells. Maybe not that exact formula but something along the lines for raid utility and tank sustain.

AST should not have the base shield percentage increases or they should be replicated on SCH if not only on SCH at a lower base shield percentage for starters on a balance between the two standpoint.

I've said it before, and I probably sound like a broken record now, but I really hate the way SE balances things.
They can never reach a midpoint with anything, it's either nerf EVERYTHING or buff EVERYTHING until they're either underpowered or overpowered respectively.

SCH was a monster yes, but what exactly was the point of making SCH so weak and AST so strong? They just switched spots now. But it's worse because AST is better than BOTH healers.

SCH was not a monster outside of being able to sustain DPS while in cleric stance. Everything including heal potencies has basically remained unchanged besides a few mp cost increases for Succor and Adloquium. Our healing has always been this low, literally the only thing that made people think SCH was OP was because we could more easily sustain a DPS stance inside dungeons and some other content. Now even that is somewhat un-doable.

Personally, as someone who came from WoW in 2.0, and only totally dropped that game recently I don't like these new balance trends. Ast's hybrid identity and the balance card are the problems. Not being able to dps while a terrible ai you have to micro to godly levels to get function out.

As much as SE likes to throw around that they don't balance around Healer damage they need to either start, or get rid of it (Hopefully not get rid of it, it's one of the few fun healing aspects in this game.). Having a blind spot in class balance will only exacerbate this issue.

Seriously this. I don't know why they're so hellbent on not calculating healer DPS contribution and DPS utility, but it's killing the healer balance.
These are not just minor issues either, AST is taking over the identity of WHM and SCH completely. It has overtuned buffs as well as shields stronger than SCH and heals as strong and stronger than WHM. There's no drawbacks to the job anymore. They have everything they could possibly ever want. Heck, RNG on cards isn't even as bad anymore.

I don't mean to sound overly dramatic or anything, but balance issues this big is what makes people unsubscribe from the game. And I would be lying if I said that thought haven't crossed my mind quite a few times. At least until they fix this imbalance that's been looming above healers since 3.0.

Fairy abilities all have a 2-second cast with accompanying animation that turns off the "regen" of embrace for a minimum of 3 seconds per use, and while the SCH themselves are not hampered by the cast times (outside of Rouse, which triggers a GCD), the fairy is riddled with its own responsiveness and range issues, as well as reduced potency due to it being a pet. Furthermore, the "regen" as you call it does not in fact activate if targets are over 80% health, and takes 2-seconds to cast when they drop under with a 3-second cooldown, and while it effects a single target it is difficult to control who it heals as it defaults to whoever has the lowest health in range of it (often not the tank in AoE situations). I understand you desperately want to make the fairy out to be some amazing advantage to justify your point, but it's not; Eos is three healing abilities that each last 20 seconds with either a 60 or 120 second cooldown (WD being 60, FI and FC 120) with a passive regen-variant that can be launched from a separate "platform" rather than centered on the SCH itself, and that's all it is. It's a neat utility that requires both placement management and a resummoning mana cost, but not something that somehow trivializes WHM or AST healing toolkits. In any situation where the fairy itself was "OP", a WHM could just as easily handled it with Divine Seal + Regen and Medica II, or in dungeons a Holy Stun, the difference being they had to be out of Cleric Stance to cast their heals. Prior to HW this was exacerbated by Lustrate being a a percent heal and castable while in Clerics, but this was changed at the start of 3.0.

Your other points were certainly advantages of the class, though. Mitigation was their role, and ogcd burst healing the compensation for not having any effective spammable heal (which they still lack). And while they didn't have infinite mana in raid settings (they still needed mage's ballad if healing and let no one tell you differently), they could literally DPS for days with constant low-mana cost casting which is something neither WHM nor AST were able to keep up for anywhere near as long without going out of mana. Most of that was due to the DoT ability focus, but the aetherize mechanic and energy drain were an obvious supplement for it. Regardless with their limited healing output and focus on burst heals gated by cooldowns, they were by design a perfect off-healer class, obviously able to support the primary healer's more efficient healing output with supplements and weakening effects. They made an excellent second half of a team until the party's gear level reached the point where the greater healing levels weren't required, in which case they could take on that role as well. And while HW sought to enhance SCH's ability to main-heal with gated cooldown abilities, their "bad things are happening" recovery still leaves much to be desired.

Technically all content could be cleared with two of any healer, be it double WHM or doulble AST or double SCH, but WHM/AST + SCH covered bases better and allowed for easier progression. You wanted the SCH because mitigating raid damage allowed you to get past mechanics at lower gear levels, and you wanted a primary healer for better HP recovery in between constant and repeated AoE booms. It worked out well, and if there was any actual problem in the design, it was that AST played so much like a WHM that it couldn't replace SCH's role in this meta as easily as it could WHM.

During early A12S kills, my SCH partner literally couldn't raise or he would go OOM during the fight. AST had it far better during 3.4, I deliberately ran myself to near OOM at the start of the last two adds but aligned Shroud, Synastry, Lightspeed and CO to ensure I could both solo heal them and regenerate most of my MP back in the process.

No. SCH was really OP in HW, like REALLY OP. They had insanely MP efficient everything; damage, aoe, healing. 4 mitigation cooldowns that helped immensely in progression, especially learning A3S and A4S. On top of some really powerful OGCDs. You need to understand AST was trash at the start of HW and probably has the biggest buff list in the game if you look through patch notes from 3.0 to 3.4 where the balance team decided it was time to destroy all common sense and logic and make the Balance card ascend into godhood.

SCH's damage and healing as always been lower than WHM, and healing and MP management lower than AST. SCH got the position as off-healer/DPS Healer because it was practically designed for it, not because it was some overpowered monster.

