PvP Changes... Can we also get XP for playing?

I'm really excited about the PvP changes coming in Stormblood... Hopefully it's not too much to ask that we get XP for playing PvP, thus allowing us to level up the different jobs we have unlocked as a fun way to level up that job outside of PvP. :)

I know some will worry that you'll then have high level players who don't know PvE because they leveled through PvP and while I understand that argument, there is already jump potions, POD, and other content that does the same thing... so why not for those who want to PvP and level? :)

I actually think that's an interesting idea. I mean, you would certainly learn more about your job through PVP than spamming PotD or FATE grinding, so I don't see any reason why not!

Except you wouldn't because of the upcoming changes to PvP actions. I support the idea of using PvP as another option for leveling, though.

It's a tough balance for sure... The idea in my head that plays out... is someone uses the story skip potion, and then just PvPs to get their levels.

Or...

Someone has say like their Warrior at Cap, but wants to level PLD, or DRK... But want to PvP etc... why not let them level up a take. Sure their will be an adjustment because it's two different systems, but they get to play and level another way. (same goes for DPS too)

Anyway... that's just my hope, as I'd love to have another option for leveling.

But... we are leveling in PvP - our PvP-rank just needs to become meaningful again.

I dont really think we need another option for PvE-leveling - and I dont think that that option should be PvP.
I'm not only worried to have people who dont know PvE later because they leveled in PvP but also the opposite: Have people in PvP who dont know how to play their class because they've never really played it before.

Yeah, this is the downside of using PvP for leveling since people might not care whether they win or lose as long as they get EXP and some might even just semi-AFK. But I'm not worried about people not knowing PvE stuff because we're getting level skip items soon anyway so it won't really matter anymore where we get our EXP.

Well, you're in for a treat in that regard, because PvP will be available from level 30 onward now.

PvP and PvE are going to be separated in terms of playstyle now as well, so knowledge of one does not substantially help or hinder the other. The ability to read and comprehend tooltips however will remain an invaluable asset in a player's skill repertoire.

Personally, I don't see why not. I'd just say it shouldn't be an "efficient" way of leveling so that people who only want the XP will be more inclined to go elsewhere to get where they want to be faster.

Bad players are going to be bad players. How they level a job isn't going to change that. If you think it does you're just fooling yourself, the players that actually care learn their rotations and practice them.

I'm for leveling through PvP.

XP efficiency is certainly one way to "popularize" PvP...just saying (and I hope it never happens.) I honestly wish PvP had never been added...but you know, those tens of dozens of really loud people who just can't choose one of the million games dedicated to PvP just have to have it in their FF MMO - whatever, it provides easy gear for gearing up to do the MSQ before SB for me I suppose.

Please stay on topic, PvP is a part of the game whether you want it to be or not. The topic here is should PvP grant exp or not as you can nowsoon start queuing for PvP at level 30.

Well, in fairness: Everything you can find in this game, other things will provide you better.
You like stories? Movies, Books and Single-Player games are far better at that.
You like raiding? WoW, Wildstar, Monster Hunter... lots of games out there that can scratch your itch better.
Chocobo Racing? Just play Mario Kart.
PvP? League of Legends, Counter-Strike, etc etc. You can also join a local soccer club or something.
Crafting/Gathering? There are dedicated survival and crafting games for that. And you can also just start a workshop IRL.
Socializing? There are chats, social media etc.

Why people play MMOs as such is quite a mystery - I suppose they're the red mages of games: Jack of all trades, master of none.

Would like to see the ability to level through PvP!

One suggestion is that perhaps you can buy a very potent EXP tool via PvP tokens - it's not really leveling through PvP but it does get around the issue of playing a different skill set between the two (it means you still have to play the other, but just a lot less of it). Just make sure that the EXP tool (scroll or whatever) on top of the PvE content = amazing way to level, otherwise it's just a silly idea lol.

So like a scroll maybe that gives you like 10-15% more exp for an hour? Something like that? I'd be okay with that as well, haha. Just SOMETHING I'm sure other like myself have been sitting at capped wolf marks for months, need something to spend them on!

i think PvP Roulette giving XP once a day is okay. i think XP scrolls from Wolf Marks is okay too.

with the changes that are coming, i don't like the idea of people just doing PvP and getting XP for participating in PvP matches.

This is something done in both GW2 and WoW and really helps the leveling up process with some variety. Also it won't have any impact on people leveling up and not knowing proper play of their classes. Right now its PotD. Before it was Fates. In fact this could add incentive to put stuff in the PvP vendors since Wolf Marks get obsolete very fast.

I don't care for PvP but this should happen.

Lock the XP to the completion of the match, similar to PotD. Not only this, I also think the game should always have full itemization on pair with PvE in PvP zones.

Replicate the tome gearup structure in PvP. Give weekly caps, and give a series of items in weekly lockouts to augment the gear slowly, but always make sure there is iLvL parity with tome gear.

Right now, even if I cared for PvP, I would feel the lure of the PvE grind as a more efficient use of my time because PvP rewards are mostly glamour. Not sure if at some point PvP rewards were considered equally good, I have not been playing that long, I just know there is no way for me to get 270 pvp gear (or am I wrong?)

My comment was on topic you just focused on something that clearly is the opposite of your opinion - the answer is YES, of course you should get XP for PvP, but make it just as ***** as FATES. Is that better? No side show should ever give better XP than the main attraction.

True, they are jack of all trades... and I have yet to see a single current day MMO not have terrible PvP and this game is no exception which is why I said I wish they had never added it.

Well, it could at least be an addition to the Frontline Roulette.

The flaw in your statement is the opinion that it's a "side show". By that logic, anything that isn't MSQ shouldn't give XP. And no one's saying it should give better XP than say, dungeons would, however your bias against PvP is showing all too clearly there, and it detracts from your overall points.

That aside, I'm all for PvP giving XP. And for those who are concerned, while it won't teach you your rotations per se, it's VERY good for building up situational awareness, teamwork, timing and reflexes (currently, my record for limit breaks dodged consecutively is 5). The important thing is to approach it with an open mind and not only be willing to learn how to do it, but how to do it differently than what you may already know.

No, the highest PvP gear currently is i235, and though it's all scaled to i180 (or i150, I forget in the moment), it highlights the disparity between gear/rewards between PvE and PvP. Before the Garo event, our highest gear was i205, and it was introduced in 3.25 with the Feast. . . then nothing til 3.5. This kind of neglect needs to change if SE really wants to attract more people to PvP. Sure, we still get tomes as always (I haven't run Expert roulette in 2 months but cap every week), but Wolf Marks racked up quick, even before the 3.5 payout increases. Assuming you bought the cheerleader minion and the orchestrion rolls, there wasn't much else to do with them, and the PvP materia that's been useless since ARR is STILL THERE, SE.

If they truly wish to revamp PvP and give it proper attention, I'm willing to wait and see, but as of yet, their track record of support and positive changes are rather lacking. I however will remain optimistic for now.

Then you should consider revising your original post without the vitriol towards PvP. Your added quip towards PvP doesn't add to this conversation, it only takes away from it. If you don't think PvP should be in the game at all then fine, go make a different thread addressing that. THIS thread however is about how PvP could be used as potentially another avenue to gain exp and level. But I do agree with you that PvP should not be nearly as optimal for leveling as dungeons or MSQ.
