Phoenix down should be combat ready!

Like the title says I think phoenix down is currently little more than a courtesy rez for our fellows in the field. It has so much wasted potential! Imagine your any non healer class that isn't a summoner. you can now rez your healer just in time! Or maybe help your healer out by rezing that blm or dragoon that keeps dying.

Considering it can't stack and it has a long cast time I don't feel this is op at all. It would be one use per dungeon and a great help. Instead of being that item you use to rez your best friend who just started.

I actually agree with this. Since it doesn't stack and is unique, the amount a party could have of them would still keep in check but it could actually have some crisis management use on dungeon runs. You still couldn't habitually keep ressing a healer who has tendency to die, but maybe avoid that one "wtf just happened" wipe with good reacting. Maybe keep this behaviour out of PvP, not sure of that kind of balance.

I agree with this as well. They could simply add a cooldown to the player who was raised with a Phoenix Down if they want to prevent abuse of it in Raid content. Make it so if you're Raised with a Phoenix Down you can't be Raised with another for like 3 minutes or something. That seems fair enough because players shouldn't be depending on them but having them as an emergency backup would be nice.

Personally I'd prefer them to stack than to be used in combat.

Also I can see future parties leaving the instance after every wipe to pick up another phoenix down. If you're going to be expected to use them in combat, than they should stack.

I think making rezing that easy would be something they wouldn't want to do for the sake of balance.

I would also point out that unless they have swiftcast off cd it takes 6 seconds to cast a raise so rezing isn't trivial, particularly during high damage periods. Would you still be as interested in Phoenix Down for combat if it actually had a raise cast time on it's use?

I think so, I can think of times a healer could LB3 to save the whole party but goes down first on accident. having someone else raise that healer would be nice. even with a cast time, a good dps or tank could rez a healer for a save.

I think Down shouldn't stack, it should be last resort only.

If it was combat use, it would probably need to stack and be more easily gettable. Otherwise, every time you wipe a prog raid you go run PotD to restock. :P

You don't see the annoying part of doing that every wipe, or people withholding their phoenix downs because they don't want to be expected to go buy another?

Can you imagine if all your gear broke after wipe and you had to leave to repair it?

Do bear in mind the fact that if they were this useful, they'd probably sell for a lot more than 14 til on the Marketboards...

Seriously, though, given the number of times I've seen a group biff a raid mechanic and everyone dies except for the tanks, a combat-ready phoenix down could conceivably allow the group to recover from even that - and that is exactly why I think this will never happen. SE WANTS those failed mechanics to mean the end of the fight. They don't ever want to see a situation where a tricky mechanic can be cheesed just by letting it happen, and having the surviving tanks reconstruct the group afterwards.

that's not a big issue if the cast time is long enough and can be interrupted.

i would like to see what World First raiders do with it. will they actually back out of the fight every time to restock and drive the price of them on the MB up to 6 digits or realize it's not a sane part of progression strategy.

May cause balance issues but it would be nice. Or at least stack / not consume (maybe a special alchemist version is non-consumeable). Another thing to make them more useful would be that they remove sickness/raise you without sickness (but this would be important to be non-combat ready then). So I'd love to see a change to make them more interesting :D

Completely agreed. Before Potd came out and gave it at least some use I used to just discard them, as they didnt even have marketboard value.

I agree, they should be able to be used in combat. After all they are a unique item with a 1 time use and you can only hold 1 at any given time.