SCH's DPS rotation was largely DoTs, which have low MP costs. That combined with part of it's MP management tools (Energy Drain) actually being part of the DPS rotation, meant that SCH could DPS indefinitely and be nearly MP-positive while doing so even if thier actual damage was relatively low, as opposed to WHM for example, who could output much higher damage, but only for about 2-3 minutes before they ran completely dry on MP. As for actual heals, SCH only has 3 on the GCD. Physick pre-SB was just a straight Cure clone, with the same potency and MP cost (it now still shares the MP cost afaik, but is 50 potency lower). Adlo and Succor both have absurd MP costs for how little they heal, and while they do have the shield aspect, that doesn't exactly help when trying to top people off. The only other heals SCH has are tied to Aetherflow, so are gated at 3 uses between them per minute, but that allowed them to quickly drop cleric and pop them between attacks. A SCH in HW who was spending significant time healing would go out of MP in about 1:30 on average, so I don't know where you got this idea that they had MP efficient healing.

Was it really? They had almost endless efficiency up until a point (aka the things Eos could cover mostly by herself) but beyond that threshold things went downhill pretty fast for them, SCH's value was also emphasised by Noct AST being comparative trash even whilst Dia was considered to be top notch. WHMs raw throughput was as big a factor as SCH's mitigation for A3S. Looking back at A4S, I'm not really sure why AST didn't get a little bit of traction back there but then I killed it fairly late so it might have been a throughput thing again like it was for early A3S.

I understand this well but thanks for your concern (I was reluctantly standing in for a server/world progression team as a SCH during A1S-A3S). My point you quoted was referring to 3.4 just incase you missed the memo. And I'd say most of those buffs were absolutely warranted. As you state, the glaring issue here is that Balance has no equal elsewhere.

Yoshi P said himself that SCH was overpowered(as well as WAR) and savage fights were basically designed around them, they weren't going to be touched until SB. Also WHM damage was only higher in strictly single target, if there was anything a SCH could Bane to it would win over.

Now for heals, if you conveniently forgot about Lily and and her healing steroid CD, Rouse + WD every minute and magic rampart CD, sure a SCH would run OOM quickly if he himself had to keep the group topped. Efficiency doesn't just come from mana costs and spamming your AoE heal though. A SCH who properly micro'd his fairy and his healing CDs rarely found himself OOM.

Actually, they were MP inefficient in everything:
Broil costed 530 MP for 170 potency, which cost more and was less potent than Malefic II and Stone III
Succor cost more MP compared to Medica/Helios
Lustrate, which is the only equivalent to Cure II and Benefic II was not "free" of cost. Aetherflow stacks not used on Energy Drain is 884 MP not received. Or in other words: One use of Lustrate "costs" 884 MP

They simply had a much better tool to recover MP with. Unlike Shroud of Saints and Luminiferous Aether, Aetherflow actually scales with your MP pool. If anything, Scholars were like the Warriors among the healers; a kit too perfect for balance. Scholars practically had everything required for raid environment: (group) mitigation on demand, (small) damage buff for the party with Selene, MP sustain that scales with their attributes, burst healing on demand. The only thing that made Scholars stand out more than it should was the ludicrous GCD efficiency the fairy provided. A White Mage would need to apply Regen every 21 seconds. In a 5 minute encounter that's good for 14 GCDs. That's 14 GCDs the Scholar doesn't have to spend with the fairy present.

In a way, it wasn't that Scholar was "overpowered" in the most absolute form. Their kit, like warrior back then, was simply too perfect as everything the raid environment needed was in a single package

Yoshi-P also doesn't seem to understand basic class play if you watch his brief forays into PVP during the last FanFest. (He ran around and did basically nothing in the developer fight and when he did he didn't even seem to understand his core rotation.) Likewise with some of the buffs and nerfs across the board in SB I'd argue a lot of the development team is out of touch as well - as much as I love and respect all of them - given the newest skills to DRG kit and the fact that all the utility of MCH was stripped into role abilities with no potency increase to offset their lowered importance. SCH was only ever overpowered in the hands of a good player, you need to know the fights to have any capability of going above and beyond - which was true even in Heavensward. Punishing people who actually paid attention and learned is not balance. An average SCH still had nothing on the heal or damage potency of WHM or AST.

Likewise with some of the buffs and nerfs across the board in SB I'd argue a lot of the development team is out of touch as well - as much as I love and respect all of them - given the newest skills to DRG kit and the fact that all the utility of MCH was stripped into role abilities with no potency increase to offset their lowered importance. SCH was only ever overpowered in the hands of a good player, you need to know the fights to have any capability of going above and beyond - which was true even in Heavensward. Punishing people who actually paid attention and learned is not balance. An average SCH still had nothing on the heal or damage potency of WHM or AST.

His knowledge on healer are clearly weak if he really thought launching like this was okay. There were no parses done, that's for sure.

your definition of suck must be different from mine, what are the strong points of scholar currently? because as it stands now there is a healer in the game that can do everything scholar can but more efficient.

Seeing how the AST/SCH combo is still currently stronger than the WHM/AST combo, not really.

An ast brings stronger base shields and cards at the moment but suffers from lower personal damage

A sch brings a more robust tool kit with very strong answers for different scenarios and solid dps

Ast is still a better WHM replacement than a SCH replacement as their regen kit is a bigger deal when fused with sch stuff and cards than their shield kit fused with whm regens.

White mages are bummed out still for a reason.

To be effective with a sch atm though requires you to use a good chunk of your toolkit at specific moments and timings which is a bit harder to play than the other two. But there is nothing wrong with a healer that isn't straight forward

Scholar was almost perfect.
If changes had to be done drastically, it wasn't on him but on others healers.

Instead, they messed everything up and now scholar have some issues (they took the problem in the wrong way...)
