While I don't mind other scion tagging along and dwelling more into their stories, I quite like Alphinaud and hope he will be part of the story in 4.0.
Well I know at least he will follow us from the Revolutions video, but still hope that we will seem him all along 4.x.
Yes, of course he is the main character to the plot.
He will be with us through the very end, and he will sacrifice himself for Eorzea and have a bloody death.
I do hope that somewhere along the expansions he should 'age' up and get older.
i thought we're the main character? is it because hes the grandson of louisoix?
Fair enough, but don't forget that "I'm" the main character and not to sound greedy, the story should revolve around "me", the one in control, and not some secondary character that I really feel no sympathy for.
White Knight Chronicles did this mistake too, forcing you to make an avatar who follows the MC, and while I could control him as well...why didn't they just make the MC customizable or just drop the idea? And that game wasn't really an mmorpg either, so it made even less sense to that regard. I can give it some slack here but, I thought this was an epic story about the warrior of light, and not the transporter!
And on the regard about the "world", I got 3 words that describe my take on this: "Show, don't tell". Oh, and drop the instancing already: it's hard to feel in a world where I get loading screens every 3 nanoseconds!
Both the twins will be along for the ride but I get the feeling Lyse will play a more central role in our travels. We have seen cutscenes with us with both Twins but literally every scene shown with the WoL also had Lyse in it. By the look of it most of the Scions will be staying in Ala Mhigo though. We only take a few with us to Doma.
I'm not really surprised Alphinaud is tagging along again after all he went through with us in Stormblood. I get the impression our little group is going to being acting as a diplomatic party for Eorzea in this particular conflict.
I like to think I'm making him feel more secure about being the shortest non-Lalafell Scion (Though I'm pretty sure I'm still slightly taller even as a minimum height female Au Ra), so the thought of him hitting his growth spurt and suddenly towering over me is rather amusing.
I think it's going to be a bigger group and more hectic changes due to the setting
I understand that it might be annoying if you at the same time dont even like that character but the problem is that our character cant talk. Without a character like Alphinaud that is in a way our voice we would just stand there completely silent. In single player games with a silent protagonist you can kinda forge your own way through different kind of choices and talk options. But in FF14 there are no different ways (other than flavor text that changes nothing) to react and SE does not want to put too much reaction onto our characters since not everyone sees him/her like that. So they have someone else react and talk for us.
If we dont want this we would have to accept that the WoL would turn into SEs character with answers and emotion that might not be how we would have reacted. Sometimes this already happened and I hope that they will keep some of the emotions and reactions for further stories since it felt more like my character was alive and not some puppet that nods along. But there is a really fine line between it being fine or overdoing it and thus taking away the aspect of the WoL being our character.
there are plenty other games that nailed silent protagonist. i just hope yda doesnt become another errand girl to alphinaud like every scion in 3.0 in her own expansion.
best scenario for me would be to have him go away somewhere for a while like his sister early in the expansion. gosetsu/lyse/yugiri/hien wouldve been cool crew and deserved all the screentime, but it seems like we're gonna have to babysit alphinaud yet again
They said we would have new journey companions.
I would like to see us travel with his sister a bit more now, she did kind of go missing throughout the story until the end, I would like to see the world through her mindset. I think Alphinaud should now act like Minfilia did throughout ARR and be the one dealing with Scion politics
The trailer showed Lyse in all scenes, I think Lyse is the new main companion.
Lyse might be the new main companion for couple of patches. But nevertheless, Alphi will be with us to the very end of FFXIV.
I kind of wish they do something like FFXV where, you go somewhere like go to the WoD world or something and become stuck. When you return all the key NPC's have aged. Then he can stop being a whiny kid and in our absent takes things into his own hands and grows up. It be a cool climax for FFXIV where we disappear from the world, and all hell breaks loose. Continents taken over by Garleans, Beast-tribes gaining power and having Primals running loose and towns and camps destroyed and so forth.
You end up saving Erozea once again by cleaning up the mess and visiting the old places. Only to know that deep down, nothing ever changes in Eorzea, it will always be this. WoLs come and go, and in the end, things only stay quiet for a while. Or have a big huge explosion and you disappear and go to the future and our character is born again. That be a really cool epic ending for a story line if you ask me.
It be a really cool ending sort of way, don't you agree?
I haven't seen him in all the primal fights and dungeons so I wouldn't call him the main character
Agreed there. I certainly hope that Alphinaud will take a step back in Stormblood. I certainly wouldn't want him eliminated, but he has had his spotlight.
PS: no, Alphinaud is not the main character. The main character is the warrior of light, and this is the declared change from 1.0 to 2.0 and onward. Being a silent protagonist doesn't mean that you aren't the main character.
In 1.0, the player was a silent bystander. In 2.0 the player was shifted to the main protagonist, albeit still silent, which was an extremely welcome change.
You are the main character. Your basically the centre of the universe. The story is all a out you you you.
Right down to the cutscenes. Say you beat bwlsaer wall and get that cutscenes at the end. Where are the 3 people that were in your party and helped you they don't exist. It was you that did it alone pretty much.
The story revolves entirely around you that's why it's all solo... you're the warrior of light you beat ravannah single handedly pretty much as far as the story is concerned. not with 7 other warriors of light.
The story is centred around you. Not around the world your a part of.. which is pretty much why the main scenario is solo.i find that the worst part of the story to be honest. Never feels like my friends are part of it because there never involved in any of the cutscenes.
As a result it's very much "I did it" and never actually "WE did it" and that kinda sucks.
One thing I miss from xi in that regard. The stories there the world was pretty much the centre of the universe you were a part of it.
In this you are the centre of the universe. The world is just a part of it
Rocket-Boots needs to go. I'm so sick of him and his wimpy whining attitude. His sister is far more assertive, I like her much more Alf is a little Edge-Lord minus a sword.
I know that taste is subjective but I am kinda sad that he is so hated. I mean people want characters with faults and not perfect NPCs. So we have a teenage (!) boy that comes to Eorzea all high and mighty, with the though that he can just simply change the world only for it to go all south. SE kinda puts him down quite hard. Thanks to him (and us..because we are at fault there too..like choosing certain people or ignoring evidence..) people died, or are injured for life. He is kinda depressive over that (who wouldnt be) but learns from it and tries to get better. He might still have some parts of his own self but 3.0 is nothing like 2.0. He is one of the NPCs character that got the most character development and with all his reactions and actions kinda feel way more real than any of the scions. Because he is still a teenager and missing experience but he is also willing to learn.
So I am sorry for that little off topic, I just cant see how he is truly that wimpy or whining anymore through 3.0. Unlike other characters in this story he at least tries to save his friends and not just accept them as necessary causalities.
(Well you might notice that he is one of my favorites x))
