I figured there would be a lot of pissed Pugilists. Haven't seen a thread on it so I am guessing no?
But I can see Intelligence as a main stat for pugilists, when you are modeled after Dudely from Streetfighter.
Apparently Pug's need to be Intelligent to punch things in the face.
PUG using Intelligence made more sense than GLD using Mind, when i first thought of it, i can only guess GLDs mind is for PLD. but with PUGs elemental attacks and defence its not a huge surprise to use intelligence

It's a good thing there is so much melee armour with Int on it.. oh wait...
It was pretty clear we would need Int as soon as they told us we'd have "stances" that leech MP, good to see they also added another incentive to put points to Int.
Armor not having Int is not an issue, rather it saves you points you can allocate for Int for example. Or any other stat you prefer to push further (Str).
For crying out loud, the abbreviation for Pugilist is PGL, not PUG!

As said before, PGL become jack of all trade, the master of none.
With damage attribute share between STR and INT, make it even harder to build up dps. Would be easier if it had been DEX+STR.

The reason its not MND is because XI uses MND on PUG and this is not XI its XIV, they have to be different, so its INT. true story.
I like the change. PUG (Pgl abbreviation is dumb :P) is meant to do both physical and magical damage. It only makes sense they'd use the stats that boost both to increase their damage. I was hoping PUG would get auto-refresh or something this patch to help with the MP costs, but I guess that's exclusive to the mage classes. Oh well, we shall see how the new self-absorbent MP-sponge DPS goes.

why make a big fus about INT add dmg for PUG ? ._.
PUG have toggle add elemental dmg , elemental dmg inrease by INT as ingame mechanic so in some point thing does connect
the "mind" it mean is the though = brain = intelligent = mental stable (mean no panic, no surprise, no doubt)
This doesn't only apply to Monk, it apply to all fighting art
not the "mind" in game

PUG truly looks like its either going to sink or swim - no middle ground.

I think it's just hard to find a gear that's boost both str and int... (even the old system -str to +int or -int to +str)
most of melee gears are str dex vit tie together.
and most INT boost gears are mage only.
Maybe the rings and the new stat boost crafting can change it.
Well come to think about it... SE just want to break the myth that sportsman/bodybuilder can be smart!?
I guess something like this was coming when I saw you could meld INT materia into pug weapons. Same for gla and mind as well.
To what materia to what weapons they can be bond, as been showing what the dev team has had in mind for the classes.
Well, no, they didn't single out PGL for an off stat becauseof elemental stances, or any other reason, they gave every class an off stat that contributes to AA.
Thank you captain obvious. It was a comment referring to the phrased he used compared to the in game stats avaliable, and the one chosen. Refering to the phrase itself not the reasoning of SE for choing it.
You should of used the bolded portion that you wrote and applied it to you thought process, or lack there of before making this post.

How ever the weight of these bonuses particularly these auto attack ones have yet to be seen.
