Suggestion: Sprint to be unlimited toggle in cities

Please allow Sprint to be an unlimited use toggle in major cities. With the Sprint cooldown change it takes forever to get around when unable to use a mount. I personally don't like to use the Aetheryte Shards all the time and the base movement speed is super slow for navigating cities.

Hear hear! I was totally annoyed when I found out Sprint reload takes longer. Make sprinting unlimited, make it longer or shorten reload time back to 30 seconds

Absolutely yes.

If you don't want to bring mounts in the cities, at least give us this option.

It'd be nice for it to be a toggle in cities and 30 second cooldown outside of combat. The way it is now aggravates the hell out of me.

The change to sprint made the pre-mount levels for new players/characters extra molasses, so I'd recommend a quicker cooldown for them until they get their mount license

Or just revert the cooldown because you either used it all the time in combat because you were a caster, or you never used it in combat because you need TP. This was a quality of life change that they ruined because they thought it was a balance change.

It's like they hate new players, what with the errand boy quest line you start out on that everyone complains about and the sprint cooldown... May as well add a permanent Heavy debuff on all new characters until level 20. Then they will really be forced to enjoy the sight seeing.

Let me get this straight. You don't like using aetherytes, but want to be able to run continuously. Since you don't like aetherytes, which should be the quickest way to get around, it does not seem like speed is your primary concern. You don't seem to enjoy seeing the sights, so that can't be your primary concern, either. Seems like you're not telling us the whole story. So if it's not about speed and not about taking in the sights, why do you want to be able to run nonstop in cities? Why not just ask SE to make you an instance that's nothing but a black room where anything and everything can be done by doing the '/me' emote?

Does this generation have no patience anymore?

Could be an immersion thing. Like when I play Skyrim or Breath of the Wild, I never use fast travel. Doesn't mean I don't love using mounts so i can go faster.

i would still like it if we were also able to sprint long distances outside cities. i know we have mounts, but there are different scenarios where it would just feel better to use your own two feet. specifically the Ninja, whom has a unique sprint animation, to which now i rarely see myself doing outside of cities now that sprint was nerfed.

my suggestion is to just give us two types of sprint abilities. one used inside of combat, and the other used outside of combat.

Yes! This is how sprint works in WildStar basically (out of combat you can toggle it to be on permanently if you want; in combat you have to press shift to sprint). Makes a lot of sense.

Making it a "this generation" thing is one good way to get yourself ignored or mocked when it's a QoL suggestion.

Actually, I find myself just jogging about as the whole pausing to use aetheryte teleports as it is an immersion thing, amd just feels more intuitive to actively travel. Plus, old habits die hard for us former PS3 players, where it often WAS just as fast to simply sprint about town than deal with the extra load screens even if you were porting withing the same zone.

It gets annoying using aethernets to travel when you still have to run up to them in the first place, click through menus, and loading (brief tho it may be, still annoying). If I could toggle sprint I would rather run to the destination and look around to enjoy the views. I enjoy the pace that sprint provides and the animation is less boring than the slow jog. Call me picky if you want... But regardless walking to destinations in this manner is too slow and I'd rather just use aethernet shards which results in skipping scenery and breaking immersion anyway. I rather enjoy running around the cities and zones with my UI toggled off via scroll lock but I have to turn it back on to use the aethernets because walking just takes 2 to 3 times longer.

Hell I'd even be happy with having to unlock a sprint toggle, whether it be city only or out-of-combat.

And you just got through bashing me for not wanting to use the aetherytes and then contradicted your whole argument.
Also to clarify, it's not the aetherytes I don't like using, it's the aethernets in cities.

Running around in any of the cities now has become such a huge pain :( And please shorten the sprint timer in combat instances as well - tanks sprinting off while mass pulling when I happen to have sprint on cooldown has become a major pain in the butt... I only have so many aetherflow stacks I can burn on them, so being able to run to them and heal them in time would be awesome.

It's fiiine.

Make an infinite sprint mount that's usable in towns.

But if you care about immersion, why are you constantly sprinting? That's not realistic at all. You should actually be mostly walking in that case!

Also, sprint is not a huge speed increase. Based on some quick research, it seems to be about 1/8 faster than walking. So in the old system when you could be sprinting 2/3 of the time, you end up going about 4% faster overall compared to the new system where you're sprinting 1/3 of the time. That's not nothing, but it's not *that* much. The difference is mostly psychological.

