From the point of view of non-summoners, Demi bahamut is too big and can get in the way of seeing aoes or doing mechanics, specially in fights like Susano EX.

Maybe they could put demi-bahamut under the effects that turn off when you check "show-limited" like flare. Having two summoners with demi-bahamut out in a narrow corridor is a bit distracting.
I'd be okay with it being transparent. Completely gone would be lame though. As would Mini Bahamut.
I'm literally having this problem now in Susano EX. I've just turned off all party effects because bahamut is SO big. It's really frustrating and frankly I think they should either shrink him or have him moved away from the party. When he is summoned, I CANNOT SEE what is going on or where is safe to stand without doing awkward camera moving when there is so much going on at the same time. Bahamut + aoe marker + stupid ninja frog is horrible. I know summoners wanted a bigger summon, but he stays around too long for that size to be acceptable.
Edit: turned off all effects and bahamut is STILL VISIBLE.
Yes, someone pointed out that the reason you can't hide him is because he's a pet/summon, not a battle effect.
So basically we're stuck with him unless SE specifically does something about it (please, do something).
I laugh at this because of the irony that endlessly summoners begged and cried for larger summons only for it to be realized how impractical and disruptive a summon of that size to be used in actual combat.
Summoners were kept crying for years for larger more majestic summons. They weren't happy with their chicken nuggets and rat summons. They wanted something big and majestic. Something that would remind all the rest that a summoner is a powerful job who can invoke godly powers and something that will feel more "FF". Devs finally listened and gave them a godly majestic Bahamut summon so that everyone could witness him in all his glory.
Now summoners asking for it to become transparent or invisible. This was a heavily requested feature. The tears of summoners who were asking for this all these years are enough to fill the Ruby Sea.
If you can't handle Bahamut you aren't worthy of the Summoner title. Pokemon Go is that way ------->
I warned y'all.. We all warned y'all!! Big summons aren't a good idea!! Here it begins!
And this is why we can't have cool things. Everyone complains. It was the same with DRK's Darkside Aura. In the end they nerfed it down and I can barely see it. Thing which I'm not a fun of. There is a possibility that devs for one reason or the other may not be able to do what OP says. What then? What if they visually nerf it even for the summoners? Will summoners like it?
Since Bahamut does not bring raid utilities, it would be great to toggle him off (for the non SMN players at least) as he is indeed big and we did have the same issue in Susano where he really was on the way. Don't blame the lalafell.
Aww... leave poor Mega Charizard X alone! :( :( :(
On topic: Most people could see this whole thing happening way back when larger summons were first suggested.
ARR: "Please change the summons! This isn't what we wanted for summoner." HW: "Why haven't you yet?" Devs: "We think it might be too distracting in an MMO." SB: Devs: "Okay you guys can relax now. You have a Bahamet Egi." Fans: "Wah it's too big, and it's distracting me." Yoshi P warned you. To be honest, it annoyed me at first, but now I don't mind. Give it time, and it's not that hard to get used to. I actually feel sad when I don't see a bahamet egi, when I get stuck in lower roulettes.
They should allow you to hide it. Hate that giant thing on my screen.
I love my Bahamut but I have to admit having 6 SMNs use him at the exact same time would be an issue in the next 24-man.
Lol people ruining it for summoners already.
I don't know if they will do this, look at how long it took to get your egi to look like carb. So much for egi glam. One can hope I guess
I think the DRK thing was messing with peoples eyes, which I guess can be a fairly big issue for those with epilepsy. It also didn't really look nice compared to what was shown in the HW Job Ability showcase video (people wanted dark flames, we instead got a wavey red aura thing). To give the DRK the benefit of the doubt, we can still see AoE's. Depending on where the SMN is standing and if they have Bahamut out... he's just a massive 20 second distraction who can get in the way and it does not help that his wings are pretty massive, too.
And now we see why they were so apprehensive about adding larger egis.
After asking a Summoner friend, it turns out they don't. It just does its attack whenever you cast a spell and does Akh Morn whenever it feels like after you hit the button for it. They can't even manually position it, so they have to be super far away for it to not obscure anyone's view.
I agree with the OP and while we're on the subject, I wish they'd make it so SMN/SCH pets and chocobos have an option to be "not-targetable" in the character settings menu. While questing with my SMN friend, our chocobos and their pet constantly got in the way when I went to click on npc quest givers. It was very annoying!
Weird, no one ever complained about big summons in XI (a PS2 game of all things). Not even when we used to have an entire party of SMNs with their avatars out full time dealing damage in melee range together with other melee jobs.
Leave SMN alone already.
And there goes Summoner!
#RIPSMN2017.
Actually, this isn't true. The size of summons was actually used as a GRIEFING TACTIC on occasion in XI. I remember camping Aquarius in the Boyahda Tree, with dozens of SMN standing around with Titan summoned to make it more difficult to see when the notorious monster popped. The giant summons of FFXI were definitely an obstruction anywhere that space was tight and on a few occasions even when it was not.
While I can't say that I was pleased with the compact size of the FFXIV summons, I certainly understood the need. Now that we have Demi-Bahamut blotting out the sun, it's easy to see why that decision was made!
No one in this entire thread is asking for demi-bahamut to be changed, we are asking for an option so party members don't have their field of view obstructed with bahamut, this is a client side change that wouldn't affect the summoner at all, just like how we can hide player effects.
Moot point. The viewing angles of XI (played for 9 years with SMN as my 2nd main) was different and a single summon didn't hurt much. Also, XI wasn't based around positional requirements for the jobs. Sure some jobs like THF and SAM had things they have to worry about but those were not as frequent or as facepassed as the XIV battle System.
Also, XI wasn't based around avoiding telegraphiced AoE damage. You got hit and had very low chances of not getting hit by them, AKA why healers actually had to heal in XI. XIV is literally a don't touch the lava battle system. Not avoiding AoEs usually equals death where it was not nearly that bad in XI.
XIV requires far higher visual awareness than XI ever did.
We also don't want the bahamut removed from the game. We just want the option to not see it. You will still be able to see it we just wont. Kind of like minions and player names and such.
As far as size I never asked for a larger egi. After the oversized gauges that are still too large on their smallest setting it doesn't surprise me that Demi-Bahmut is excessively large. While making him semitransparent would work I'd rather see an option to make him smaller.
We had two of us in a dungeon today and the tank said when they went off simultaneously his screen went white and he lost the boss,
I cant see it being difficult to add an option to turn the visibility of summoned pets off if people really find it necessary
