New Pug

Hi all,
Have a question from a new player. I heard that 1.19 kind of nerfed the Pug....is this true or what can you all explained that happened to the Pugilist? I really want to level one along side my marauder class, but kind of want to know what tasks (i.e. tanking, support, dps) role they are fulfilling now? Thank you all for any answers to these questions.

Pug changes next week with update so I would wait for then :) LINK

I don't think pug got any nerf, maybe a small one, but Second Wind is still a must have skill. It's probly just the fact that if ur not a MRD, LNC, or CNJ, ppl think ur useless for the ifrit battle, tho that really isn't true.

But as stated above the classes will change a lot in less than a week, so we'll see which classes will be FOTM then.

No nerf, he just has a weakness on Ifrit's last stage due to small reach and he has no signature armor that compliments his abilities.
Other than that if he has Keen Flurry he is fine at what he does.

will Victimize II got a big CD same as Maim tho Doomspike II don't 1/10 of the CD really till now i don't know why the guy's in SE want to power up lnc over other's till now it's a big shock i didn't say make pug the best but make them all DD worth having not one over another

one more think multi hit in all class's has no draw back why pug need to evade to use his skill great job on that SE

Pug just got nerfed HARD.

I was able to throw some 700-800 with no materia stuff, only batraal dungeon stuff on a sentinel beastmen in thanaland.

I even didn't used any attack boost skills or either Blindside.

I also haven't put any stats yet on my caracteristic menu.

I Noticed that when I activate Fire stance, my damage becomes less, I wonder if it is because my Inteligence stat is low, or because Amaljaa have fire resistance....

what i've noticed, is fire stance gave me +200~ attack :p

It's definitely the fire resist. I used it on some Ixali and my damage increased. Even with fire stance I was on par with a Mrd friend I duo'ing with at Zahark. I was using Earth fists and taking the same dmg he did in Colbalt.

i used it on a 40 mob and it's indeed lowering my damage... (on a raptor).
and my damage got higher on a 46 salamander... lol

Lol I did the same thing! I was talking with a couple other PGL in LS thinking Fire was broken or I needed INT because I was fighting amal'jaa >.>. After I realized I was an idiot I tried it out on other non fire resistant mobs and it worked quite well. On a side note, earth fists also increase damage so long as its not resistant to earth, increased damage on hit against ifrit as well.

I hear that you can heal ifrit with fire , is that true?
Fire fists boosts my attack from 555 to 686

The stances do say that they turn your attack to that element, not only the bonus dmg. That's what I overlooked when testing it and yeah... when fighting fire mobs i do less damage

So from gear perspective what will you guys wear on head? The Maat's cap or Silver Tricorn +1 Melded with Inteligence?
Ill propably go with both.

I'm loads of 50's short of crown so I will be sticking with the trusty Tricorne for now, just need to pick up an INT IV materia for it now.

I'm gonna try Silver Tricorn + INT IV (missing one class for maat cap H.Q)

Anyone considered Raptorskin Pot Helm? Int +2, Accuracy +5, Fire resistance +10. It also has the advantage of easier to get materials to craft it, meaning it will be easier to multi-meld several INT materia in it.

Messed around with PUG a bit on Ifrit.

Fists of Earth does increase your autoattack damage quite a bit, but MP draining at 30 MP per punch means that you cannot sustain it for very long. I think it's best to auto attack without the buffs until 3k TP, then turn on Fists of Earth and do your combos. Turn it off to regain TP as your recast timers cool down.

Howling fist damage was around 550 with Fists of Earth up. Simian thrust totals around 400. Other WS do around 150.

I know that I was doing 850+ damage on Moogles with Howling fist combo though (unbuffed and no stances on)

953 on moogles here (blindside, no stance). Biggest problem for me atm is server lag. I keep on being "too far away from the target" even though i'm already up a mob's ass. That or combos not firing cause the mob rotated away server side but not client side.

