Why is a level 35 item better than a Primal's loot?

I present to you Anathema and Ifrit's Cudgel.

At level 35, Anathema -- which drops from a soloable mid-rank Notorious Monster -- boasts MP+24, Int+4 and Attack Magic Potency +17.

At 50, Ifrit's Cudgel -- which requires a party of eight and a lot of luck after even winning the battle to obtain -- gives Attack Magic Potency +20 as it's only relevant stat. Sure, it gives Fire Resistance +15 and Additional Effect: Fire Damage. But if played properly, either of those stats should come into play.

So, is there something I'm missing, or is my assessment accurate?

Devs have acknowledged that the caster itemization in 1.19 was a traveshamockery. They probably won't retroactively change it but instead do better with the moogle loot -- at least, that's the hope.

Give the moogle weapon the same ATK, but please another bonus stats

you would think with the class reform and CON/THM having a clear direction now, the moogle weapon would be

CON - high magic healing

THM - high magic damage potency

if not, it will be a huge mistake

Devs already stated that they were most likely going to redo the mage Ifrit weapons.

It doesn't glow, so it's not any better.

I don't want Ifrit's weapon for the stats, I want Ifrit's weapon because it is IFRIT'S WEAPON! :D
Getting items for the stats is so temporary, better stuff comes out every 3 months, why bother?

Thing is, there is no other way to get fire resist on a weapon other than ifirt weapons. Besides the L36 Brand of Fire (Attack Magic Potency : +18, Fire Magic Potency : +9, Fire Resistance : +9). Granted, few, if any, people give a crap about defensive stats. Elemental resist materia can only be put on shield, body, and waist. So you want to cap your fire resist, Ifirt weapon might be needed. I think the DEVs wanted the ifirt gear to be something you cannot make with materia. Besides,the 24 MP is equal a level II materia and the 4 int is equal a level one materia... hardly a huge jump.

Yes, having great stats is important, but not having the best stats. Best stats is temporary anyway, not the weapon in itself. :D

Same as was in xi. The moment u got that body armor up pops an expansion or patch and that equip is now junk or relatively outdated for the newer higher quality gear. Its a 3 to 6 month thing, besides aftet that long most people start tp bitch and moan about how boreing or old their gear is anyways and want a change amirite

what the hell are you talking about? before the level cap was raised replacing a piece of gear to the point you could store it was so rare that I personally had at least 5 body pieces, a few hands and feet at least a couple heads, several legs and a multitude of mainhand weapons and a shield for good measure on WHM alone, hell when one of the mini-expansions was released, all it did was ADD a body piece to my rotation

Incorrect sir. In XI, There were countless pieces of gear that were good for several years. Many items were the best for one specific situation.

I suppose I'd rather have gear obsoleted every so often VS doing gear swaps (like in XI) with 60 pieces of gear per job, just so that we can have gear that is not obsoleted every 6months-1year.

Sorry but wrong. XI's gear lasted a lot more then 3-6 months back when the game was good (pre-abyssea). Some gear changed yes but not all and not the majority. If you got a piece of armor then soon it changed and wasn't optimal anymore. That's because its been out for a long time and you were slow to get it.

I'll take ranger for example all the way up to abyssea.

Weapon-(Hellfire+1/Ebow)(Craftable/NM never changed til abyssea

Head-Wyvern helm(+1)/Hunter's Beret+1 (Craftable/CoP) then finally changed to Zha'go' barbut (SCNM drop 2-3 years later)

Body-Kirin's osode (sky)stayed best for tp/ws until ACP came out 4-5 years after and replaced it for tp only.

Hands- Seriyu's kotes/CFG(sky) stayed best for tp/ws until Skadi's replaced for WS only 2-3 years later.

legs-Scout's braccea(Dynamis) was best til Skadi's came out (salvage) 2-3 years later

feet- Trotter's(never replaced for speed) (scout's socks (dynamis) never replaced

So as you see most of the gear lasted a long time. Kept people doing the old content. and kept the content worth doing. A Mistake they are making with XIV by wanting short term content.

I think spellcasters were generally boned from the start of this game, not only do we have only 2 DoM, but also our entire wardrobe seems to be comprised of only bath robes and settler jackets in different colors, while DoW get chainmail, platemail, leather, salets, celatas, barbuts, etc.... this is really just one more insult on top of many other insults that DoMs have suffered, at this point why even bother bringing it up? we'll always be a second rate class with second rate gear and a second rate image, this is just the way SE perceives mages in this game.

I'm not real sure what point you are attempting to get to. Every game is pretty much like this.
it's just different materials. Mages/wizards have always worn robes and for most part always will.

This isn't an excuse for them, really it shows how crystal tools had absolutely no business developing a MMO, but gear sets take close to 5-6 months for them to make from scratch.

Hopefully with this new engine they will be able to produce gear sets more easily and alleviate what you just said. Hopefully.

I wish moogle weapon would have 1000+ attack power and 1 hit everything and everyone. Joking ofc. Meh.

The fire damage is actually nice if you using the weapon as a physical weapon. However, um...who uses THM or CON for physical attack...he heee....

there, there. SE might not have the love for you mages. but the community still loves you. all i ever hear when ppl shout to make a party its always 6/8 and need DoM. healers make the world go round

Agreed, but generally they tend to have some flare to them, you know, patterns and accents, something to still give them a little personality, but in this games most robes are literally just cloth, one color cloth, I know there are a few robes that got a bit of personality to them but not nearly as many as there are armors. it just gives off the impression like armors were designed and robes were an afterthought, which might just be my imagination, still i can't help but feel this way.

Its is like this cause the Devs have no clue what they are doing. Get used to it for it is going to be a VERY bumpy ride for this next year and a half.
