Best Served with Cold Steel MSQ quest cannot be completed and is stopping the MSQ quest line in Stormblood. This needs to be fixed!
I've been stuck on this since a Half Hour after servers came up, so roughly 5.5hrs....
There's just not enough instances available due to what seems to be a cap on the number of players that can do it at once.
Square stated "While we have plenty of instances available, to prevent a heavy load on the servers, we are currently limiting the number of players that can enter at a time."
So clearly there is enough and this isn't a real issue.
They could always implement an actual queue for this quest and let players go about other business until this instance is ready for them too...
Welcome to Stormblood early access! Come beta test the servers...
Been trying for 5 hours to do this quest.. Nothing...
this is getting ridiculous
Early access has always had some type of issues. ARR was unplayable at early access and I'm not sure if heavensward had any. it doesn't bother me cause I'm just going to level Samurai and Red mage in the meantime before the initial release.
Just give people the ability to complete this quest without doing the instance, there are players that have been stuck on their main quest for 9+ hours because of this. After several hundred times clicking on the npc trying to get in, something to bypass this problem is only fair.
I would like to have the name of this quest changed to "System error has occurred during event movement."
FFXIV is Main Scenario Quest driven. If you are blocked at the beginning the flow of the game is not there and it turns into either grind mindless XP or just log off. I prefer to just log off.
If you are unable to enter instanced battle content, we ask you to please wait and try again at a later time. We understand that this unfairly places the burden on our players, but we require more time until the issue can be resolved. We continue to work on measures to address this issue and will follow up once we have an update.
Doesn't work been trying that for 10 hours.
Too bad it doesn't end there. Once you finally get past that one.. Guess what 5 quests later your back at a MSQ wall. Been sitting at it for over an hour now trying to get on. This is just awful.
You know, a queueing system would be the best fix for this. Even if I just have to wait a few minutes after the cutscene to be able to get in, that'd be better than just clicking over and over hoping to get lucky.
It is totally unreasonable to expect players to accept that after paying an extortionate amount for the early access to simply wait patiently (I have members in my FC who have been trying for 13 yes 13 f'ing hours) to progress past main story. This is only going to get worse over the next 3 days as more players join. I suggest EA players are compensated for the sheer disaster launch has been and would like to see an apology from Yoshi P on ruining 90% of its most loyal fans experience. Heavensward had some minor issues but waiting days to progress was NOT one of them. Ridiculous planning and an unbelievable error in judgement from a team who we have come to expect better of
I agree completely. What drives me mad is seeing the white knights rush to SE defense saying SE doesnt owe us anything. THIS WAS NOT ADVERTISED AS A BETA TEST OR STRESS TEST. Preorders used early access as one of the key selling points in getting people to buy the game before launch. The fully functional game 4 days before official release. We pay monthly for the game, we bought the xpac early under the promise that wed have access. We cant get past the first 11 quests of the game. Square is 100% responsible for this atrocious mess. They designed the quests to gate you out of the other content in the xpac. They that put an artificial cap on the instance servers. They had all the presale numbers before early access. They planned poorly and executed even worse. And dont get me started on how bad their communication with their own playerbase is.... Going 8-9 hours between updates? Really? This is the THIRD time this has happened..but never this badly.
I have not even tried it as heard from others.
The very first new blm quest however has crashed on me. :(
14 hours now of trying to get into this, with no end in sight. Watching the same cs over and over, since skipping the cs gets me kicked off the server. And the frustrating part? A player was bemoaning the fact that she had got into the instance 3 times - lost - and couldn't get in a 4th time. You can imagine player reaction to that, especially those of us who have been trying for so long. I agree with the fact that if you need this instance to progress in MS, or any other, then there should be a queuing system in place just like there is when logging onto the server. At least, everyone would get an equal chance of completing the content.
Update: 18 hours now and counting. It's early morning here, but it will only get worse as people log on.
24 hours with no success. The past 5 spent non-stop trying to progress. I cannot even get into the instance to try. This is absolutely unacceptable, the throttling needs to be increased. This bottleneck needs to be resolved.
