[SPOILER] "The garlean Primal solution?"

Now then late in the MSQ we learn Zenos has discovered how to give people artifical Echo.

If this is the case then what if the Garleans started to produce more artifical Echo users as a means to create Artifical Warriors of Light later in the storyline as we get closer to Garlemald?

What do you think this may entail for the Alliance, Scions, and WoL if the Garlean Empire can create a small group of Artifical Echo users as part of their army and would they see this as a their "Primal Solution" to finally have a means to fight Primals without risk of Primal influence?

I wonder if we killed that scientist or not (although I suppose we did) but even so I think the emperor was watching everything so that research may go on. That said I think that was the most interesting part of the plot and a shame it was revealed only in the final arc, I do hope that the post story content will try to pry more on the subject, because aside the fact that allows ppl to control primals it could also be a way to reverse the tempering effect of a primal imho

If people's theory about 5.0 being Garlemald/Sharlayan Expansion is true then this may be a prelude to the WoL going into Garlemald maybe as a Prisoner of War due to someone betraying the WoL while in Sharlayan so he can be studied by Garlean Scientists but of course only to breakout and stuck in Garlemald until he or she finds a way out.

That would be a good story twist but I for see problems to go about that.

I was wondering, is the thing Zenos did the same thing the Ascians did at the end of 3.0?

Honestly, I figured it was like Yaysle and Thordan "becoming" Shiva and King Thordan. Both of those primals were legends brought to life, but I always figured they were also a result of and shaped by a certain overwhelming desperation on both of their parts--similar to Zenos desperation to feel something/have a connection/rival through bloodshed (completely and utterly twisted but that was how I saw it). Ilbred certainly was only concerned will how many people he could kill when Shinryu was summoned. I suppose if it was like Lahabrea and I-can't remember-her-name that bloodthirstiness is why the two of them "resonated".

Actually Zenos never stated that the power of the echo is the power to control primals, he states that the power of the echo has a greater influence than the primal's influence meaning you can controll primals, but technically this also means that with the echo you can control other's will better than primals, it would be completely broken if garleans developed an army of echo users that could control the enemy army.

Now that I think about it... Zenos was not portraited as a stupid in any way, so it's possible that he also has thought of this? Maybe we have some mind controlled guys by our side right now? Maybe it's Krile?

Perhaps it will pave the way for Garleans becoming a playable race in the future? One can dream!

Still, I'm hoping that Zenos' research doesn't end up being used by the Emperor. Or, if it does, it's done for the sake of defending Garlemald itself/defeating Eikons.

I also hope that we see Hydaelyn's favouritism called out in regards to her blessing specific individuals from specific races but leaving others to fend for themselves. Didn't she also intervene to save Krile when the Isle of Val was wiped out but effectively let everybody else there perish without intervention?

One could argue that Hydaelyn was too weak to save everyone on the island, and even if she did, the Ascians would probably redouble their efforts to erase the island AND make sure to kill Krile the second time around just to weaken Hydaleyn even more.

On a side note, we haven't heard from Hydaelyn at all during SB.

But anyway, I expect the story to move towards the topic of artificial echo users. We may be rebuilding Ala Mhigo now, but that also means we're likely to discover a lot of technology and research the Garleans left behind. I don't think we even captured that scientist, he's probably still somewhere at large within the city.

Either way they now have the emans to create a Anti-Primal Squad. With this they no longer need to worry about Primals thus now can officially make a move to conquer Eorzea. The only reason they had held back for this long was because they had no means to fight Primals but now they do since they can now create Artificial Echo which will be immune to Primal influences.

Ya there certainly will be story elements they need to cover for this story to work such as preventing the WoL from teleporting out of Garlemald and how will they incapacitate the WoL long enough for them to transport the WoL from Sharlayan into Garlemald.

Though it would be a interesting storyline and one where the WoL, for the majority of it, will be trapped behind enemy lines alone and without allies while adventuring around Garlemald to find a way back to his companions may meet new allies and open the eyes of other Garleans to what is going on in the Garlean Empire.

After all 4.0 ending scene after the credits shows there is something going on deep inside Garlemald which will require the WoL to be in Garlemald to stop or else Elidibus and Varis plans will happen without any resistance. Well mostly Elidibus because Varis knows full well he is gambling with the Devil since if things goes as planned the "mortal" race will be united under the Garlean Banner in the "New World" created by Zodiark but if not then all "mortal races" will be wiped out by Zodiark.

Still the question remains.... Who is under that mask?

Thinking about it elidubus said that zenos was a good test subject so maybe it wasn't his idea only the resonant thing, maybe the emperor had an hand in it

Yes the research on Echo has been going on for a long time now in Garlemald.

While originally they killed Echo users because of belief that they were no different from Primals, the 1.0 Warriors of Light actions for being able to kill Primals changed this view and now the Garlean Empire see the Echo as a possible solution to their "Primal threat" thus they began experimenting on how to replicate the Echo and learning more about.

This has been going for some time since 2.0 as there have been hints Garlean Empire have been reasearching the Echo. It is only now we see the fruit of their labor with experimenting on Echo users in Garlemald.

We have no way of knowing what the next xpac is, until it is announced. I'm sure it will be easier to guess, the closer we get to 5.0, but as of now it looks like it could go one or more of many different ways. 1. A Bukyo Expansion, where we deal with Hingashis attempt at reform. The caste system is apparently a huge problem, leading to civil unrest. 2. Garlemald. Obviously that Garlemald Embassy has to be set up for later. We're also at war with them. 3. Thavnair. Out of all the other known nations, we get a Thavnair embassy, plus it's on the map. It's very possible. 4. More of the east opens up, allowing us to travel to Naxcia, The Burn, and more unreleased places. 5. Sharlayan opens up for some reason. 6. The Roe origin land of Aerslant. 7. Meracydia.

Regula is the mask just assume the obvious since we know of only one person close to Varis. Anyways on the scientist he's the second boss in Ala Mhigo.

I recall them saying Garlemald's story wouldn't be done until 6.0 at the earliest, so I could see 5.0 mostly being a continuation of the war against them, pressing onwards into the regions within outer Othard and southern Ilsabard, capitalizing on the civil unrest stirred up by Doma and Ala Mhigo's liberation.

Judging by the good emperor's reaction it could very well be a legatus he knew well. I can think of one that we never actually saw die.

That be interesting and hoping the story starts painting the Alliance a bit negatively or as invaders because Ala Mhigo was justified and had every reason to bring an army there.

Ya for 4.0 we are shown the worst case of Garlean Control areas but as certain NPCs said in 4.0, through side quests and main story, Garlean Control areas vary on who is the one in control of the area. For some areas they get Good Garleans as their rulers which in return these areas are treated better and given reason to find their life better under Garlean rule compared to Doma and Ala Mhigo which they only got beatings and empty promises.
