What does the scenario skip potion not give you?

There is a lot of missing information about how the scenario jump potion works. While it does say it gives a few things, it doesn't say what happens to the other quest rewards you'd normally get for doing all the main scenario quests. Can all of these be purchased from the calamity salvage vendor?

I think the OP is trying to weigh whether or not it's worth it to get the jump potion and whether or not they'll get the items from leveling on the salvager would influence their decision.

Yes, that doesn't state whether the various minions and other quest-only items will be available for purchase or to acquire later. I used the job jump potion and it did not provide the AF 1 that a person normally gets as they progress to level 50. I was able to purchase that from the calamity salvage vendor, so no harm done. I have no such assurances for the scenario jump potion.

It's not a reward. It's a purchase. You are buying completion of the main story and everything that entails. It does not say anywhere in its cost that the player forfeits unique quest only items as a result of the purchase.

Experience points, it doesn't give you any exp. You gotta do that separate or buy the job jump potion.

You get everything from the msq.
You get all minions mounts and titles automatically. (note you get them directly. you don't buy them or get the items for them they just appear straight away under the minions and mounts categorys)
Quest items like the uldahn earings (voice of the lust) and such you can buy from the salvager

You don't get any of the 24 man raids unlocked Or the various Hildebrand duties like battle on the big bridge.
Nor do you get any of the extreme primal trials or coil and Alexander raids

You do get all the roulettes though but not the mapping the realm achievements for the various dungeons included in them.

You also get all the aether currents for heavensward areas but the quests aren't completed so you'll still see them in the various zones.. and you still need to do the quest if you want your grand company choco and other mounts to fly.

other things you have to unlock yourself are Gold saucer, hunts, retainer ventures, stylist, residential teleports and PVP

Oh just checked my alt. you also get any Orchestration rolls you get from the MSQ as well.

I wish I knew this before, I would have bought scenario skip when I started my alt... guess it's not too late.

Idk, skipping a large portion of a story I've already done would give me plenty of satisfaction, and I would highly respect myself for making the wise decision to not burn myself out trying to drag myself through the slow 2.0 story again.

The tedium of having to grind to catch up to play current content with your friends.

This if you work it out the new skip works out at like $0.04 for every quest skipped. For an alt class that's an absolute bargain I thought

I'll never understand why someone would pay for a game then pay even more money on top of that to skip playing the game they just paid for. It's illogical.

You've been here since 2014. Your view on this differs fundamentally from someone just getting into the game.

Most MMORPGs these days, more than a few years old, have Level Boost Potions. Why? Because they all have the same issue. This issue is present in every level-based MMORPG. As the game ages, the aggregate moves up in average level and forward in content progression. This means that the early game gets worse and worse as the game gets older.

Because games bring in less and less players "at a time" as they age, this disproportionately affects new players. It means a game designed with the social component being at its center feels like a very badly developed single player RPG game to them. Many of them burn out and quit.

The story skip potions are necessary in this game only because progression is gated by the MSQ. Otherwise, they'd only need a Level Boost - like EQ, EQ2, WoW, Rift, GW2, etc.

Also, something about how the quests and cut scenes function mechanically feels like it slows you down considerably when questing in this game. I feel like I get less value per hour out of this game than many others. It IS a subscription game, after all.

If it will take a casual 3 months to level to 60 on limited playtime, than that is not really any worse value than just paying (almost the same amount of cash) for the Story and Level Skip Potions...

The bad thing is that a player would have to reroll just to go back and do that content, which wouldn't be the case in other games - where they can go back and work through the lore - even if the quests are grey/low level. Because the MSQ is used as a mechanic to limit character progression, it means you must take it off the table completely (aside from character rerolls/alts) if you offer any mechanic to allow those characters to skip forward to "current content." It would have been nice if it weren't this way, that way players could always go back on their second jobs and level through it casually after they have caught up to their friends/family/whatever on their character's first/main job.

I like the content design and some aspects of the community in this game. The smaller party sizes and 8 man raiding (WoW ditched 10 mans /mourn ), but I did have exponentially more fun leveling/questing in EQ2, WoW, and GW2 than I am currently having in FFXIV. Something about how it's all integrated together feels super grindy to me.

Another thing to add on and keep in mind is that you are automatically put into the grand company of your starting city. If you want to change you have to reach second lieutenant. You could either change that way or pick a starting class that starts in the city of your GC of choice and just switch to your preferred class at level 10.

I bought a story skip potion for an alt character I made on a server to play with a friend. I don't have the time to go through the story again

I got the potion for an alt. As said, you get mounts and minions you get through the MSQ. This does include the unlocks for the HM primals, but not the extreme versions. Same for the HW version.
I've been finding there's a LOT of unlocks to go through. From the whole crystal tower series, all the extreme level 50 primals, the level 60 primals, the sky pirate set, Alexander, Warring triad, ect.
Not to mention the whole anima weapon series, although things are mostly streamlined in that a lot of the harder to get items like the crystals and such are now buyable with poetics. That said, you still have to run through dungeons and crank up the light in the weapons.

I said this to someone else, I'll say it here. They could stop putting out content for this game from here on out, and I'd STILL be working to do everything in it.
But then again, I am a slowspokie

Additionally, if it matters, you still have to do Beast Tribe unlocks/quests the old-fashioned way.

You gain everything that is tied to MSQ. Sidequests and what not, you don't get.

The GC thing is a bummer though, but it doesn't take long to get to second lieutenant.

Because once you do it there is no point in doing it again.

Even if you didn't do it once, not everyone cares about the story. I have zero interest in the story and have not watched a single scene all the way through. I just skip all the story, hit max level and started crafting which is the only part of this game I enjoy.

I imagine it doesn't give a sense of accomplishment. It does give you a boost to 60, all class quests and story quests completed and 300k gil though.

Do you get the Scion Outfit Tatatu made for you or do you have to go to the calamity salvager?

Calamity Salvager, under quest rewards or.. whatever the tab was called, iirc. I had the same question when I boosted one of my alts up to skip the absolute tedium that is the 2.1+ questline.

Which by the way, most people don't seem to get the idea that a majority of skip potion buyers are people who have been here for years and do not want to grind the same tedious fetch quests over and over again every time they dare make an alt. :p

I'm almost convinced. I want to get these for alts like the majority of folk here. I have had these alts for some time and started progress, but never finished. The farthest I have is just past King Moogle Mog. If I were to use the story skip potion, would any progress of unlocked primals, GC rank (2nd Lieu.), recruit ranks, gear & Gil be reset or lost?

Conversely, MSQ was a major driving force to continue playing, which links this MMO to the Final Fantasy franchise. For players that enjoy the many facets of world building, games like WoW, which have a bad reputation of inconsistencies and retcons, is unappealing.

That said, I find the addition of jumps welcome for the convenience of them. The gameplay and story in current dungeons, raids, and areas is just better designed than when the team was crunched in the 2.0 transition (and the devs "affectionately" refer to HW at Hellsward from how much they stuffed in there, and why SB is planned to have a longer patch cycle. Better planning.). A healthy, happy community means more updates for everyone.

It's as Dzian said. I just did this for an alt of mine to skip only ARR. Worked perfectly.

You have to manually do the hunt / grand company stuff still too, but that is pretty easy!