The fact is, if you sprinted all the time, that speed would eventually feel plodding, especially now that we have turbo mounts. Here's a simpler idea: why not increase all speeds 4% in towns? End result is actually the same (though people would still perceive it as worse, but whatever), and they don't need to turn Sprint into some Frankenstein's monster of a skill.

I feel mmo players would be great fast food employees cause they always all about speed speed speed. As for the Sprint ability I could care less if they removed it completely as I hardly use it.

Just switch to bard or machinist and use the one role skill.

5 sec cool down and 30 sec duration, don't work in combat

4% increase lmao I seriously doubt that. As far as immersion goes, this is a fantasy world. If I want to sprint forever in a town instead of using an aethernet every 15 seconds I don't see the problem here. It's not like this a game breaking suggestion and it's not like they are sprinting at mach speed.

Actually you're right, I messed up my measurements pretty badly calculating this. In the interests of transparency, here's some better numbers. Based on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r45fccScTw4, it takes 10 seconds to get to point C while Sprinting, and 13 seconds while running normally. That means Sprinting is about 23% faster, though since I'm using pretty imprecise times, I expect the actual difference is 25%.

Based on that, we can figure out the difference over a minute. If we assuming running speed is 1 unit per second, then the old system (Sprinting for 40 seconds out of every 60) goes 1*20+1.25*40 or 70 units in 60 seconds. Under the new system, they go 1*40+1.25*20 or 65 units in 60 seconds. Thus, Sprinting is 70/65 times as fast, which equates to about 7.7% faster. That's double what I initially said (and I apologize for the error). I would still argue it's not game-breaking, though.

I'm calling shenanigans on this. First off, where were you going that took an hour? FFXI travel is ridiculously slow, but even a chocobo trip from Bastok to Windurst took just over half an hour. And that's the long way past Jeuno, it's more direct if you walk (ferry schedule notwithstanding). But more to the point, people did complain, constantly. And I made all of my money in that game selling teleports, because people were willing to part with decent chunks of change to avoid that travel. There's a reason FFXI has like six different fast travel systems these days.

I didn't want to start an argument over this. All I wanted to do was give a suggestion. It would be nice to have that option and besides the visuals and sfx of sprint activating and deactivating kind of break immersion as well.

No, it's a perfectly sensible suggestion. Don't let anyone here tell you otherwise.

Latest update actually prioritized nerfing the Sprint skill, whilst leaving macro lines at a maximum of 15 per macro.
That tells you all you need to know about how much SE knows or cares about actually doing what people want.

Nothing impeding the functionality of anything except your playstyle preference when it comes to sprinting, so more of a personal problem.

Except that running is infinite in many games and nobody ever complained about it until this one. It's not like I'm asking for unlimited sprint in battle... I still use aethernet shards when I'm in a hurry. But 20 second sprint followed by 40 seconds of walking? It used to be ~10 seconds of walking. And you seem to forget that the sprint cooldown nerf hurts mountless new players the most. There are so many errand boy quests that have you running back and forth. I don't see the problem with having unlimited sprint in cities or why so many of you are acting like it's a horrible thing. If you don't want it then just don't use it.

I wasnt saying that FFXI travel was perfect and im aware of that FFXI has teleport now these days,too ;)

I just have the feeling people are shouting for "faster faster". next time around we end up being able to teleport from quest npc to quest npc without caring and enjoying the world itself and to calm down a little bit. I hope you get what i mean by saying that. Even i realize for myself that i want to rush through the content from time to time.. perma sprinting through the city to be able to keep up with the progressing speed of the other players in this game "being the first one".
Isnt that how we all feel like?

But what we miss here is actually to calm down and experience the great world and cities which the devs developed for us. Its like a consum fast and then "throw away" mentality these days. so i dont think pushing it to a "faster faster, instant instant" is a good way to go for.

An other more elegant "solution" by the way (in my opinion) for your problem maybe would be instead of making sprint spamable is to implement "bard npc's at the aetherytes that grant you a travel song to speed up your walking movement within the city" ("song of the traveler" or whatsoever). permanent sprint sounds a little "very" squishy