I do this with fists of fire and its good practice. Also when your rocking 3000 tp, toggle that stance, fire off the first 2, FULL BUFFS+KEEN FLURRY, howling fist. rinse and repeate so you get 2 HUGE heavy hitting t3s, then toggle it off and start the roatation over. On moogles last night i was hitting regularly for over 1200+ dmg and in the games current state we are stand alone the HIGHEST SINGLE TARGET DPS in the game. I am beyond happy with the current state of pugs, our utility and rescource management mechanic is fun and our damage when geared/materia/statted correctly is AWSOME. PGL/MNK will forever be my main and only class I enjoy. .........................until THF or NIN appears!

I got a 1900 crit with Howling fist on a 49 raptor, without using fist. Was just messing around. I do enjoy pug more now and really can't wait for the fist of wind. We may be able to evasion tank at that point.

THM is still the king of burst dps but pug is up there.

Yup. However when THM runs out of MP, PGL is still going strong. :D

I'm new, with a few questions.

How long did it take you guys to reach level 50?

Can I solo well as a PUG?

Depends on the method of leveling.
If solo 1-2 months or more, if party about 1-2 weeks, If you have PL 2-3 days (Although I don't know how well PL works these days.)

Pug is the best soloer

THM should not even be mentioned from an end game dps perspective. They dont have the mana pool, or the ability to balance mana to dps effectively. SE sort that shit out and give them convert or something.

I land on red blinking almost immediately with Fists of Fire on when killing the GLA in moogle battle and i stay at that even if I hold back. It's fun compared to 1.19 :D

Not true. If you take THM with you to moogle fight there dps can rival that of an archer. We have even had thm's outdamage the archers. The fight goes much faster with a thm or 2 as well. (this is easily noticalbe at the begining when the single moogles die faster then the next spawns, and you have 5-10 sec of nothing going on)

Before you just dismiss the THM you should see the class in action, it works quit well.

THM is helpful on moogle, especially vs the gladiator, but their dps is pretty bad for the fight as a whole... I stopped going on thm and started just full time nuking on conjurer and I do more damage on con sadly...

More on topic.... melee dps can be difficult because of server lag and moogles constantly running in circles. It tells you out of range, so you actually have to run infront of the moogles.

THM is great DPS for Phase 1, but in Phase 2 it's only use really comes down to Blizzara. It's DPS in no way will rival an ARC for the duration of the fight due to MP recovery limitations. The ARC has to be quite bad.

Depending on your kill order, THM can be just as effective in phase II as well. The King and all non mage moogles take a beating from a THM's burst dps.

If you do not have the magic acc to pull off your combos effectively then you have no right being in there as a thm.

One THM in your group will let you kill faster then all archers.

I'm well aware of the importance of magic accuracy for THM DPS.
I'm well aware of the weakness to nuking that the GLA, MRD and King have.

Having made use of both pieces of info, with THM being my 2nd most played class after ARC since 1.20 I can safely say that no, THM DPS never even gets close to average ARC DPS for that fight.

The thing about killorder in phase II is, you're killing all 7 anyway. Sure a certain order may assist with THM's MP recovery, but overall it's not going to help enough. The gap is too drastic. A nuking CNJ is much more effective in Phase II than a THM.

There is no way a nuking Conj can keep up with the DPS of a nuking THM. He just has other abilities that lend to better survival. Just as a Thm is gimped healing, and Conj is gimped Nuking. You have to work with the skill of your fellow players. If none of them can keep up the dps to be just below archers then your are probably right and they should not be a thm.

Just because you can't/or choose not to do it doesn't mean it isn't a viable strategy.

I never said it wasn't viable to bring THMs to moogle or to beat Moogle with them. If most certainly is.

All I am saying is, in response to your assessment of THM DPS in the Moogle fight, is that it does not and cannot match up to the DPS of a competent ARC. Also, an exclusively nuking CNJ can in fact surpass the DPS of a THM due to their abundant MP recovery options. Both these points are widely accepted at this point. Now if you believe otherwise, I invite you to show some parse results.
