please. Hien's coat look horrendous during cutscenes. its literally pixelated.
im not asking for 1.0 flower pot level, just do it for the players' equipment and important NPCs, but optional hi res texture dlc for pc players would go a long way.

I'll second this.
At 4K, the backgrounds are fine, but the foregrounds.... well every piece of gear looks pixelated when zoomed in. ALL of it.

Yes please, would be nice to have HD texture pack.
I wish hair styles would get a nice rework as well. So many look shabby af... It hurts my eyes, dont want to use them even. I agree on the texture pack as additional option for pc players.
no thanks and bad idea! Imagine the high res texture: your PC or PS4 system has way more to handle than before for graphics and even more in raids with 24 people! The System can get behind resulting in Frame rate drops, game freeze, system overheat + damage, or even client crashes. and.. uhh... I dont want our nice game gets minutes of long loadscreens like FF15 has...
Notice the OP said optional dlc. Meaning you can uninstall said dlc without consequence. If the patch hurts your PC then simply uninstall it and problem solved. I for one would love to see better textures on this game. When I try to take up close screen shots the horribly pixelated textures makes me feel as if I'm playing on low settings.
I can understand your concern because I can relate, as my current laptop will not run FFXIV well at all with a GeForce 555M GT 3GB RAM. I have to play the game on my Alienware now, and I just upgraded the graphics card and everything (1060 GTX 6GB). Like it was mentioned, a texture package is optional.
I vote for this every time it comes up even gear needs this for screen shots
Do realize that the size of the textures has never been an issue. Current video cards come stock with 4GB or 8GB of memory. What makes the GPU work harder is the number of polygons in the actual models. Like I'm not sure if you've notice, but if you actually look at that first image I posted, you can see the actual lines in the polygons around the face and the edges of the clothing as well.
Like that doesn't quite bother me as much because the detail that matters is the eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows for making faces.
Now they probably should update the hair, because as much as these hair styles are nice, they are suffering from DX9 fatique in shading. Like, this is what V2.0 looked like:

And this is what V1.0 looked like:

I haven't gotten much dlc from the mog station. But if this was done correctly and a one time op in I would gladly pay for this one.
Also my 1070 feels like it's going to waste on this.
As for raids. Don't let us use it for content like that till echo out for it.
Anyway, in the subject of not wanting to wait for other people to load, it could be locked behind minimum system requirements.
In the very least it's easily arguable that the older character textures could use reworking.
This expansion really showed just how bad the overall graphical quality is right now. I never thought I wouldn't want big zones but after seeing the new zones I rather go back to small more filled areas. And all the cutscenes with jaggy armor was very bad. Luckily the voice acting and overall story was great and I can look past the graphical aspect but enough is enough! Let us have some better graphic options! Textures 100% need a boost.
While we're on this topic, supersampling would be cool as well.
I would like to see a Hi-res cutscenes texture pack released so that at least the cutscenes would be fitting to a great level of detail for the game with such a good story.
It would be nice, but I'd even take an option to make everything look permanently wet. Everything looks better wet, clothing textures and even character skin looks more natural. They honestly should use the current wet versions of textures as the base from now on.
I have noticed this is heavily an issue in new gear when trying to take screenshots and the like. the pixels are almost painful when trying to take a close up. I also support an optional HD pack. Maybe even one that can be tweaked on how/when you use it. Like, I don't need the HD in a dungeon since I'm normally zoomed out, but outside of it would be awesome and improve cutscenes so much. I cringe at them at the moment.
Yes please. The textures are awfully low res. Implement them as an option for those who can run them. And those who play on lower end machines can still play the game as it is without sacrificing any performance.
+1 for a high res texture pack. They could also just add the options WoW has to decrease your settings anytime you enter a raid. Also while we are at it, can we also have the option to use the 1.0 UI? 2.0+ UI has always felt way too clean for a game set in such a heavily fantasy based world.
Next expansion pack they should really think about upgrading the graphic department of the game like blizzard did with cata or wotlk.
I've been asking to get 4K textures for a long time now, SE will meet a dead-end eventually and they will have to give us UHD graphics!...
The Producer might still be waiting for the imminent PS5 after the Scorpio slapped the PS4 Pro with the better specs!... :p
I would love a high resolution texture pack so much, there's so many textures that could use improvement and I would download one in a heart beat!
Would love it. A more vibrant, less muted color palette as well.
Any reply/comment from reps?
Definately yes please more high res textures please :)
I just bought a new pc in february and have a 1070, and i thought that was bad I cant imagine a 1080ti.
Agreed, one thing at a time
I really hate they talk about FPS when really you don't need more than 60 for this game. Sure I run above it but for better graphics I'd happily drop some FPS.
Yep exactly! Im not one to fuss over FPS so that issue isn't on my mind what so ever. They are trying to appeal to the masses which most only care about FPS. We should at least have the option for better graphic settings. I don't see how having it as an option would be a bad thing?
We are suffering due to the whole 1.0 flower pot issue and I think enough is enough! We as FF fans enjoy FF games partly because of the graphical quality they usually give us, so to keep avoiding it even for an MMO is not right.
Agreed. The game is pretty for an MMO, but it's starting to look dated. An optional texture pack, increased particle effects usage and better use of tesselation would go a long way, and the increased texture resolution might mean that the currently horrible parallax mapping might actually look good.
Especially when FPS isn't the deal breaker in a non-shooter. I would've thought after dropping PS3 we'd start seeing some support for updating the graphics. And I agree with you. enough is enough on that issue. I think of all times, now is the best time to introduce this as an option, stormblood is so beautiful, yet its held hostage by the pixel. :D
How bout we get good play and good content. And compromise with lower rez graphics
I have a feeling that the amount of labor and QA that will go into providing such an option will end up costing quite a bit. If they ever do offer it, it will probably cost as much as an expansion. Another option is a different package such as Stormblood and Stormblood HD. I would love to see it included in our subs but considering how much it will cost, buying it appears to be the only practical solution if we want it any time soon.
I support the request for Hi-res dlc. Yes please and thank you.
Que no los dos?
Graphics team isn't necessarily busy when other parts of the development team is during different phases of content creation. It's not like it's only Yoshida working on this entire game, I'm sure they can handle multiple projects at once, especially if a team is underutilized/has some low workload time.
Square Enix is just making as much money as they can from FFXIV without giving it a much bigger budget to work with, otherwise Yoshi-P wouldn't be begging for more people, it would seem like he is the one working the most in the game and that the FFXIV Dev Team is really small considering how long it takes them to bake new content!...
Said otherwise SE might consider it's not worth investing more money in FFXIV and thus we'll never have 4K textures, instead SE creates new games that will make them more cash and just leaves FFXIV to do whatever it can for as long as they need it and that's what scares me because it's exactly when things get cheaper, I don't want to be playing a shabby looking game for five more years just to realize it looks as bad as FFXI looks now, comparatively talking!...
My last hope is that SE has already begun works on the next main numbered Final Fantasy Online and that it will be only then that we get a true 4K experience!...
Producer Yoshida can prove me wrong but I won't be holding my breath!... :p
