The expansion is still fresh. A lot of people are still leveling up to 70 at the moment.
Healer is kinda boring atm. People kept asking for more interesting gameplay since every damage income is scripted to a certain degree. With no new healer class and this "revamp", which made healers lose abilities and have less to do than before, made it worse. People lost interest I guess, the only hope they had was the "gameplay rework" on tanks and healers while dpsers would be trying their new shiny toys.
They killed my main job SCH
I still heal, but I don't pug real content.
A lot of SCH and WHM both pissed off at the moment so makes sense there is shortage as many are trying other jobs.
While I'm sad there was no new healer added, I am sticking to the role. I've enjoyed healing the most for the better part of two decades and although I switched from Scholar to Astrologian due to the changes made to the former, I'm enjoying the new toys like Minor Arcana and Earthly Star. I wouldn't main any other job role personally.
We are still around, but I suspect many are annoyed by the changes to at least two of the healing jobs and/or enticed by new and exciting jobs, as well as everything the existing jobs get. I think it'll settle down eventually and some people may come back to healing. :)
The expansion launch is 2 days in, let people level at their own pace and enjoy the story instead of going all chicken little on the current state of classes.
<-- still leveling, dude
Because they murdered WHM and SCH. So there's 2/3 of healers.
Tanks and healers were both dumbed down and nerfed to hell, whereas DPS are probably having the best time of their lives in terms of engaging gameplay right now. Its simple as that. Not just adding 2 classes, but gutting 2 healers and one tank class was a surefire way to push population into the DPS.
You asked them to DPS that much that they turned into real DPS. Great job everyone, the rest of the healers dps more than heal now.
In addition to everything everyone else has said, there are also some of us (no clue how many, can only speak for myself and the bf) that have stopped tanking and healing for randoms. We're now running dungeons with friends/fc instead. So, that's even more gone from the pool of these roles.
Selling heals!......
SE SAYS: How to make Healers and Tanks fun and engaging?
Dumb them down, take 1 of 3 of them and buff them to high heavens while the other 2 heals/tanks sit and suffer with slaughtered skills and nerfs.
As an AST main and pre 3.0 SCH Main, I feel bad for my healer siblings.
They favour PLD/AST this meta.
My guess is the changes they did to the healers and tanks.
#22 for DREX as a tank. 6 minute wait.
What is going on?
This pretty much, I've been maining sch since it came out but now it just doesn't seem worth it. Also everyone beats up on the healer when a dps stands in the bad or a tank has no idea how to use their cool downs and they die. Honestly it's a thankless role and the only reason to play it is if your having fun with how your class plays, and they are pretty boring to play now so why would anyone willing subject themselves to morons in pugs lol. I may level it up 70 to heal with my friends but i've given up on pug healing and it seems i'm not the only one lol.
This is pretty apparent for the should healers dps debate, no matter what side you take you will never win, everything is your fault from either not healing to the parties liking (even though no one is dying) or not doing enough damage (even though the tank is going down like a led balloon).
Concidering the whole toxic "bad heals" comments people are making, it's no wonder. Same goes for tanks. I am not saying it happens a lot. But it's enough to leave a bad taste in your mouth. So no wonder no one wants to do it more than required through df. With friends or fc is different all together.
Started a full-time job right when the expansion hit, gotta work 8-5 for 5 days a week. Haven't been able to level up much, I just hit 65 a little while ago.
All of the healers got fed up with being told they don't DPS enough, or were bad for healing, so they moved on to actual DPS classes.
I like all these healers saying "it's boring now" and they aren't even level 70. Well done.
Got cockblocked for the majority of early access weekend by Raubahn, Pippin, and 90ks and then had to go back to work and family obligations. Same is true for most of my team and my FC.
All of the SCHs got fed up because their option to play effectively was taken away and they were shackled.
I really want to see someone draw a picture of the current SCH situation. Smn on the left side of a frame. Sch on the right. Seperated by a black divider. Chains on Smns feet to keep him from flying too far off the ground. Smn using deathflare with a malefic grin and bahamut using ahkmorn. The entire smn side emphasizes a bright and alive but evil purple. The chains that are hooked to smns feet travel through the divider and wrap around schs neck. His hands clawing at them as a desperate eos, chained a foot off the ground, tries to fly to the SCH to save him reaching out but desperately trapped herself. The SCH side focuses on a dying green color spectrum, eos glowing to contrast the chains.
