Positionals in the Open World

I was just going through the stream archives for the recent live letter they did and noticed enemies in the open world have the positional requirements. I was wondering if they would make it like PotD where open world enemies while you do quests don't have positionals on them. I just find it annoying when melee jobs can be doing more damage than they should but can't because you are fighting by yourself you can't hit behind or on the side of the enemy unless you stun but stuns aren't always available.

For example SAM have positional for their skills which allow them to gain 10 kenki instead of 5 but they will pretty much always get 5 (besides yukikaze because that has no positional requirement) because they can only hit the front of the mob.

Just a little issue I have personally nothing big. If they don't change it then I'm not too bothered just a small QoL change for melee jobs.

Eventually, they will do exactly what they did for Dragoon (twice). Allow you to activate the ability from any position but give you a better potency if you get the positional and difference will be negligible when considering open world content.

Isn't a thing without an incredibly significant investment and ongoing maintenance. In other words, not an option in design decisions.

As to the OP, positionals in the open world have been a thing since day one and thus it's extremely unlikely that this will ever change.

You do realize that you've just outright defeated your own argument in your first post, right?

Most open world mobs will de in seconds anyway.

But one thing that can help is the 15 seconds no positional buff that all Melee will get as cross class. But it is 180 seconds CD or something like that...

SB will include a cross-role buff to always trigger any positional condition, not perfect but it's enough for those few "important" fights.

Slightly.......ehhh who am I kidding...very off topic but in a youtube comment under a vid about MMOs I was basucally called a retard who can't speak english (I have a degree in english so that can't really be possible) for thinking positionals is a word and since I think people call these things positionals apparently I also don't know a thing about the game.

On topic: as Xlantaa said, most mobs die anyway even if you don't do your rotation properly. And you'll get that new cross-role skill later.

In the overworld you can run from stuff if things get bad. In palace you just die if you can't dish the damage fast enough.

You should be able to get all positionals without a tank. Just stand as close as you can to the enemy's center, W through and instantly hit the back-attack as you're passing, or at a diagonal (WA/WD) and instantly hit the flank attack. I can say from experience that this works even at 300 ms latency, quite reliably.

I know there is a term for "creating" a new word, like "positionals"; I don't know it, I am not an English major, though I have used it my Whole life, but even I know we can create new word to describe things in an instant. Thats why endings like ish, esc, ette, ite, etc. exist. Just look at this game Sophic or Zurvanite arent "words" that I know of, but i know what they mean regardless.

Also for this threads topic, I think basic targets in the field not needing positionals would be great, but if they can die fast enough its fine I guess.

This. You can hit your positionals as DRG, MNK, as long as you have good positioning and time it well.

You shouldn't need to do that though, positionals should only be a thing in actual group content (dungeons, raids, etc). Although ultimately, positionals shouldn't be a thing anyways. It's just needlessly complex mechanics for the sake of it, to make it appear like the combat is deep. It isn't though, it's superficial fluff that just makes actual gameplay a chore.

Yeah, open world mobs (except maybe hunts) should be be similar to how PotD mobs lack positionals.

I think they mentioned a shared role skill "True North" that removes positional requirements for 15s. That should help a bit once Stormblood comes

I think for solo instanced content, the positional requirements should be got rid of. OR... you should have an NPC tank that is an aggro overlord (I've seen this a fair bit in aforementioned solo instanced content) to handle tanking so you can focus on the positionals.

I'd actually be pretty fine if they removed positional requirements altogether - and just made enemies a little tougher to compensate. I do not see that happening, though.

I have RP / character personality issues with required flank and back attacks - "There is no HONOR attacking from behind!!!" :D

The chore/mechanics of having to work the timing, solo? I never have thought of that as a burden on my play. It just is.

(My ping has always been 77-80 ms, before and after)

Watching Squee make the low-level content easier and easier over the years (changing the Aethernet names so people can find places with ease [Coral Tower vs Marauder's Guild etc]; bypassing the L5 gear checks; giving out a complete set of right-side accessories which are good until L18 or so; Hall of the Novice gear; other items); was the original learning curve, really that steep?

Probably not. Maybe they just want to make sure people can get to the expansion content quicker. Which is counter productive as the quicker they reach the end, the sooner they want more.

As for RP: Well my other character comes from Othard. Wutai, specifically. Her backstory was even mentioned in my spooky story contest entry (was one of the winners. yaaay). But now we know that we are going to Othard, and there does not seem to be a city, town or castle named Wutai.
So, what I'm trying to say is: we all need to adapt.

I dunno - I try to up my game by timing stun with the enemy's aoe and also using that chance to attack from flank or behind. Sure, I lose some dps, but it's also a nice opportunity to practice how to make abilities count. :)