Also going on just over 24 hours (i took a 4 hour nap though) of almost non-stop clicking with no success! Have had FC mates come and get in on first try and zip by us! >:( Losing faith very quickly! Please, there must be something else that can be done? My server (Cactuar) even tried using a line-up, it was just over 180 people long (with about 20-30 line-cutters) and people were calling out success at a rate of roughly 12 people per 10 minutes! by the time I made it to front of the line a huge amout of people gave up and charged in and started cutting.... ;_;
I'm guessing they didn't anticipate this because they were too worried with servers and zones crashing, and they did a very good job with that. I haven't had a single disconnect so far, and queues to login have been minimal at Behemoth. They did such a good job, however, that this issue came up. Anyone with experience in this kind of business knows that under stress if you fix something then another unrelated thing may break down.
You have a massive lava flow from a volcano eruption. Before, any kind of wall built to withstand it simply melted from time to time (zone and server crashes). They managed to make a wall that is resistant to the heat and it is flowing elsewhere but not fast enough and with no order at all (players fighting for a spot on the instance server). Kind of an analogy to this situation.
Hopefully they learned this and are working on some kind of queue asap.
SE got our money, they don't give a shit if we've hit a wall.
Dunno if you pre-ordered through Amazon but they haven't shipped to me yet so I suppose it's still possible to cancel. Not that I have yet, I'm trying to be patient. But if, you know, 95% of the expansion's content is still not accessible soon...then I think it would be pretty reasonable to just request a refund and abandon Early Access.
Can't you put in an NPC or something to let us auto complete this part of the quest and move on?? 24 hours is too long to have to sit in one spot clicking.. (And yes I know I could fate grind)
Still broken! I was hoping that after I woke up it would be fixed. It either doesn't work or I get DC. I understand this is a xpac launch, been through many with other mmo's and I dont remember HW having these issues... maybe SE needs to beta test and stress test more like other games do.
I'd like to tell you it gets better, but not half an hour later you're gonna hit "In Crimson It Began" and it's gonna be the same bottleneck all over again. After 14 hours of Cold Steel, I finally got through to hit another place to be stuck and unable to progress.
I'm so glad SE's official response is "go do something that isn't new content and try later, sorry bro." I mean, it both feels like they're really on my side and they're working hard to make sure I have a positive experience with their game.
...
So far it's not *quite* as bad as Warlords of Draenor was. For that, the servers were down for almost 5 days after launch. It launched on Tuesday at midnight and the game was not operational at all until sometime the following Sunday. It wasn't just affecting new content. At least here, the new content is offline, but the rest of the game is functional. You can just pretend it's a 4.0 pre-patch and the expansion hasn't launched yet. This is still the #2 worst launch ever though.
Are they seriously not going to be doing anything about this? It's been over 24 hours since this has been an issue.
It's early access, and they should have prepared for a large release (other AAA companies do), especially considering their advertisements.
Bottle-necking people from completing a quest and throttling them so that the servers don't get overloaded is not a viable solution. Because the amount of people attempting to complete the quest is not going to decrease, it is going to INCREASE.
SE seriously didn't think about all the people who took time off of work for this. And for what? To "do something else"?
I started trying to get past this yesterday at around 6am EST. I took breaks but all in all spent about 8 solid hours trying to accept a quest that won't let me progress.
3 additional hours this morning
I'm now rounding my first hour this afternoon.
I tried to be patient. I've cleared up to this bottleneck on two characters. Leveled several gathering and crafting classes up to the point of needing materials beyond what I can gather in Gyr Abania...
I've watched several friends level up RDM and SAM to this same chokepoint.
What you've done so far is insufficient.
Thanks for keeping the thread updated with continued feedback. It was tedious logging in and out just to see this in game cluster keep getting bigger and more vocal! ;)

We need a real solution and a timetable. It's unfair to have every player forced to wait until they win the lottery. I'm clearly not that lucky. <1% of people I have contact with through linkshells and friend networks have gotten through.
This is absurd and insulting. You choke off the content that your customers paid to access, and then go silent on the matter beyond "Just wait and try again later?" That's not a fix, it's throwing your hands up in the air and saying "You guys figure it out."
At least have the decency to update your playerbase with something more substantial than just an apology.
Square has your money and therefore now dont give a shit. You cant even write a review yet on Amazon. Needless to say its only going to get worse as time goes on. We cant do much. File a complaint with the BBB towards SE California HQ and just take it in the ass from Yoshi P in the meantime. Ive been trying to get past the MSQ for well over 20 hours and I am beyond infuriated with how we as a playerbase are being treated.
Is this just an "early access" problem because of a limited number of servers active for new content during the early access period, and it will be resolved for sure on launch? Or is this something that's going to persist into launch?
It's likely something that will persist into launch. They're just twiddling their thumbs on this so far.