You dps got what you deserve.
After telling Healers you MUST dps , not when you want or feel comfortable , they a ll took that to heart and dps as dd.
Enjoy your queue times.
God forbid someone expects you to contribute equally and not stand around doing nothing while you look at your second monitor. How horrible for you.
Anywho. While leveling is undoubtedly a factor since plenty of people aren't going to rush through the content, the devs severely neutered one of the healers. I suspect many Scholars may have switched over to Summoner or another DPS. I also suspect Red Mage has enticed more than a few players over because it basically does everything. Unfortunately, I don't see this trend dying down since tank and healer balance is abysmal at the moment while Samurai and Red Mage are extremely popular.
Earlier today, expert roulette was 14 min queue as a tank
I leveled a red mage, and I heal when there is nothing to hit or if the team is really in need(one tank/healer died), I also use my ress when someone dies in order to save the healers mana, even if at times this leaves me with no mana for myself. And guess what? Doing something that you did not queue in to do in order to help the team won't make your nails fall off your fingers or you eyes boil into your eyesockets, it's actually pretty fun believe it or not.
I really need to try scholar soon and see what all the doomsaying is about. People complained about WHM, but here I am rolling in MP, laughing maniacally as I DPS to my heart's content while using cure and cure II and breathing in all the assize cooldown procs and lilies.
Is doomsaying just in fashion like puns are this year?
Whms have been living in ASTs shadow since 3.4. They were anticipating a buff. When they felt that it wasn't at "astronomical" as they expected, they cried and got buffed before release and continued to cry because of the stigma that was created. Weak WHM. Poor WHM having to buy back skills they already had!
SCH expected to be nerfed in an area and rebuilt somewhere else. They did not expect to have so many skills removed with no solution to bring back what they had.
It's not doomsaying if they destroyed your class. WHM just didn't like their presents. SCH was robbed.
WHM is in great shape. Plenary indulgence, as awful as it is, is still more practical than dissipation, which never got changed to create some sort of synergy despite adding in a fairy gauge.
Ya alot of people now are focusing on leveling their other Jobs to 70 to prepare for the raid content.
It is training month now for the expansion and majority of players are focusing on trying to get 3 or more Jobs to level 70 before they start hitting the endgame stuff.
I disagree, I main heals and I personally enjoy them. I feel better about playing SCH after playing it a bit too. Just took me a while to get used to how I need to manage my mana. I am still WHM main and will be forever.
I don't understand why healer mains switched. If you like something you will learn to play it regardless, when everyone was getting ASTs cause they were so strong I still main-ed WHM because it is what I liked.
As a healer it's great for me. I'm the new tank. I get to be a jerk and-- oh wait I already do that. I get great q times!
You are one. You are undoubtedly allowed to enjoy the current playstyle, but many healers are not. As others have mentioned in this thread, Scholars have been nerfed in all their key areas - DPS, Fairy, and mitigation.
Will some people adapt and play it regardless? For sure.
Will some people switch to something else? Certainly.
This does not change the fact that SCH at 70 "feels" weaker, more boring, and less engaging than at 60. Comments and suggestions about stupid skills like Dissipation were completely ignored.
You know, most people choose and like a class because they like their playstyle. SCH was about DPS and mitigation. They removed that. Why would someone stick with SCH? We can change jobs - and many will. But is that actually ok? Is it ok to make a job so boring and insipid that even long-time loyal players are considering to switch?
Do they still like it though? Many people have given up Dark Knight for Paladin because they no longer like how it plays. It isn't about adjusting, but simply disliking the playstyle. In the case of Scholar, it used to be the go to healer for players who enjoyed a more hybrid approach to healing. Having since lost that identity to some degree, those very same people are now going to look for another job to fulfill their preferred playstyle. Red Mage seems extremely popular in that regard.
By simplifying the jobs, we're going to see more and more people switch to DPS, I feel.
