Love The New System

I thought helaling was going to be different. And it is but in a great and fun Way! I'm actually healing as a SCH and not just letting my fairy do all the WORK!
I ran Ampador Hard a couple days ago, before 4.0, and spent the entire run in Cleric Stance dps'ing and letting Selene heal the entire run.
As random luck would have it I qued up today, the first dungeon roulette of 4.0, and got Ampador Hard again! I actually healed the entire run and did a little DPS as my party was doing great with killing he adds but I was also able as a SCH to feel useful as a healer.
I chose healer and play healer cause I like to support the team, dpsing is always something I had to do to fill the space and help my team kill mobs/bosses but with the current balancing of the battle system I can play my class how it should be played.

I know how you feel. I started the game as a SCH main but I didn't like how it played out in endgame; trying to get as much DPS in as you let the fairy do the healing. I haven't tried SCH yet but I'm excited to do so :)

Not sure if this is a troll post or not or just a major difference in point of view. Scholar has been dumbed down considerably. It's a much more boring class than what it was with not nearly enough tools to contribute to the party? You had to heal a lot in Ampdapor keep HM? Mate, with good management you don't have to heal anything. With the removal of cleric stance, I can DPS even more to be more useful. The idea that you have to heal more is a myth. The transition between DPS and healing is so easy that it should enable you to DPS more.

Seems like someone just prefer that if they are in the healer role, they actually have to primarily heal. Maybe SE really wanted to attack the state of SCH job using the fairy to avoid manual healing and put them more in line with WHM and AST in that regard. If you're not healing, don't expect your party to be sustained? I main WHM but have more recently spent a fair amount of time as SCH. In the past I've been bitten switching back to WHM forgetting that if I'm in cleric the tank has ZERO healing outside of a regen I applied (which isn't as good as a fairy).

Folks may feel this is dumbed down. Others may feel this is what they expected to do when playing a healer role.

Thanks Allis! I have to say I was sceptical but after that run I knew exactly what they're trying to do. And I love Yoshikawa and the FFXIV for balancing the game.

I actually like a ton of the changes to healers, too. It's just such a massive shift in meta that it's blindsiding us.

We healers really aren't meant to be another source of high damage, and we shouldn't have been stuck in that position. And natually there will be growing pains.

The only issue now is the bizarre balancing we have with SCH/WHM being slotted as pure healers, while AST still feels similar to it's 3.5 self, making it comparatively too powerful.

4.1 is gonna be wild.

If you love the new system, you clearly haven't touched SCH prior. They are really bad right now. No one at SE plays SMN/SCH and whoever suggested these changes and whoever signed off on them should be fired. They have no business being anywhere near anything balance related.

This is such a gross overreaction I have no response other than to call it out.

Healing is different. These abilities are different. Tanks and DPS are different. If the OP is enjoying those changes thats great! If you aren't that sucks but its no reason to be calling for someones job.

I tested some healer jobs today as well, and I do have to admit the changes made to mnd/int aren't bad, however the overall removal of some skills that made some jobs unique should have not happen. Also another rant, if I take a shot for every time I tried clicking on and off that cleric stance, I've been fully wasted within the first 10 minutes of the new expansion. I know we need to get used to that, but since they changed nearly everything already, could have changed at least the "wannabe" new cleric stance eh buff icon. It's irritating to see it with another function after years of playing. Make it blue for all I care if redesigning the picture would take to much resources lol.

Enjoying it? What's to enjoy? Less DoTs and a massive hit in AoE damage? Maybe they like that new skill Excogitation which is so poorly designed, it reeks of pre-cleric stance changes. Could it be Broil 2? Nah, it's mashing the same key you did for Broil. Shadow Flare nerfs? Sure, you are pressing that button less times. Could be more fun. Quickened Aetherflow? That ability is so bad I couldn't possibly begin to explain. Fey Union? Sure that's cool. 10y is kind of a short range.

SCH is so horribly designed now I am almost amazed. I can't believe any at SE actually thought this was okay. Then again, same company that buffs AST even more and handed out WHM RNG mechanics. People were paid for these ideas? Shift departments. Balance is nowhere near their strong suit. A simple glance at WHM and SCH would have made any competent game developer laugh.

Nothing about the old kit stopped anyone from healing; it actually rewarded you more for healing and generally playing well.

These changes appear geared towards encouraging SCHs to heal more on account of not having enough else to do. Or maybe on account of their Broil hotkey being jammed from overuse (see former point).

OP is the reason why SCH was nerfed. Understands nothing about the kit, finds it too hard, dumbs down the class for everyone.

I am not having the same experience as OP at all... I still heal the same... maybe less, but now doing dps has become mind numbingly awful. It's just not fun to play anymore.

I think we need to look at overall the changes to all the classes and how well they're balanced. Where a healer doesn't have to DPS as much or at all because dmg taken is balanced on the tank and DPS by the DPS Jobs are correctly balanced to allow each Role to work with eachother effectively.

But if I actually do that I don't see what you see. :( I still mitigate enough damage that my healers are bored out of their minds. Balance to heal more is fine if the incoming damage requires it but that isn't the case so if you are healing more it's because something else not the class balance. No one can test the new zones that I know so I have no idea what the new trials or dungeons will do, but running stuff last night was hearing my healers complain on voip how bored they were.

I am trying to ride scholar out to level 70, but right now scholar is draining me. It's so boring. When doing level 60 dungeons people don't take enough damage to have to heal, but dpsing is god awful now. Really SE, we use dots as our dps, why take half of them away?

Not only that but on the healing front, I can really tell that our healing has gotten worse. Also our mp management is awful now, so even if I want to full-time heal it's bad.

I really hope something is done, but right now scholar is just.... not fun to play. It used to be so active, but now it feels like they told us to sit in a corner.

I can take a guess as to what you're getting at, but so far I'm not seeing it.

Hell, even the new actual healing ability, Excog, is fairly useless in dungeon play (not that I really spend more time healing than before; I just have fewer DPS actions, so I Broil like a mfing Burger King).

In other words, it feels more or less the same in practice, just less fun.

i know this feeling to well its super sad. i feel like i got mugged and beaten.

It's like the same job, but now you have even less to do! Fun, right!?
