I can not seem to hold aggro as War

I have kept my War for high level dungeons since getting it to 60 so I might just not remember the way it was.

Since the SB launch, I always go do my daily roulettes with my FC buddies and I had lots of trouble keeping the aggro on mobs in low level dungeons (i.e. without stance)

I would overpower twice, switch to 1-2 combo for slash debuff then keep going. But I can see the DPS's aggro meter rising with each GCD and spamming my aggro combo barely keeps up.

I should mention this happens mostly with RDM.

Did War get a nerf in aggro generation or did I just forget to tank without tank stance?

I think RDM is simply a bit OP right now. I notice they rip hate easily as well, even faster than SAM do. They also tend to go single target so if you only AoE they pick one off.

The few levels before tank stance are gonna be a nightmare for everyone. With damage going back to scaling with Str, I wouldn't be surprised if it became harder to keep hate before Defiance. My advice is to use Overpower twice, do one combo, Overpower again, do one combo, Overpower again, so on, so forth. It might be a strain on your TP, but really tanks have very little tools to hold aggro in those low levels.

My advice : go back to the roots. Mark the targets with a kill order and focus on one at a time.

it's simply impossible to hold enmity against an red mage in low level content. i was spamming unleashed and still lost enmity...

Mix in a little bit of Flash to save on TP. Oh wait...

Mind you I'm brand new to tanking in general and new to warrior so I still have my green leaf on me in a sense, never did much with them since 1.0.

Taking up tanking I haven't had much trouble in higher levels (so far I've only gotten 51+) I've had SAM and RDM in my first party in SB. I lost hate when I was trying to prioritize certain things over my general hate thinking I was safe.

This also has been a staple because when I do loose hate it's because I'm focusing on the entire group and when I go for a single hate combo I loose it if I'm not quick enough or on sync with the other damage dealers. Numbering them lets me and the single target DPS know what we're both after. When I do that, I have no issues. Later on it might not be an issue but right now it's good practice.

Maybe I need to do a few lower levels to see but anything HW - SB (just unlocked the lv. 65 dungeon so haven't done that one) I haven't had any hate issues that were the systems fault, but purely my own. Me using Steel Cyclone a bit more / Ultimatum if I feel uneasy + Overpower gets me back on track if I loose focus. Then again this isn't for everyone, just what I've done to keep my PT alive.

You're not using enough Overpower. Unless you're only fighting one or two targets at a time, you should burn through most of your TP on Overpower before you start doing single target damage. Don't waste time putting up Eye for Overpower, the 3 gcds used for single target means that it won't even break even after 13 gcds. Berserk should be up for almost every single group, and Unchained for every 2nd trash pack and every boss.

As a total noob tank myself, I noticed that at least for the first three instances you are better off using Overpower A LOT since you won't have enough time to throw in your first "standard-rotation" before trigger happy Red Mages have aggroed the whole group. 2-3 OPs and you might have time to do something;)

RDM er very OP atm. SAM. is lackluster imo especialy in defence....and yes WAR. needs better tools to keep aggro.

I usually go with the 3 OP and if my dps is hitting different targets i do the swing , skull combo on one target and hit the other target with BB. seems to work for me so far never had a problem holding aggro yet.

As a RDM you want to scatter then instant Ver Aero/Thunder if you are attacking 3 mobs. SB does sets of three frequently. The faster you get to 30/45/60/75 the faster you can manafiction your way to 2/3/4/5 200 potency aoe Cleaves in a row.

To be fair, WAR has ALWAYS been garbage at holding aggro IMO.

WAR's single advantage has always been his simplicity.
Mash 1-3 abilities, pop bloodbath, repeat.

I'm not having any trouble with DRK or PLD holding aggro, even with RDMs.

Which doesn't really apply to the topic at hand, since it's about losing aggro in low level, pre-tank stance dungeons. They don't get Moulinet until lvl 52.

You know how I know you don't know what you're talking abuot?

In the low lvl dungeons I will usually OPX3 and just go straight into BB combos because the dps are never hitting the same mob, so I'll watch the threat gauges and decide which mob gets the next BB combo. If your DPS aren't stellar or aren't on point you can go ahead and maim for the slashing debuff, but because it only affects one mob, I think this is lower priority than ensuring I have hate on all the mobs. I do have TP problems sometimes at the low lvls but once steel cyclone is unlocked, it gets better for trash pulls.

Also make sure you're making good use of berserk, you get it at lvl 6 now, so no reason it shouldn't be up at the start of most pulls.

edit: also, your melee dps CAN cross class goad now, the trick is getting them to do it. lol

I think op was referring to not having any of the abilities that require beast gauge.

Also note that unchained has no effect on inner beast and steel cyclone because they ignore defiance's damage penalty already. I will say though, unchained with berserk and OP spam is amazing for threat generation.

I try to go into trash pulls with 100 BG and will start off with two over powers, put up my eye buff, berserk, and steel cyclone X3. Pretty much can go afk at this point without losing enmity on trash.

Yeah sorry was at work so I typed it fast but you would still have to go through some combos to build up the gauge. So like unchained butcher's block.
